Foxconn workers making the iPhone 5 strike after fights and raised quality control standards
You might be waiting an extra week or three for that new iPhone 5 that you ordered. At 1PM October 5 Beijing time, Foxconn workers went on strike over new quality control standards implemented by Apple and Foxconn. It seems that Apple wanted to reduce the number of iPhone 5s coming with scratches from the factory and tightened quality standards.

foxconn_workers_making_the_iphone_5_strike_after_fights_and_raised_quality_control_standards

Unfortunately, they didn't provide any additional training to workers to meet these new standards. Workers were frustrated by the fact that they couldn't meet these new standards and started beating up quality control inspectors. These inspectors, in turn, went to their management where the managers turned their back on the issues.
This led to a strike of about 4,000 workers and quality control managers, bringing the iPhone 5 production to a halt. The watchdog group China Labor Watch has the following to say about the incident:

Quality control inspectors fell into to conflicts with workers and were beat up multiple times by workers. Factory management turned a deaf ear to complaints about these conflicts and took no corrective measures. The result of both of these circumstances was a widespread work stoppage on the factory floor among workers and inspectors.

According to workers, there was a fight between workers and quality control inspectors in area K that led to the damage in inspection room CA, the injury of some people, and the hospitalization of others. After this, another similar incident occurred in area K, once again leading to quality control inspectors getting beat up.
We'll keep you up-to-date with the latest regarding the strike and any delays in iPhone 5 production due to the strike.

Boot to Gecko device made by ZTE based on V788D Android smartphone reportedly in hands of developers
Mozilla is working on a new mobile operating system to compete with iOS, Android, and Windows Phone 8, among others. The new OS is developed using HTML5 as the basis and reportedly uses quite a bit less power than its competitors. It would appear that devices have already been distributed to developers.

boot_to_geckgo_device_made_by_zte_reportedly_based_on_v788d_android_smartphone_in_hands_of_developers

The device that has reportedly been distributed is a device based upon ZTE's V788D Android smartphone. The only change is the important part: the OS. The specifications of the device include a 3.5-inch 800x480 screen, 512MB RAM, 5 megapixel camera, and a 1.5GHz SoC. Not a high spec phone by any comparison.
However, by taking an existing phone and changing the operating system, Mozilla is able to produce a device with the new mobile operating system quickly which allows it to get into the hands of developers sooner. This allows the OS to be developed quickly so that it isn't left completely behind by iOS and Android.

Courts grants a hearing to a Megaupload user to argue for his data back
We haven't heard much about Megaupload recently. We last left the saga with Kim Dotcom's extradition hearing being pushed off all the way until March of 2013. Now, a user of the Megaupload service has been granted a hearing by the United States court regarding whether or not he should be able to access his stored data.

courts_grants_a_hearing_to_a_megaupload_user_to_argue_for_his_data

Kyle Goodwin originally filed a motion back in May with the Electronic Frontier Foundation supporting his request. In the most general of terms, his motion asked the courts to figure out a way to allow users to get back their data from the shut-down servers, arguing that many users hosted legitimate content using the service.
"The Court stated today that it will hold a hearing to find out the details about Mr. Goodwin's property - where it is, what happened when the government denied him access to it, and whether and how he can get it back," says EFF attorney Julie Samuels.
"We are glad that Mr. Goodwin will finally get to make his case in court and we look forward to helping the judge fashion a procedure to make all of Megaupload's consumers whole again by granting them access to what is legally theirs," Samuels concludes.
This ruling comes after several months of negotiations between the original parties broke down again in September. Of course, Megaupload would like their customers to receive their data back, some of which is personal pictures, homemade music, and other perfectly legal files. The US government and MPAA are against the returning of users' data.

Galaxy S III takes Best Smartphone of 2012 award at Mobile Choice Consumer Awards 2012
Samsung should be extremely happy with the results that have just come in from the 2012 Mobile Choice Awards in London. The Korean electronics giant's Galaxy S III took Best Smartphone of 2012, which is quite the flattering result. To achieve this award, it had to beat out the iPhone 4S, and HTC One X.

galaxy_s_iii_takes_best_smartphone_of_2012_award_at_mobile_choice_consumer_awards_2012

Due to the timing of the awards, some new models, such as the iPhone 5, were left out of the running. Had the iPhone 5 been in the running, the Galaxy S III might not have done as well as it did. Or, it could have had an easier time, considering all of the issues users have been having with the new device.
Also at the awards, Samsung's Galaxy Note took the Most Innovative Device award, while the Apple iPad (third generation) took first for best tablet with the Google Nexus 7 coming in second place for that award. The awards were passed around nicely, with Nokia's Lumia 800 taking Best Design and the Sony Xperia U taking Best Value.

Samsung estimates recording setting profit of $7.3b, likely due to Galaxy S III success
Samsung is a giant when it comes to electronics. Producing a wide array of electronic gadgets, toys, and tools, Samsung has been growing in popularity and quality. The latest smartphones coming out of the company are incredibly brilliant--just ask Anthony Garreffa how much he likes his Galaxy S III!

samsung_estimates_recording_setting_profit_of_7_3b_likely_due_to_galaxy_s_iii_success

Due to the smashing success of the Galaxy S III, along with its television division and other smartphone sales, Samsung is estimating record breaking profits of $7.3 billion for the third quarter. The finalized earnings report is due out on October 26, so the real number could be higher or lower than this estimate, though it shouldn't vary by too much.
The estimate places the total consolidated sales at $46.7 billion, which is a huge sum of money. Samsung has to be happy that these figures didn't come out during its trial with Apple as the damages awarded could have come in even higher than the $1 billion that the jury awarded Apple.
In other news, Samsung's brand success is also increasing like its profits. Interbrand's brands report shows that the value of Samsung's brand increased 40 percent in the last year, which puts it just behind Intel and two spots lower than McDonalds, both huge names in the United States.

Prolimatech MK-26 Video Card Cooler Review

Introduction

prolimatech_mk_26_video_card_cooler_review

Prolimatech over the years has made a name for itself with coolers like the Genesis, Samuel 17 and of course the Megahalems. Primarily cooling is what they are known for, even memory cooling, its own thermal compound, various accessories including magnetic fan mounts, and as it applies to this review, they do tend to video card cooling as well. Up to now the sole entry to this category was the MK-13 from Prolimatech, that I personally never got a chance to review, but going back now I can see where this latest offering got its name and styling.
While just looking at the MK-13 I can imagine the cooler performed very well, and after skimming a couple of reviews, I see that others were doing very well with them. As with any cooler that Prolimatech delivers, there are no fans shipped along with it. This makes for much wider results in testing, but it gives each user the ability to choose a fan or fans that suit their specific requirements. That being said, the MK-13 was and is more than capable of handling most GPU's. Rather than revise the MK-13 to fit newer video cards, Prolimatech took the idea back to the concept drawings and looked for ways to seriously improve the cooler while adding support for the latest video cards.
That plan of action leads us to where we are today with the introduction of the MK-26 from Prolimatech. The name almost makes one assume that since the number has doubled, maybe so has the performance or the size of the cooler. The answer to both of those ponderings is not quite doubled, but they have both been increased a bunch. The MK-26 as you will see soon enough does keep the basic styling, but with the new design comes advantages to the maximum thermal capabilities, the types of fans you can install, and the ability to take up some of that room afforded in the larger cases on the market, and the MK-26 is the largest GPU cooler I have ever used.
That being said I think I have your interest peeked, stick around and see just how well the MK-26 from Prolimatech does with cooling my HIS Radeon HD 7950.
