Killing Floor 2 developer says Sony is 'far easier to work with'
PC gamers are being prepared for Killing Floor 2 with its minimum and recommended requirements for your PC, where you'll need a dual-core processor from Intel or AMD to play.

As for the PlayStation 4 version of Killing Floor, the team are targeting 1080p 60FPS, with the studio explaining that they already have it running at 1080p 60FPS on the PC on a wide variety of hardware. Alan Wilson, VP of Tripwire Interactive, said: "Its a TARGET. Will we achieve it? Don't know - but we've already got the game running on a pretty broad spectrum of hardware on the PC".
As for the Xbox One version of the game, Wilson explained that Sony is far easier to work with, which is the reason why the PS4 will be getting Killing Floor 2 ahead of the Xbox One. He continued: "Oh, it most likely will. Just that Sony were far easier to work with, had been on the ball for a long time, helping us along. And Microsoft didn't. So it goes to PS4 first (and exclusively)".

Microsoft: 'Google ships a big pile of... code' for Android updates
Google provides an open ecosystem with its Android mobile operating system, but that has led to fragmentation due to multiple versions of the OS running on such a large number of different products. Android is trying to close the gap, however, it's something that rivals such as Microsoft have picked up on while criticizing the OS.

Microsoft has had a rather dismal showing in the mobile space, but hopes Windows 10 will power a growing number of smartphones and tablets. The company also didn't disclose how it will deliver its updates to Windows 10 phones as needed in the future.
For consumers looking to upgrade to Windows 10 when it becomes available later this year, Microsoft wants the effort to go as smoothly as possible. PCs and laptops will be able to upgrade to the OS first, then smartphones, with the Xbox One and other products receiving the update at a later date.

Mayweather-Pacquiao proves popular on Meerkat, Periscope
The boxing super fight between Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao may have left many boxing fans disappointed, but it proved extremely popular among Internet pirates. It wasn't difficult to find a live stream of the fight on Periscope and Meerkat, with users sharing streams directly from their TVs into the services before the opening bell.

Both Meerkat and Periscope have been used to stream Game of Thrones, live sporting events, and other high-profile subscription cable TV shows. Obviously, streaming a PPV broadcast violates the terms of service for both HBO and Showtime, and likely breaks some form of copyright law, but holding users accountable is difficult.

Report: Mobile gaming to surpass rivals, becoming $45B market by 2018
Mobile gaming is an absolutely huge business, as smartphones and tablets continue to reach new phone owners across the world. Game software revenue is expected to generate $88 billion revenue in 2015, and surpass $110 billion in 2018, according to the Digi-Capital intelligence firm.

"Where mobile games will take $3 of every $10 spent by gamers on software in 2015, that figure will go up to $4 out of every $10 by 2018," said Tim Merel, founder and managing director of Digi-Capital, in a report. "Mobile games revenue will grow from $29 billion in 2015 to $45 billion by 2018 at 15 percent annual growth."
Smaller game studios developing mobile games will have a hard time trying to keep up with established studios, and attracting new users will remain expensive.

Patriot Memory Ignite M2 480GB SATA III M.2 SSD Review
Introduction

Patriot's Ignite series SSD's are all about delivering enthusiast level performance at the lowest possible cost. Following this credo, Patriot has chosen to implement low cost asynchronous flash on their Ignite series SSD's. It's been a while since we've seen async flash based SSD's. Async SSD's such as OCZ's Petrol, and a whole host of async SandForce driven drives, are well known for their dismal performance. However, as we've seen from Patriot's 2.5" Ignite, today's 16nm Micron MLC asynchronous flash is able to crank out excellent performance when paired with the right controller.
Patriot chose Phison's S10 flash controller to power their Ignite series SSD's. We are quickly becoming big fans of Phison's S10, because of its high sequential and random 4KB performance. This rather large quad-core 8-channel flash processor dedicates one core to host operations and three of its four cores to flash management. The S10 is loaded with features such as end-to-end data path protection (ETEP), AES 256-bit encryption support, static wear-leveling, dynamic wear-leveling and special BCH error correction technology. Most importantly, the S10 is capable of delivering enthusiast grade performance.
Patriot's new M.2 SSD looks like it has potential; let's see how well it performs.

The PRO Plus and EVO Plus microSD cards also come with waterproof, temperature proof, X-ray proof and magnetic proof protection.
Samsung will offer the new microSD cards in May 2015 with SD cards to follow, further strengthening its presence in the global memory market including Korea, U.S., China, Europe and other regions.

Online Gaming to Fuel $150bn Digital Content Market by 2019, Finds Juniper Research
A new report from Juniper Research has found that the value of the global digital content market will reach $154 billion annually by 2019, an increase of nearly 60% on 2014.
The new research, Digital Content Business Models: OTT & Operator Strategies 2015-2019, observed that mobile and online games would account for the largest share of content sales (38% of cumulative revenues), with game formats continuing to transition from physical to digital. It cited the success of platforms such as Valve's Steam (which now has over 125 million active accounts worldwide) as key drivers in this evolution, while revenues from consoles/handhelds were diminishing as players migrated their gameplay to tablets and higher-end smartphones.
Strong growth is also expected to come in the Lifestyle segment, where dating services such as Match.com, eHarmony and Zoosk are seeing marked uplifts in revenues from their mobile channels.
Shift from Content Ownership to Content Access
The research also highlighted a dual paradigm shift in content monetisation models. In the first instance, pay per download now accounts for around 10% of mobile content revenues, with the bulk of revenue achieved post download. Secondly, it highlighted the transition from content ownership to content access, with consumers needing to engage with the same content across multiple devices.
As research author Dr Windsor Holden observed, 'The increased consumer desire for 24/7 access on any device leads to greater opportunities for players that can offer subscription-based, unlimited content streaming.'
Leading OTTs 'in Pole Position'
The research noted that leading OTT (Over The Top) players such as Apple, Google and Amazon were in pole position to capitalise on this transition, with each now offering cloud-based solutions both for personal storage and premium content access. It argued that if consumers are tied into multiple products from an OTT, those consumers becomes increasingly reluctant to churn away from one element of the brand, as he/she loses access to content across their devices.
The whitepaper, Digital Content ~ An Over The Top Reaction?, is available to download from the new Juniper Research website together with further details of the full research and interactive dataset.
Juniper Research provides research and analytical services to the global hi-tech communications sector, providing consultancy, analyst reports and industry commentary.
