Noctua plans to improve on that, without trying out expensive solutions such as vapor-chamber plates. Called Cube-base heat pipes, Noctua's solution include heat pipes that originate at the base, shooting straight up through the central portion of the aluminium fin stack, for a more even distribution of heat. Noctua implemented the cube-base heat pipes on a variation of its popular NH-U14S heatsink, which it displayed.

Noctua U-type Compact CPU Cooler Gets an Update
Noctua gave its U-type compact CPU cooler prototype a second showing at Computex. The cooler was displayed with a pair of 65 mm fans. The design goal of the cooler is to provide tower-type ventilation (in which hot air is pushed out of the case through the rear fan vent), in a package the size of a compact top-flow one. A dense aluminium fin heatsink, to which heat drawn from a nickel-plated base, is fed by four 6 mm thick heat pipes, is ventilated side-ways, by a pair of 65 mm fans in partial push-pull configuration. The cooler, by the looks of it, should be able to handle most mainstream CPUs, even with some overclocks thrown in. There's still no word on when Noctua plans to launch it.

BitFenix Also Shows off its Aegis Micro-ATX Tower
In addition to the mini-ITX Pandora, and E-ATX Atlas, BitFenix also showed off its Aegis tower case. At 200 mm x 465 mm x 465 mm (WxDxH), it's roughly the size of an ATX mid-tower, but seats only micro-ATX and mini-ITX form-factor motherboards, much like the Phanteks Enthoo Mini XL. The case is built mostly of SECC steel and ABS plastic, with seven 3.5/2.5-inch drive bays, and a cooling system that includes three 120 mm front intakes (which can hold a 360 x 120 mm radiator), two 140 mm top exhausts (which can hold a 280 x 140 mm radiator), and one each 120 mm at the rear and bottom.

BitFenix Pandora and Atlas Pictured
Here are the first pictures of BitFenix' two new additions to its premium case lineup, the Pandora tower, and the Atlas cube. Pandora, like the Phanteks Enthoo Mini XL, is a 'case' of mistaken form-factor, in that it's designed for much smaller motherboards, but has the room to match up to a bigger one. The Pandora is designed for mini-ITX motherboards, but at 160 mm x 418 mm x 459 mm (WxDxH), is about the size of a micro-ATX tower. It lacks 5.25-inch drive bays, but has room for two each of 3.5-inch and 2.5-inch drives, a standard ATX PSU, and a ventilation system that includes two 120 mm front intakes, and two 120 mm rear exhausts. And yes, you can use them to latch on two 240 x 120 mm radiators.

The BitFenix Atlas, on the other hand, is a cubical case that's designed to compete with the likes of Corsair Carbide Air 540. It measures 383 mm x 443 mm x 541 mm (WxHxD), and is compartmentalized, much like Corsair's case. Its motherboard tray can seat E-ATX motherboards. There are no 5.25-inch drive bays, but a whopping ten 3.5-inch, and six 2.5-inch bays. Cooling system includes a staggering six 120 mm front intakes (can convert to four 140 mm), six 120 mm top exhausts (can convert to four 140 mm), a similar configuration at the bottom, and two 120 mm rear exhausts.

Phanteks Enthoo Mini XL Case Pictured
Here are the first pictures of Phanteks' attempt at an enthusiast micro-ATX case. It may be a micro-ATX case, but at 260 mm x 480 mm x 550 mm (WxDxH), it is nearly as big as an ATX mid-tower. The extra room is used not for additional expansion slots (making it an ATX case), but room for additional drives, or water-cooling components. It carries over much of its styling and utility features over from the Enthoo Prime, the full-tower that catapulted Phanteks to the top of the list of interesting case designers to look out for. Among its most notable features are dust filters for all fan intakes, intakes supporting large (>140 mm) fans, room for large 280 x 140 mm radiators, and room for as many drives as a mid-tower.

Gigabyte Unveils SuperOverclock VRM Boards for Graphics Cards
Gigabyte showed us its new range of auxiliary VRM boards for graphics cards, designed for professional overclockers. The board has to be manually soldered onto your graphics card, it supplements your card's GPU power domains. The card features a high-current power stage, which draws power from five 8-pin PCIe power connectors. The power stage is actively cooled by a fan-heatsink. While your GPU may never need that much power, it makes near darn sure that it doesn't suffer from voltage droop, which destabilizes your record-seeking OC. Such devices have been attempted by other VGA makers in the past, famously, the EPower Board by EVGA. The company also showed off its first liquid-nitrogen evaporators for GPUs.

Intel "Devil's Canyon" 9-series Chipset Exclusive?
Intel's next socket LGA1150 quad-core processors for overclockers, namely the Core i7-4790K and the Core i7-4690K, codenamed "Devil's Canyon," could be exclusive to motherboards based on the 9-series chipset. For overclockers, the choices would hence narrow down to motherboards based on the Z97 Express chipset. Marketing material distributed to retailers ahead of the processors' mid-June launch, mention "Devil's Canyon" to be supported by "new Intel 9 series chipset," while the same material detailing unlocked Pentium 20th Anniversary Edition mention it to be supported by "both Intel 8 and 9 series chipset."

Intel not mentioning that for "Devil's Canyon" is leading some to speculate that it won't be supported by motherboards running 8-series chipset, notably Z87 Express. For overclockers with expensive Z87 motherboards such as the ASUS Maximus VI Extreme, Gigabyte Z87X SOC, and MSI Z87 MPower MAX, this could spell trouble. Based on binned "Haswell Refresh" silicon, "Devil's Canyon" chips are special, in that they feature enhanced on-package electricals that can tolerate higher current; an enhanced thermal interface material between the die and the integrated heatspreader (IHS), enhanced LGA contact points, and increased voltage and thermal limits.

Intel X99 Chipset Motherboards Unlikely at Computex
Intel's next-generation HEDT (high end desktop) platform, consisting of Core i7 "Haswell-E" processors and X99 Express chipset motherboards, are unlikely to get a showing at Computex 2014, according to an OCWorkbench report, which has its feet on the ground in Taipei. What makes this development surprising, is that Intel is expected to launch the platform in the second half of 2014, and after Computex, the company won't get another major tradeshow until 2015 International CES, slated for January. What's even more surprising, is that Intel has already launched 9-series motherboards for socket LGA1150, that are designed to support its 14 nm Core "Broadwell" mainline processors. According to the report, Intel will have its motherboard partners focus on already launched Z97 Express and H97 Express motherboards, with a focus on the platform's support for M.2 and SATA-Express interfaces, that enable a new generation of faster SSDs.

It comes with a huge factory overclock, of 1019 MHz core (compared to 863 MHz reference), and GPU Boost frequencies of 1071 MHz (compared to 928 MHz reference); while the memory clock is left untouched, at 6008 MHz (GDDR5-effective). Based on the 28 nm GK110 silicon, the GeForce GTX 780 offers 2,304 CUDA cores, 192 TMUs, 48 ROPs, and a 384-bit wide memory interface.

The GeForce GTX 780 Hall of Fame 6 GB features a 10-phase VRM, which draws power from two 8-pin PCIe power connectors. It offers dual-BIOS, with the toggle switch being located at the I/O bracket, so you don't have to open the case up to flip a switch. Display outputs include two dual-link DVI, and one each of DisplayPort and HDMI. Its cooling solution features Hybrid Vapor Chamber (combination of a vapor chamber plate and direct-contact heat pipes), which conveys heat to a large aluminium fin-stack heatsink, over four nickel-plated copper heat pipes. A base-plate with heatsink fins cools the VRM and memory. The heatsink is ventilated by a pair of 90 mm fans.
