NEC working on 16 Gb/s communication interface
If you think that USB 3.0 is fast then think again as NEC is currently working on a new serial communication interface that will deliver speeds of up to 16 Gb/s - three times higher than SuperSpeed USB and PCI Express 2.0. According to NEC, its research is based on the need for greater transmission speeds on a wide variety of devices, due to the appearance of high-definition TV and 3D video content.
NEC's next-gen interface makes use of binary transmission schemes, like USB and PCI Express, but it also features feed-forward type waveform equalization in order to reduce inter-bit interference and increase transfer speeds.
The Japanese company promises to continue work on the interface so we may eventually see it, or parts of it in our gadgets. 'Moar' speed is always welcomed.

LG shows off 3-Way Sync-supporting phone at MWC 2010
Spicing up its stay in Barcelona, LG Electronics is presenting at the Mobile World Congress the first phone to have support for the 3-Way Sync service which enables easy syncing between a mobile device and a PC. Dubbed LG Air Sync, the syncing technology in question lets users continually sync the data on their phones with information stored on their PCs over a wireless network, so they can always have the content they need accessible and updated.
Air Sync, which is supported by the new LG Mini (GD880), will update the phone's browser with the 100 most recent websites users visited on a PC, and uses the Personal Information Manager (PIM) Sync function to transfer contact details and daily plans from the PC to the phone. Moreover, there's the R-Click function, which sees pictures and other content transferred from the PC to the mobile phone via a simple click.
"We live in an information-oriented society with vast amounts of data and content scattered all over the place. Because of this, one of the major battles in the future mobile market is likely to be in the data management technology industry, focusing on seamless access among different devices," said Dr. Skott Ahn, President and CEO of LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company. "We have developed the LG Mini, which offers technological integration with its unique LG Air Sync service, in response to this trend."
In addition to Air Sync, the LG Mini features 3.2-inch 16:9 touchscreen, a 5.0 megapixel camera, 7.2 Mbps HSDPA support, WiFi, a built-in GPS, an FM radio, and a microSD card slot. The phone will debut in Europe next month.

AMD coming up with big Catalyst updates
Later today AMD is going to release the Catalyst 10.2, a new set of graphics drivers which will include quite a few interesting and very welcomed updates. Probably the biggest thing included in the Catalyst 10.2 is the revamped CrossFireX profile architecture which will simplify the way multi-GPU game profiles are presented and delivered.
The new CrossFireX profiles are being put into an XML file which will be separated from the driver and thus be a lot easier to update. This solution will enable AMD to provide new profiles more often via small executables which will be available for download through its game.amd.com.
Other additions to Catalyst 10.2 (and beyond) are CrossFire Eyefinity support (for all Radeon HD 5000 series CrossFireX configurations), a reworked CrossFireX code, and DisplayPort audio. Moreover, there will be support for ATI PowerPlay on Radeon HD 5900, HD 5800 and HD 5700 CrossFireX setups, this letting unused cards in a multi-GPU configurations to be powered down to a very low power state in order to lower your energy bill.
For Catalyst 10.3, which will be delivered in March, AMD is preparing 3D Stereoscopic support, Eyefinity enhancements (Display Bezel compensation and per-display color adjustments, Multiple Eyefinity groups and better display configuration switching), plus monthly updates for the ATI Mobility Radeon line of cards. Good stuff for Radeon users.
