Seagate moving its HQ from the Cayman Islands to Ireland
This week Seagate has filed a report with the US SEC (Securities and Exchange Commission), announcing its deciding to relocate its place of incorporation from the Cayman Islands to Ireland. According to the company, one of the reasons for the move is that legislative and regulatory bodies in various jurisdictions, have actively considered proposals and/or introduced legislation that could increase tax burden if it remained incorporated in the Cayman Islands.

The world's largest hard drive manufacturer has chosen Ireland as the new home for its base of operations, saying that the country presents a well-developed corporate, legal and regulatory environment with a long history of international investments as well as an extensive network of tax treaties that will help minimize tax burden in the future. Seagate has an office in Dublin and that will be registered as the very base of the publicly traded parent of the Seagate group.

Samsung plans to sell up to 270 million phones this year
The second-largest mobile phone manufacturer, Samsung, is hoping that 2010 will be a good year for growing its influence in the mobile market and especially the smartphone zone. In 2009 Samsung's phone market share was of around 20% thanks to sales of 227 million units, and in 2010, the South Korean company wants even more, its shipping targets being of 260 million to 270 million phones.

Despite its good 2009 results, Samsung has been lagging behind most of its rivals when it comes to smartphones, a segment which will continue to grow healthy in the years to come. To combat that, the company will be pushing forward its bada platform which is expected to help with the shipping of some 18 million smartphones this year - three times more than in 2009.

The first bada phone is expected in the coming months (either in March or April) so things are moving fast for Samsung. Let's just see if it can keep the pace in the recovering phone market.
