AMD Kaveri APU Successor Named, Carizo Coming In 2015
Even though AMD's next-generation Kaveri APU, based on the Steamroller x86 CPU, GCN (Graphics Core Next) GPU, and HUMA memory architecture might not arrive until late in 1H of 2014, its successor is already named and being worked on by AMD. Carizo, successor to Kaveri, will arrive sometime in 2015, we are betting before the end of 1H 2015, and will feature further improvements in AMD's big APU push.
While nothing is confirmed, Carizo might most probably pack AMD's next-in-line Excavator CPU core and perhaps an improved GCN based GPU core. Memory architecture will undoubtedly feature further improvements, in line with AMD's big push for heterogeneous computing and unified memory.

AMD Kaveri APU Delayed To 1H 2014?
AMD's next generation Kaveri APUs might be delayed until early 1H 2014. The Steamroller architecture based APU is officially slated for Q4 2013, but a new report says that Kaveri based APUs are yet to achieve the mass production levels required for a full-scale launch. Of course, AMD could still launch the APUs in limited supply, with the supply eventually improving over the months, but that doesn't ever go well with consumers.
"AMD originally expected to start supplying its Heterogeneous System Architecture (HAS) Kaveri APUs in the second half of 2013, but according to the company's latest plans, the CPU maker will only provide two A10 and one A8 APU pilot production samples to its clients in December 2013, indicating that Kaveri APU-based PC products may have difficulties showing up in the retail channel before April 2014, the sources said."

(PR) Swiftech Withdraws H220 CPU Liquid Cooling Kit from US Market
Rouchon Industries Inc., d/b/a/ Swiftech today announced the withdrawal from US sales of the H220 CPU cooling kit. On June 7 2013, Rouchon Industries Inc., d/b/a/ Swiftech received a letter from Asetek' s lawyers claiming that the H220 CPU cooler infringes on their US patents 8,240,362 (the '362 patent) and 8,245,764 (the '764 patent) and to cease selling, offering for sale and importing the H220 CPU cooler in the United States. Pending final disposition of this matter, Swiftech immediately placed a hold on shipments of the H220 CPU cooling kits into the USA.
On June 27, 2013 Swiftech's counsel responded to Asetek' s attorney by a letter stating that preliminarily, Swiftech does not believe that the H220 product infringes any valid claim of the '362 and '764 patents. Nonetheless, in an effort to avoid any unnecessary litigation Swiftech also asked whether Asetek would be willing to offer a nonexclusive license for the asserted patents. On July 12, 2013 Swiftech received a response from Asetek' s law firm stating that the company does not offer licenses.

Intel Issues PCN to Improve NUC Cooling
Intel issued a product change notification (PCN), marked 112432-00, which attempts to improve the reliability of the system under heavy wireless network stress. A design flaw in Intel's reference NUC boxes equipped with wireless LAN and Thunderbolt came to light late last year, when a reviewer at TechReport discovered that when under stress, the mPCIe WLAN card can overheat, causing the neighboring mSATA SSD to malfunction. In its latest PCN, Intel included a 9.5 mm-thick flexible thermal pad on the top panel, which draws heat from the SSD, and conducts it to the chassis.

(PR) Cooler Master Releases V8 GTS CPU Cooler
Cooler Master, an industry leading chassis, thermal solution, peripheral, and accessory manufacturer today unleashes one of the most powerful Air CPU Coolers on the planet, the V8 GTS. It's powered by the very same Horizontal Vapor Chamber (HVC) Technology that keeps high-end graphics cards cool while containing the sheer raw force of a maelstrom within its huge, powerful fans.
Seemingly channeling the power of the muscle cars that inspired its design and the wind deities that grant them passage, V8 GTS is without equal. It dissipates large amounts of heat through its marriage of HVC and an optimized fin tower design. V8 GTS is built with triple tower heatsinks and eight high performance heat pipes all to channel the massive amount of heat being pulled away from the processor by the vapor chamber. Despite its menacing high performance engine outlook and large stature, V8 GTS still leaves plenty of space for memory slots.

Dell To Launch Precision M3800 Mobile Workstation With 3200 x 1800 Display
Dutch site Tweakers.net has reported that Dell is planning to introduce a new Precision series mobile workstation laptop. Dubbed the Precision M3800, this workstation on-the-go will pack a super high resolution display to the tune of 3,200 x 1,800 pixels. Phew, that's a lot of pixels, and all of them will be spread across 15.6-inches of diagonal real estate. Also in tow is a powerful Intel Core i7-4702MQ quad-core Haswell processor, 16 gigs of RAM, option between a 1 TB HDD or 512 GB SSD (hint, pick the SSD) and of course, the 15.6" 3,200 x 1,800 display (which can also be swapped with a 1080p panel... Right!)
The Dell Precision M3800 will reportedly measure just 18mm in thickness (0.7 inches) and weigh less than an average newborn, in just 2KG (about 4.4 pounds). The publication mentions that the starting price of the workstation will be $1,699, but could go up to $1,999 (you got to pay for the pixels). Of course, nothing's official. All we can do is wait for Dell to go official with the device, and hope that the specifications mentioned come true.

Motherboards with Revised Intel 8-series Chipset to Show up by September
Motherboards running C2-stepping Intel 8-series chipsets should begin surfacing on the market in September 2013, according to a DigiTimes report. The C2-stepping addresses a design flaw in the 8-series chipset's integrated USB 3.0 host controllers, which causes connected devices to improperly reinitialize after the system resumes from a sleep state such as S3 (suspend-to-RAM), forcing users to unplug and replug such devices; which can particularly be an irritant for people running USB 3.0 external RAID boxes.
The USB 3.0 erratum came to public light a bit too late for Intel to delay the June launch of its 4th generation Core "Haswell" processors platform. By the time it emerged that Intel was working on the C2-stepping, production of socket LGA1150 motherboards were already on full-swing, and at the time it was predicted that motherboards with the rectified chipsets would fill up inventory by late-Q3 or early-Q4, 2013. This update point out at September checks out.

Intel To Kill Atom Brand
Intel is planning to drop the "Atom" brand name, as it's sounding synonymous with "entry-level" or "cheap." The brand could be actually affecting popularity of Intel's "Clover Trail+" mobile SoCs, which are intended by Intel to compete with high-performance SoCs, under the Qualcomm Snapdragon and NVIDIA Tegra brands. Given how Atom makes up the slowest CPUs Intel has to offer, on the desktop and notebook platforms, its popularity in other emerging platforms could take a hit. Intel could brand Atom successors in its roadmaps to some of its more reputable brands, such as Celeron or Pentium. In the coming few years, Intel will have transitioned entry-level CPUs from its Celeron, Pentium, and even Core i3 brands to BGA (ball-grid array) packages, which could reduce their board footprint to nearly as much as today's Atom CPUs.

Cooler Master Intros Two New Silent Pro Gold PSUs For The European Market
Available until recently only in the APAC markets (Asia-Pacific region), the 450 W and 550 W version of the Silent Pro Gold series can now be purchased in most EU markets as well. The European consumers tend to prefer lower output PSUs when compared to most other mature markets, especially the NA ones, so units like these two usually sell in better volumes here than elsewhere, fact which explains Cooler Master's decision to expand its European PSU offerings with two low(er) output models.
The two units discussed here don't bring anything particularly new to the table, in fact they harbor internal electronics that are well known and widely available, being sold by numerous other vendors already. The units are underpinned by FSP's well known Aurum platform, a group regulated design that is rather average in all regards except efficiency, being an 80 Plus Gold certified product. Cooler Master discarded FSP's multi-rail setup and opted for single rail designs with the Silent Pro Gold 450 W and 550 W, the two units also make exclusive use of Japanese capacitors. MSRP for these new Silent Pro Gold PSUs is set at â¬60 for the 450 W version and â¬70 for its 550 W sibling.
