Lexar offering easy, no-touch backup with Echo MX and ZX flash drives
For people who need data backup 'on-the-go' Lexar Media has developed two new Echo series flash drives, the MX and ZX models, which provide continuous, automatic, no-touch file backup and 128bit AES encryption.

HTC EVO Shift 4G made official, to debut next week at $150 with a contract
Sprint and HTC have finally announced the uber-rumored EVO Shift 4G and confirmed that its 4G (WiMAX) chops will be available to customers as of January 9th priced at $149.99 after a $100 mail-in rebate and with the activation of a two-year service agreement.

Hercules XPS 101 speaker system announced in the US
Hercules just announced that its XPS 101 2.1 speaker system will become available in the US later this month. The new audio offering is made up of a subwoofer packing three drives (one 6" active driver and two 6" passive pressure drivers), and two rounded satellites with a black lacquer finish.

Nvidia launches website for all things 3D Vision
Today Nvidia has taken another step in promoting its 3D technology by opening up a website, an online hub that focuses on 3D content and the 3D Vision platform. Called 3D Vision Live, the site enables users to find out more about the 3D Vision ecosystem and also view and share 3D content.

Amazon working on Kindle apps for Android and Windows tablets
Set on expanding its Kindle ecosystem to more platforms, Amazon has confirmed that it is currently developing (free) Kindle apps specifically tailored for Android tablets and Windows tablet PCs. Currently there are Kindle apps for PCs, Macs, iOS devices, Android smartphones and BlackBerry phones.

NEC's MultiSync EA231WMi IPS monitor reaches the US
Introduced in Europe last month, the MultiSync EA231WMi 23-inch monitor from NEC is now confirmed to go on sale in the US in the coming weeks for $299. The display has an LED backlight and an IPS panel, packs a carbon footprint meter and is EPEAT Gold certified.

Dell buying SecureWorks to improve its information security chops
Dell today announced the signing of an agreement which will see it buy Atlanta-based SecureWorks, a provider of Security-as-a-Service solutions which enable companies to reduce risk, improve regulatory compliance and lower costs of managing IT security.

Eye-Fi Direct Mode links up cameras with smartphones and tablets
Later this week at CES 2011 Eye-Fi will showcase a new feature coming to its Eye-Fi X2 memory cards, a little goodie called Direct Mode which allows for photos taken with a digital camera to be quickly transferred directly to a smartphone or tablet for editing, viewing or sharing.

New Marvell SATA 6.0 Gbps controller enables easy SSD/HDD hybrid setups
Marvell today introduced the wannabe storage game-changing 88SE9130 SATA 6.0 Gbps controller featuring the HyperDuo technology which allows consumer electronics and motherboards to support SSD/HDD setups that deliver SSD-like performance while storing data on a cheaper, higher-capacity HDD.

Micron ups the ante with the 25nm NAND-equipped RealSSD C400 drives

bModo12 Windows 7 tablet PC starts shipping
bModo's October-announced 11.6-inch tablet PC missed its Christmas 2010 shipping promise but still moved fast and yesterday began to find its way to customers worldwide. Those interested can purchase the bModo12 for $799/$849 (initial pricing was $699).

Lenovo announces a quartet of all-in-one PCs
Hyped up on CES juice, Lenovo today also revealed four all-in-one PCs which consumers will only get to buy in June (yes, this year), the IdeaCentre-branded A320 (21.5-inch), B520 (23-inch), B320 (21.5-inch) and the entry-level C205 (18.5-inch).

HP details Pavilion desktop updates - new CPUs, Beats Audio
HP's desktop line-up is also getting a refresh this month, with the Pavilion p6700, Slimline s5700 and Elite HPE-500 series models being announced for a January 9 release. All three models will be available with either Intel or AMD CPUs, run Windows 7 (by default) and include Beats Audio.

Samsung preps more USB 3.0 external hard drives
Samsung Electronics is currently working on three new external hard drive offerings that make use of an USB 3.0 interface, two 2.5-inch HDDs that go up to 1TB in terms of capacity, and a 3.5-inch desktop model coming in 1TB, 1.5TB and 2TB flavors.

Hitachi ships new, media-loving CinemaStar series hard drives

HP releases four more WLED monitors
Continuing its announcement schedule, HP has revealed four more Compaq-branded business monitors that feature mercury-free WLED backlighting, the 19-inch LE1901wl, 20-inch LA2006x, 21.5-inch LA2206x and 23-inch LA2306x.

HP ENVY 17, Pavilion dv6 & dv7, get their Sandy Bridge on
As expected, HP has today announced some Sandy Bridge updates, confirming that its ENVY 17 laptop and the Pavilion dv6 and dv7 notebooks will be equipped with Intel's new 32nm processors. Beside the new chips, the ENVY 17 is also set to get the CoolSense technology and Radeon HD 6850M graphics.

HP has quickly adopted AMD's first Fusion-flavored platform (aka Brazos) and built around it a new version of the Pavilion dm1 notebook which features a 11.6-inch BrightView display, the proprietary CoolSense technology, and the 1.6 GHz E-350 dual-core APU (accelerated processing units).

AMD unveils first Radeon HD 6000M series GPUs - update
Beside rolling out its 40nm APUs (accelerated processing units), AMD today also introduced the first two 40nm GPUs (graphics processing units) from the mobile-prone Radeon HD 6000M series. Known as the Radeon HD 6500M and HD 6300M, the chips have DirectX 11 support and debut two new features.

Gigabyte outs the first Fusion-equipped mini-ITX board
Gigabyte today revealed to the world the first mini-ITX motherboard powered by AMD's Brazos platform, the HTPC-ready GA-E350N-USB3. The new blue board is equipped with the Hudson-M1 chipset and is powered by the E-350 APU which has two x86 cores @ 1.6 GHz and DirectX 11 Radeon HD 6310 graphics.

AMD officially launches first Fusion-based platform
The wait was long but AMD can really say that its Fusion vision has become a reality as today is the launch of the Brazos platform, a low-power offering that makes use of the first Fusion APUs (accelerated processing units), the single-core C Series (Ontario) and the dual-core E Series (Zacate).
