Google: Bing Is Cheating, Copying Our Search Results
According to this article Google is claiming that Bing is copying its search results. Google has run a sting operation that it says proves Bing has been watching what people search for on Google, the sites they select from Google's results, then uses that information to improve Bing's own search listings. Bing doesn't deny this. Comments

Oracle to Pay $46M to Settle Kickbacks Charges
Ever wonder why companies do stuff like this? Hmmm, maybe it is because you can offer kickbacks to get hundreds of millions of dollars worth of contracts but only have to pay $46M when you get caught. The Department of Justice charged that Sun Microsystems Inc., which Oracle bought last year, and other technology companies paid kickbacks to Accenture PLC for Accenture to recommend that federal agencies buy Sun products. The Justice Department said last year that the lawsuit covered software contracts that ran from 1998 to 2006 and were worth hundreds of millions of dollars. Comments

Why Nielsen Ratings Suck
Even though the average person doesn't really care about Nielsen ratings, I am sure they would be surprised to know that the ad ratings are more important than the actual show itself. Read this quote from the article: To be sure, networks are interested in knowing how many people watch their programming, and freely tout or play down Nielsen's wider audience measurements. But the numbers that networks and advertisers actually use — to sell ads, to set prices, and to decide on the fate of a show — are commercial ratings. In other words, advertisers don't care how many people are watching a show nearly as much as they care how many people are watching their ads. If every Nielsen Family watched a show the day after it aired but skipped through all its ads, that show would probably be canceled. Comments

Google's Double Standard on User-Generated Content
Wait, are you telling me that Google has double standards? The company wants you to follow the rules all the while claiming the rules do not apply to it? Sounds about right. The company's AdSense team sent out a reminder to its partners today that contained a few jaw-dropping statements about Google's policies on the content produced by AdSense partners. "You are responsible for ensuring that all of your content, including user-generated content such as forum posts, blog comments or outside feeds, is in compliance with AdSense policies on any page or site for which you've enabled AdSense ads," Google declared, using a bold font just in case anybody missed the sentence. Apple Hit With Another Suit Alleging Privacy Violations
Apple has been hit with another lawsuit, this time it is over privacy violations for the way it collects and shares information from iDevice users. "Apple's privacy policy is opaque and confusing but one thing is clear: it does not inform mobile device users that by providing application developers with their UDID, Apple enables them to put a name to highly personal and in many cases embarrassing information derived from app downloading activity and usage, and internet browsing history, that would otherwise be anonymous," the suit reads. Google's Voice-to-Tweet Service
Are you stuck in a country with no internet access? Do you really need to tweet something? If you answered "yes" to that question then you are in luck...Google has just launched a new Voice-to-Tweet service! Thanks to Terry O. for the linkage. We worked with a small team of engineers from Twitter, Google and SayNow, a company we acquired last week, to make this idea a reality. It's already live and anyone can tweet by simply leaving a voicemail on one of these international phone numbers (+16504194196 or +390662207294 or +97316199855) and the service will instantly tweet the message using the hashtag #egypt. No Internet connection is required. People can listen to the messages by dialing the same phone numbers or going to twitter.com/speak2tweet. Comments

Amazon Prime Users Get Free Unlimited Movie Streaming?
Wow, imagine how many people would sign up for Amazon Prime if this turns out to be real. The original page has disappeared but, if anyone at Amazon is listening, please make this a reality. Rumors of Amazon either purchasing Netflix or launching a competing option have been circling and now one of our readers says he's seeing an unlimited video streaming section to complement the current Amazon VOD options. That's a nice bonus for the $79 / year package that currently adds a few free shipping bonuses and it would be cheaper on a yearly basis than Netflix's Watch Instantly ($95.88.) Comments
