Core i7-4790 Incrementally Faster than i7-4770K: Review
TweakTown went ahead and posted the first formal review of Intel Core i7-4790, the fastest Core "Haswell" Refresh quad-core processor. Tested on an unnamed Z97 Express motherboard, with discrete graphics, the chip was found to be only incrementally faster than the i7-4770K, and just what you'd expect from a 100 MHz clock speed bump. The i7-4790 is clocked at 3.60 GHz, with a maximum Turbo Boost speed of 4.00 GHz, compared to the 3.50 GHz and 3.90 GHz clocks of the i7-4770K. It lacks an unlocked base-clock multiplier, and so its overclocking potential is severely limited, and close to non-existent; and so the i7-4790 is really a chip for those who want the best gaming performance, and don't intend to overclock their CPUs. Enthusiasts may want to hold out for "Devil's Canyon." Find the full review at the source.

Single R9 295X2 Handles Lichdom: Battlemage at 3x Ultra HD Eyefinity
One of AMD's lead testers, Jason Megit tweeted these pictures of a gaming PC build running Lichdom: Battlemage at "super high resolution." How high? 11520 x 2160 pixels, or a 3-display Eyefinity setup using Ultra HD (3840 x 2160 pixels) monitors. You might think the system must be running three or four top of the line cards, given that Lichdom: Battlemage is driven by CryEngine 3, the same one that powers Crysis 3, from the makers of some of the most GPU-intensive games; but it isn't. The game was running on a single Radeon R9 295X2 dual-GPU graphics card. Lichdom: Battlemage is currently available as a pre-alpha, if you pre-order the game for $19.99 on Steam. From the looks of it, Lichdom: Battlemage is shaping up to be a modern-day Hexen.

(PR) Icy Dock Announces EZConvert Air MB382SP-3B Mounting Kit
Change can lead to more innovative and groundbreaking products which is the path we have taken here at Icy dock. First, we had the popular EZConvert MB882 and EZConvert Pro MB982 converter series which allowed 2.5" drives to take the 3.5" form factor in a fully enclosed device. Up until recently, our customers have been seeking a similar device with an open air design with exceptional cooling, and the EZConvert Air MB382SP-3B is our response. The EZConvert Air MB382SP-3B converts any 2.5" SATA HDD/SSDs into 3.5" Hard drives; features an extremely robust stainless-steel exterior with a cleverly designed locking mechanism to keep your drives immobile. The open air design, ventilated slots, and metal construction all work simultaneously to keep your drives as cool as possible.
With the abundance of 2.5" SSDs and hard drives combined with the steady drop in price, it's a great time to purchase more storage. Many computer cases on the market do not have built in support for 2.5" SSD/HDD which makes a 2.5" to 3.5" HDD/SSD converter an absolute necessity when purchasing 2.5" SSDs or hard drives. For enterprise, it's valuable for upgrading file servers without paying a tremendous amount for an entire system upgrade.

AMD Pulls Catalyst 14.4 WHQL, Reposts it with a Cautionary Note
Over the weekend enthusiasts couldn't find AMD's Catalyst software suite 14.4 WHQL on the company's Game portal. The company reposted it a little later, with a cautionary note about why they had to pull the download. Apparently, the AMD motherboard chipset drivers included in the suite were later found to be unstable on some systems, particularly the southbridge AHCI driver. The issue seems to affect only certain southbridges, the SB700, SB710, and SB750. There's no word on newer generations of southbridges with SATA 6 Gb/s controllers and FIS switches, such as SB850, SB950, and A-series FCH chipsets, being affected. Our SB950-based motherboard isn't showing any signs of instability. AMD rebuilt the suite without the affected driver when it re-posted the suite later on Monday.
