In Win D-Frame Mini Review
The crew at Techgage has posted a review of the In Win D-Frame Mini today. You can see our evaluation here for comparison purposes.

Computer cases come in all shapes and sizes, and In Win offers some rather unique designs. Under review here is In Win's D-Frame Mini, a elegant mix of aluminum tubing, tempered glass, and an open-air design to keep it cool to touch, as well as to look at. The Mini-ITX form factor keeps it small, but there is plenty of space for full-sized components.

Scientists Learning To Record Your Dreams & Play Them Back
Have any of you had one of those dreams that scares you awake and then, as soon as you fall back to sleep, it picks right up where you left off? These guys claim they'll be able to do that on demand.

The data that is collected can then be plugged into an algorithm that is capable of reconstructing your dream so that it can actually be played back for you when you're awake. Basically, these scientists have invented a dream reading machine; once this technology is perfected you may never have to worry about forgetting your dreams again, because you can simply play them back to yourself when you wake up in the morning. Incredible.

Poll Sponsored By Charter Says Charter Is Great
What's that old expression about having to do something yourself to get it done right? Well, it seems Charter subscribes to that line of thinking as well. The company has sponsored a poll asking the following hypothetical questions:

The survey polled over 2100 registered voters during the second week of January. Except, according to Charter's announcement, the survey doesn't exactly ask if people support the merger now, or to what degree they support the merger. Instead, it asked if certain promises would make those respondents more or less likely to support the merger.

Penthouse Not Going All Digital
Over the weekend we reported that Penthouse magazine was going all digital (here) due to internet porn but apparently that isn't the case.

Penthouse, the adult magazine founded by Bob Guccione, said Tuesday it has no plans to shut down print publishing even as plans for the website's overhaul are underway, refuting reports that the magazine's days are numbered.

Star Wars: Episode VIII Delayed By Seven Months
I felt a great disturbance in the Force, as if millions of voices suddenly cried out in terror and were suddenly silenced. I fear something terrible has happened.

You'll have to wait a bit longer to see what the heck is up with Luke Skywalker. Disney announced this afternoon that it's delaying Star Wars: Episode VIII from May 26, 2017 by seven months to December 15, 2017. Disney didn't give any reason for the delay, but sources tell The Hollywood Reporter that it'll allow the studio to give the film a Christmas release treatment, which worked pretty well for The Force Awakens.

Elon Musk, Stephen Hawking Win Luddite Award
For the record, I'm with Elon Musk and Stephen Hawking on this one. Robots (and AI) are going to KILL US ALL!!!

Still, both visionaries were identified as members of a "loose coalition" of "alarmists" who won its 2015 Luddite Award, a prize given by the Information Technology & Innovation Foundation. For good measure, Bill Gates, the man most responsible for bringing computers into our homes, was also named.

Reliability Ranks #1 As Most Important Factor In Enterprise Storage Purchasing
According to Western Digital Corporation's 2nd annual global survey of CIOs and IT decision makers, reliability trumps cost when it comes to making data-storage purchasing decisions as organizations leverage data to drive growth, profitability and shareholder value. According to the survey, reliability of data storage systems outranks cost as the most important strategic consideration for 2016, indicating how price sensitivity has given way to the importance of protecting and gleaning insight from data.

A full 85% of the respondents recognize the positive impact data can have on their bottom line, but are playing catch-up as 55% admit they are not yet storing all the data necessary for long-term business success. To address this, 74% of the IT decision makers are growing cold storage and archiving capacity, while 81% are investing in data analytics to prioritize infrastructure investments and mine internal data assets. The survey also shows that cloud infrastructure budget and build-out initiatives have increased in order to better store and access the growing trove of data.

Netflix Price Hike For Grandfathered Members Coming Soon
Just a reminder that Netflix members like myself, that still only pay $7.99 per month, are facing a price hike soon. It's only two bucks so it's not like a big deal or anything, especially since everyone else has already been paying $8.99 to $9.99 for more than a year already.

In its fourth-quarter letter to investors, Netflix NFLX, -0.68% said it will release a substantial number of those subscribers from their grandfather clause. That means they'll have a $2 increase in their subscription if they want to keep the standard service, or otherwise sign up for the lower-tiered $7.99 service that streams video in standard definition on one screen. The company didn't specify a date, but said it will happen through the second and third quarters.

GIGABYTE Z170X-UD5 LGA 1151 Motherboard Review
GIGABYTE's mid-range Z170X-UD5 has some impressive specifications, a lengthy feature set, and comes in with a sub-$200 street price. This motherboard has all the ingredients for a spectacular enthusiast option on paper. But how does it do in the real world when you put it to the test? It actually does very well.

New Zero-Day Flaw Hits Millions Of Linux Servers
All you alternative OS types out there should read this. Android users should probably pay attention too.

A new, previously undiscovered flaw that allows an attacker to escalate local user privileges to the highest "root" level is said to hit "tens of millions" of Linux PCs and servers. Because some of the code is shared, the zero-day flaw also affects more than two-thirds of all Android devices.
