MSI's Wind Box DE200 nettop gets a makeover and new hardware
We don't know what happened to this to happen, but in the two months that have passed since we first saw it, the Wind Box DE200 has changed both on the outside and on the inside, and we're not talking small tweaks. Seen below in its new form, the nettop seems less sleek than the first iteration but is still quite compact and it no longer uses a Celeron CPU, or an Nvidia GeForce 9400 motherboard, but an Atom 230 (single-core, 1.6GHz) and a 945GC board.
The DE200 also boasts less RAM than the CeBIT version - 1GB, and has an 160GB hard drive, WiFi, Ethernet, D-Sub and HDMI outputs and one of four funky colors - black, white, blue and red. Expect more details, like the release date, next week at Computex.

Sony Ericsson's PlayNow arena getting movie downloads next month
Cash-craving joint venture Sony Ericsson has just revealed that its PlayNow arena service will get a content update next month with the introduction of movies to its media catalogue. Set to be bundled with various SE phone models, PlayNow arena with movies is a download service which will enable people to get films for their handset and watch them for as many times as they want (and can) for up to 90 days. Users will be able to have up to 15 movies at one time, and watch up to 60 movies per year.
"Consumers are increasingly looking for exciting content and premium entertainment experiences wherever they are. By adding a bundled movie proposition to PlayNow arena we continue to remove barriers for consumers to easily access entertainment through their mobile phone" said Martin Blomkvist, Head of Content Acquisition and Management at Sony Ericsson.
Unfortunately, the service won't be as straightforward as most would like as you first have do download the movies on a PC and transfer them to the phone - no over the air fun for now.
PlayNow arena with movies will be launched together with the W995 Walkman in Sweden, Norway, the Netherlands, Germany and the UK next month and will be accessible here.

Microsoft issues advisory for newfound DirectX bug
Bing bringer and all-round software maker Microsoft has posted a security advisory detailing a new vulnerability found in DirectX which is already being exploited, though on a limited scale. According to the Redmond company, the issue is in DirectX 7, 8.1 and 9, and could allow remote code execution if an 'eVIL' QuickTime media file is opened.
The testing done has shown that Windows Vista and Server 2008 are not vulnerable to the bug but pretty much everything else (Windows 2000 SP4, XP, Server 2003) is so Microsoft is currently working on providing a fix. Until that becomes available a an auto workaround has been provided and it can be used through a simple click.

Dell reports double-digit drops in revenue, profit for Q1 FY 2010
Alienware owner Dell has just provided the financial results for the first quarter of its 2010 fiscal year and as you might expect, they are nothing to brag about. In the three-month period ended May 1st Dell's revenue was of $12.3 billion, down 23% when compared to the $16 billion posted one year before, while profits reached $290 million, down a massive 63% (also on-year). According to the Texas-based company, all its units suffered double-digit drops in revenue this past quarter, with the Large Enterprise and Small and Medium Business segments going down 31% and 30% respectively.
"We're continuing to transform the company on the cost side and delivering strong cash flow," said Michael Dell, chairman and CEO. "Re-establishing cost leadership and having flexibility to invest in our business will position us well as IT spending improves. Signals about the demand environment are mixed, but we're preparing for what we believe will be a powerful replacement cycle, with virtualization and managed services playing larger roles in what customers want and Dell provides."
Dell has not provided a prediction for the current quarter but it's probably hoping for better times and thus a small rise compared to Q1.

Microsoft's Zune HD gets quick photo shoot at D7
Officially announced a few days ago, Microsoft's iPod touch-targeting Zune HD portable media player has made an appearance at the D7 conference and took the time to smile for the cameras present. Set to arrive this fall, the Zune HD packs a 3.3-inch OLED touchscreen which, as you can see below, seems pretty sharp, with the best thing about it is that it provides such vivid color while consuming less than an LCD (not to mention it's thinner).
Microsoft has also worked on updating the Zune interface to make it HD-worthy but the full scoop on it will likely be revealed later on, maybe when the player's hardware specs will be provided too. Until then we can say that the Zune HD is quite the looker. But it won't be enough to challenge the iPod.
