I-O Data Unveils USB 3.0 Host Card for Servers
I-O Data unveiled a new USB 3.0 host card (model: USB3-PEX2S), which is designed to be server-grade, with out of the box support for Windows Server, including USB 3.0 SuperSpeed support for Windows 2003, 2003 R2 64-bit/32-bit; Windows 2008, and 2008 R2 64-bit/32-bit. The low-profile capable card provides two USB 3.0 SuperSpeed ports, and appears to be driven by a Renesas-made chipset. It connects to the system bus over PCI-Express 2.0 x1, and draws auxiliary power from a SATA power connector. Slated for market launch in late-April, the USB3-PEX2S from I-O Data is priced at 3,885 JPY (US $48).

Gainward Readies GeForce GTX 680 Phantom 4 GB Variant
Towards the end of March, Gainward launched the GeForce GTX 680 Phantom Edition, with a its uniquely-designed cooling assembly that inverts the positions of fans and heatsink, which lends an aesthetic touch. Like most other GeForce GTX 680 graphics cards launched till date, the Gainward GTX 680 Phantom has 2 GB of GDDR5 memory. We're now learning that Gainward is working on a 4 GB variant, and it's more than close to release, as Swedish retailer Komplett.se has already listed it for 5,995 Kronor (US $878.7). Pictured below, the card looks otherwise identical to the original 2 GB model. It's likely that a backplate is used to cool memory chips on the reverse side of the PCB.

(PR) USB 3.0 Promoter Group Announces Feature Complete Ancillary USB Specifications
The USB 3.0 Promoter Group today announced that the USB Power Delivery specification and SuperSpeed USB Inter-Chip (SSIC) specification are both on track for completion by the end of Q2 2012. Both specifications are currently at a 0.9 draft completion level, essentially the equivalent of final specifications that implementers can use to start developing products. Prototyping activities to help validate the major technical elements of each specification are well underway and will be completed prior to the final release of these specifications.
The USB power delivery specification will enable increased power delivery via USB cables and connectors, expanding cable bus power capabilities in USB applications. The specification enables higher voltage and current to deliver power up to 100 Watts. It also enables a switchable source of power delivery without changing cable direction. The specification is compatible with existing cables and connectors and will coexist with the USB Battery Charging 1.2 specification and existing USB bus-powered applications.

Microsoft Ends Mainstream Support for Vista Today, End of Support for XP in 2014
Microsoft Windows Vista is out of its "mainstream support" from today. Users will continue to have free access to security updates, but those without a commercial support contract will have to pay for bug fixes or other patches. This phase between end of mainstream support and end of support is called "extended support", and for Vista, it will last till 2017. The decade-old Windows XP, on the other hand, will see Microsoft pull the plug on its support no later than in 2014.

Philips Launches LightFrame-equipped 23-inch Moda Monitor
Philips announced a new 23-inch monitor for home and small-business consumers, the Moda 248X3LFHSB. The monitor is equipped with what its makers refer to as "LightFrame", a unique bezel that emits a soft-blue light that works to reduce eye strain and improve concentration. Its base and arm are made of aluminum. Its 23.6-inch panel sports full-HD resolution.
The monitor takes input from one D-Sub and two HDMI connectors. There are other Philips-exclusives, such as SmartColor, which auto-adjusts settings to result in the best color reproduction; SmartTXT, which works to improve the legibility to text; and SmartResponse, which is basically a low response time that works to alleviate "ghosting", in fast-moving images. According to a possible leak by a Rockstar North employee, Grand Theft Auto V (GTA V), could be headed for an October 2012 launch. The employee in question, Alex O'Dwyer, a character animation developer, listed out the projects he worked on, in his CV, which included a mention of "Grand Theft Auto V", with a date of "Oct 2012". The CV has since been pulled, with no comment from O'Dwyer or Rockstar.

More GeForce GTX 690 Details Surface
We know from older reports that NVIDIA is working on GeForce GTX 690, a dual-GPU graphics card based on the 28 nm GK104 silicon, we also know that its launch will be strategically timed to follow that of AMD Radeon HD 7990. Expreview scored a few juicy details about this card. To begin with, it is reported that GeForce GTX 690 will draw power from two 8-pin PCIe power connectors.
The GeForce GTX 690 will use a PCI-Express 3.0-compliant bridge chip. Its display outputs will include three DVI and one DisplayPort. PSU with at least 650W capacity will be made a system requirement. The entire feature-set of GeForce GTX 680 will be carried over. The exact specifications, core configuration, and memory amount, remain at large.

A4Tech launched a pair of gaming peripherals in Japan, the F3-JP gaming mouse, and the X7-G800V-JP gaming keyboard. The F3-JP is a right hand-oriented palm-grip mouse with five action buttons, one macro profile switching button, and one tracking resolution adjustment button (adjusts tracking resolution between 100-3,000 DPI). The mouse has on-board memory, to store macro-profiles. Measuring 70 x 100 x 40 mm (WxDxH), the F3-JP weighs about 130 g. It is priced at 3,980 JPY (US $48.6).
The X7-G800V-JP is a gaming-grade common membrane keyboard with assured 8-key NKRO. Apart from a conventional 102-key English QWERTY layout, it features 15 macro keys, with local storage of macro-profiles. The WASD keys are distinct, with better grip. The keyboard features a spill-proof membrane. Measuring 205 x 510 x 30 mm (WxDxH), weighing about 1 kg. It is priced at 3,680 JPY (US $45).

ZOTAC Unveils ZT-Z77-U1D SuperOverclock High-End Motherboard
ZOTAC unveiled a monster LGA1155 motherboard aimed at professional overclockers, and based on the new Intel Z77 Express chipset, the ZT-Z77-U1D. Pictured below, the designers' focus was evidently on giving the motherboard a very strong VRM, apart from just enough expansion and connectivity features for 2-way multi-GPU setups. To begin with, the LGA1155 socket is powered by a 27-phase VRM, which consists of AIO ferrite-core solid-state chokes, DrMOS, tantalum capacitors, and a super-ML multiphase capacitor to condition power. The VRM is controlled by a VRD12-compliant controller.
The LGA1155 socket is wired to four DDR3 DIMM slots, supporting dual-channel DDR3-2133+ MHz memory, and two PCI-Express 3.0 x16 slots (x8/x8, when both are populated). Other expansion slots include four PCI-Express 2.0 x1, wired to the Z77 PCH. All six SATA ports from the PCH are assigned as internal ports, that's two SATA 6 Gb/s, and four SATA 3 Gb/s.
