DDR4 Memory Down Nearly 40% In 6 Months, Expected To Continue
Lower demand and thinner fabrication processes have resulted in falling prices for memory that include DDR4, which "cost less than DDR3 modules cost a year ago and continue to get more affordable."

There are two key reasons why computer memory is getting more affordable. Firstly, demand for DRAM is not high these days. Secondly, makers of memory chips are transiting to thinner process technologies, effectively increasing their output. Since supply exceeds demand, prices are getting lower. Sales of personal computers as well as tablets dropped this year, which decreased demand for DRAM by the industry.

Target Developing Mobile Wallet
As a Target fanboy who has really taken a liking to their mobile apps, I'll be following this with some interest, although NFC strikes me as being more practical than scanned codes.

Target does not accept any type of mobile wallet in stores, but takes Apple Pay in its mobile application. The Minneapolis-based retailer is planning to integrate its wallet into its existing mobile application and does not intend to employ the wireless near-field communication technology used by the likes of Apple Pay and Android Pay, one of the sources added. It is leaning toward using QR code technology, used by Starbucks Corp and Wal-Mart, which allows customers to scan a code at the payment terminal, the sources said.

Why Apps Really Hit iOS Before Android
Several developers have given their reasons for avoiding Android or making it less of a priority. Some are petty, but I suppose the fragmentation and revenue-based ones are understandable.

…for my target demographic and audience, the people who have iPhones are far more desirable than their peers with Android phones. When talking with teens and 20 year olds, having a big, gold iPhone 6 Plus is like carrying a Prada bag or driving a BMW. It signifies a social status, a place at the top of their social circle. You buy an iPhone because you want the best.

Hacking Group Plans To Target Steam And Minecraft Servers Over Christmas
Gaming services going down seems like a holiday tradition at this point. I guess there is always Netflix to fall back on.

While acknowledging the publicity that such attacks garner for hacking groups, he claimed that the ultimate aim is to force companies like Microsoft, Sony and Valve to do more to stop them. "We will be hitting them because we are trying to make services like them [prevent] these sort of attacks, so they get stronger," he said. "Anyone with a $5 booter can take down Xbox if they have the right IP."

Flickr Stats Suggest iPhone Is Dominating Mobile Photography
As expected, convenience is trumping quality, and while Flickr is not the sole or definitive photo service, it is populated enough to give you an idea of how popular the iPhone is for photos.

As a reflection of its strong growth, Apple has dominated the top cameras used on Flickr in 2015; different iterations of the iPhone take 8 out of the top 20 spots. The long-lived Canon 5D Mk II hangs on at 7th place and its newer sibling the 5D Mk III is at 10th. Entry-level Canon Rebel T3i is at 9th place. The first Android device, the Samsung Galaxy S4, is at 11th and the first Nikon, the D90 is at 13th place.

Comcast Customer Discovers Huge Mistake In Company's Data Cap Meter
"There was a technical error associated with his account, which we have since corrected." (But we have no idea how many other people were wrongly charged, tee hee!)

Comcast told Oleg that its system had him confused with another customer, he said. "It turns out their system had my modem MAC address entered incorrectly, there was an off-by-one typo that was hard to see so they were counting data from some modem who knows where," Oleg told Ars. Before discovering that mistake, a Comcast customer service rep had told Oleg that the company's meter is "94.6 percent accurate." After the truth was revealed, Comcast restored his three courtesy months. Oleg says he would switch broadband providers but Comcast is the only viable option where he lives.

"Star Wars" Heading For Box Office Record Of $215 Million-Plus In US
George, why did you sell Star Wars for only 4 billion?

"The Force Awakens" started screening on Thursday evening with hundreds of sellouts following months of massive marketing. Rival studios had been projecting an opening weekend above $250 million since midday Friday, but Disney has opted for a cautious outlook, asserting in the early afternoon that the seventh Star Wars movie would top $200 million and then pushing that to $215 million in the late afternoon.

Sony Battery To Offer 40% Longer Phone Life
This reportedly won't debut until at least 2020, but it's good to see that companies are continuing to make steady progress on prolonging the on-time of our devices.

High-capacity batteries provide longer run times for smartphones and other devices while taking up the same amount of space. Sony's version could power the latest Apple iPhone, the 6s, for 14 hours while the device is connected to the Internet, calculations show. Batteries could also be made 30% more compact while maintaining current run times, letting manufacturers build smaller devices.

Amazon Reportedly Building Overnight Airfreight Operation, Leasing Boeing 767s
With all the transportation news/rumors lately, I'm guessing that Amazon is really starting to move away from UPS, FedEx, and USPS to some extent.

Amazon ships most of its parcels through United Parcel Service, FedEx, and the United States Postal Service. The change to an inhouse logistics venture would seismically change the airfreight industry, as the majority of new air cargo activity around the world has come from e-commerce companies — and much of it from Amazon, in particular.

Seagate: Hard Disk Drives Set To Stay Relevant For 20 Years
Do you think Seagate's claim is out of desperation, or that hard disks will still be the most cost-effective solution in two decades?

Technologies like TDMR, HAMR or BPMR will be commercialized by manufacturers like Seagate, Western Digital and Toshiba. However, there are many companies and universities, who explore technologies for future hard disk drives. For example, reliability of HAMR-based HDDs is something addressed by the whole industry, not just by Seagate or Western Digital. Such collaborative approach and with continuing investments into fundamental magnetic recording research increases the likelihood of many technological breakthroughs going forward. The latter may guarantee that HDDs will remain relevant for a long time — for at least 15 to 20 years, according to Seagate.

ASUS Maximus VIII Impact Review
There s a review of the ASUS Maximus VIII Impact today at Hardware Canucks. For comparison purposes, you can see our evaluation here.

When it came time to test the motherboard's automatic overclocking capabilities, we were once again not disappointed. Both of the TPU-powered overclocking options are quick and simple, and the software-based 5-Way Optimization feature was more than willing to unleash all of our processor's untapped potential.

Yes, I said Quake....you know the 3D Shooter game?
