Facebook Reaches 1B Daily Users
Facebook has more than one billion daily users? Damn, that's a lot of pokes and likes.

Revenue and profits at Facebook (FB) beat Wall Street's expectations for the third quarter, as for the first time, more than 1 billion people a day on average used the massive social network. Facebook shares jumped as much as 5% in after-hours trading.

Movie Studio Can't Interrogate 'Pirates' Judge Rules
It would seem that common sense has prevailed in this case. What kind of judge would even consider allowing a plaintiff to interrogate potential defendants?

The makers of the Oscar-winning movie Dallas Buyers Club are continuing their crackdown on BitTorrent pirates. As part of this effort they have recently asked the court for permission to depose several suspects. However, the court has now denied this request, highlighting the "possibility of abuse."

The Graphics Technology of Fallout 4
There is a new post on the Bethesda website today outlining the graphics technology of Fallout 4. Pretty interesting stuff. I snagged a handful of screenshots for those of you too lazy to click the link.




As always, our world features fully dynamic time of day and weather. To create that volumetric light spilling across the scene (sometimes called "god rays") we worked with our friends at NVIDIA, who've we worked with dating back to Morrowind's cutting-edge water. The technique used here runs on the GPU and leverages hardware tessellation. It's beautiful in motion, and it adds atmospheric depth to the irradiated air of the Wasteland. Like all the other features here, we've made it work great regardless of your platform.

U.S. Office Of Personnel Management Victim Of Large Scale Data Hack
Instead of concentrating on "response to cyberattacks," our government really should be working on better defenses to prevent attacks in the first place.

The Office of Personnel Management appointed a new cyber and information technology adviser on Wednesday, part of its plan to strengthen cybersecurity after hackers compromised the personal information of 21 million federal workers. Clifton Triplett, who has advised Fortune 200 companies in a range of industries and has a military background, will help coordinate the agency's response to cyberattacks and complete its plan to mitigate future incidents.

Google Says An EU Antitrust Fine Would Be 'Inappropriate'
Imagine that, Google thinks an antitrust fine would be inappropriate. Google must not be familiar with the EU, they are the undisputed champions of laying massive fines on U.S. tech companies.

Google has hit back at EU antitrust regulators' warning of a possible hefty fine, saying this would be inappropriate because of the unusual nature of the case and its willingness to settle the case with concessions last year.

AZZA Nova 8000 Full Tower Case
If you need a large case for your next PC project, the crew at Neoseeker say the AZZA Nova 8000 would be a good candidate.

At first glance it was hard to fathom just what was inside the Nova 8000 and how to even get into all of those compartments. Once I removed the case from its packaging and was able to open it up however, everything became apparent.
