Crucial ships DDR4 for servers, desktop modules coming in August
Crucial has made several DDR4-related announcements to coincide with the Computex trade show in Taiwan. The first is that the company is now shipping DDR4 server memory designed for Haswell-EP-based Xeons. The next-gen modules run at 2133 MT/s, yielding 17 GB/s of bandwith. They're available in 4, 8, and 16GB capacities, and Crucial plans to scale up to 32, 64, and 128GB. Those higher-capacity modules won't arrive until Crucial starts using 1GB DDR4 dies, though. WWDC heralds small changes for Apple users, big ones for devs
Apple just wrapped up its yearly WWDC keynote. Jokes about Craig Federighi's hair aside, the company introduced new versions of OS X and iOS, and it announced some pretty big changes aimed at developers.
First off is OS X 10.10, which Apple has code-named Yosemite. 10.10 will feature a major user interface-overhaul with plenty of cues from iOS 7, including a new system font, abundant ...

Crucial's MX100 solid-state drive reviewed
In a lot of ways, Serial ATA SSDs have stagnated recently. Most new drives are just slightly different spins on their predecessors. We don't get big leaps in performance anymore, though. The limited bandwidth of the 6Gbps SATA interface is partly to blame, as are the ...

Dell, Acer, and Asus bring new Atom chips to the Android tablet market
Back in September of last year, Intel announced the first SoCs based on its next-gen Silvermont architecture under the Bay Trail umbrella. Intended to compete with SoCs based on designs from competitor ARM, Bay Trail parts are targeted at tablets and convertibles that have to deliver good performance in tandem with frugal power consumption. We spent some time with Windows-based Bay Trail systems last year, and we found Intel's new silicon to be a major step up over the previous generation, known as Clover Trail.
Today, Acer and Asus have announced new 7" and 8" Android tablets that feature Bay Trail. Dell has also unveiled similar ...
