Gigabyte X99 Gaming G1 Pictured
Here's the first picture of Gigabyte's new socket LGA2011-3 motherboard, the X99 Gaming G1. Designed for Core i7 "Haswell-E" processors, the board is packed to the brim with features, although it's positioned in the mainline lineup. The board draws power from a combination of 24-pin ATX and 8-pin EPS power connectors, and conditions it for the CPU using a 10-phase VRM. The CPU socket is wired to eight DDR4 DIMM slots, supporting up to 64 GB of quad-channel DDR4 memory; and four PCI-Express 3.0 x16 slots, which wire out as x16/NC/x16/NC or x16/NC/x8/x8 or x8/x8/x8/x8, depending on how you populate them.
Storage connectivity includes ten SATA 6 Gb/s, one SATA-Express 10 Gb/s, and an M.2 slot. Network connectivity include 802.11 ac WLAN, Bluetooth 4.0, and gigabit Ethernet, driven by Qualcomm Killer E2200. The Sound Core3D audio solution features a user-replaceable headphone amp, audio-grade capacitors, and ground-layer isolation. A number of USB 3.0 and USB 2.0/1.1 ports make for the rest of it.

ASUS Maximus VII Impact Takes it Vertical with Five Daughterboards
ASUS mastered the art of using daughterboards to effectively increase the board area of its mini-ITX motherboards, to cram in more features, beginning with its pioneering VRM board, which added 8- to 10-phase CPU VRM. The company's latest such product builds heavily on this idea. The Maximus VII Impact, based on Intel's new Z97 Express chipset, and supporting socket LGA1150 processors, features as many as five daughterboards.
It begins with one that holds the board's mighty 8-phase CPU VRM; one called ImpactControl II, which features onboard power/reset, clear CMOS, and ROG Connect buttons, apart from POST LEDs, which show out from the rear I/O panel; one called the Impact CoolHub, which gives out two 4-pin PWM fan headers, with an LN2 mode toggle; the mPCIe Combo IV board, which features an mPCIe x1 slot on one side (which is populated with the board's 802.11 ac WLAN card), and an M.2 slot with PCIe 2.0 x4 link layer wiring on the other; and the SupremeFX Impact II, which is the audio board featuring an EMI-shielded 110 dBA SNR CODEC, audio-grade capacitors, a headphones amp, and inherent ground-layer isolation.

HIS Radeon R9 285 Smiles for the Camera
Here are the first pictures a HIS branded Radeon R9 285, the third in a series of leaked press-shots of cards based on AMD's new performance-segment GPU, designed to take on NVIDIA's bestselling GeForce GTX 760 in not just performance, but also energy-efficiency. The card is based on a new ASIC, codenamed "Tonga," which is rumored to feature a stream processor count identical to one of the variants of "Tahiti," and a 256-bit wide GDDR5 memory interface, holding 2 GB of memory. HIS' card features a compact variant of the company's IceQ X² cooling solution. Its pictures also reveal that the R9 285 "Tonga" will feature XDMA CrossFire, much like the R9 290 series.

XFX Radeon R9 285 Pictured, Too
In addition to a Sapphire-branded Radeon R9 285, pictures of an XFX branded one surfaced, too. The Radeon R9 285 is a new SKU being designed by AMD to take on the GeForce GTX 760 in not just performance, but also energy efficiency. It's rumored to be based on a brand new 28 nm silicon, codenamed "Tonga," which features GCN2 stream processor count identical to one of the variants of "Tahiti," and a 256-bit wide memory interface. The card thus features 2 GB of memory. XFX gave its card its signature Double Dissipation (DD) cooling solution.

Here are the first pictures of the card AMD hopes to take on NVIDIA's bestselling GeForce GTX 760 with, the Radeon R9 285. This particular one, branded by Sapphire, featuring its Dual-X cooling solution. The R9 285 is based on a brand new chip by AMD, codenamed "Tonga." It's rumored to feature the same stream processor count as one of the "Tahiti" variants, while featuring higher clocks, and a narrower 256-bit wide GDDR5 memory interface, a fact confirmed by this card's marketed 2 GB of memory. Given how marketing material of the R9 285 is ready, its launch may not be far away.

SMART Modular Announces DDR4 NVDIMMs with SafeStor Technology
SMART Modular Technologies, Inc., a leading designer, manufacturer and supplier of specialty memory and storage solutions, including memory modules, flash memory cards and other memory and solid state storage products, has announced today the introduction of its next generation DDR4 NVDIMMs. Offering non-volatile memory functionality while utilizing the latest DDR4 DRAM technology, this memory solution is designed to improve application performance and data integrity in server environments.
Unique to these new DDR4-2133 NVDIMMs is SMART's proprietary SafeStor technology, the engine which initiates backup and restore operations upon command from the host controller. The NVDIMM modules also support multiple command delivery options to trigger SafeStor backup during a host-detected power outage and recovery events. The SafeStor engine employs multi-channel fast NAND and high-speed switching circuitry to provide robust backup and restore capability, all while functioning as a JEDEC standard DDR4 RDIMM during normal operation. Mad Catz Reports Fiscal 2015 First Quarter Financial Results
Mad Catz Interactive, Inc. (NYSE MKT/TSX: MCZ), today announced financial results for the fiscal 2015 first quarter ended June 30, 2014. Fiscal 2015 first quarter net sales declined 10% to $16.7 million, driven by a 17% decline in net sales in both EMEA and the Americas, offset partially by a 49% increase in net sales in APAC. Gross margin for the fiscal 2015 first quarter improved to 30.2%, compared to 28.7% in the prior year quarter. Total operating expenses in the fiscal 2015 first quarter decreased 17% from the prior year period to $6.2 million.
Diluted loss per share was ($0.02) for the fiscal 2015 first quarter, compared to a diluted loss per share of ($0.03) in the prior year quarter. Net position of bank loan, less cash, of $5.3 million at June 30, 2014, compared to $4.1 million at March 31, 2014 and $8.4 million at June 30, 2013. Highlights also include shipping of the new range of Tritton Xbox One licensed headsets, the S.T.R.I.K.E.M Mobile Keyboard for iOS, Android and Windows; the Saitek X-55 RHINO H.O.T.A.S. System for Windows PC; the R.A.T.TE (Tournament Edition) Gaming Mouse for Windows PC and Mac, and the Mad Catz C.T.R.L.R Wireless Gamepad for Amazon Fire TV, PC, Mac, and Android Smart Devices.
