Exclusive: California shooters likely planned multiple attacks - official

U.S.
investigators are increasingly convinced the California shooters
planned multiple attacks, given their stockpile of weapons, and are
looking at whether the Pakistani woman involved radicalized her American
husband, officials said on Sunday. Investigators believe the weapons
cache collected by Tashfeen Malik, 29, and her husband, Syed Rizwan
Farook, 28, points to more attacks but they do not have evidence on
other possible targets, a senior U.S. government source told Reuters.
The couple stormed a gathering of his work colleagues in San Bernardino,
California, on Wednesday, opening fire with assault-style rifles and
killing 14 people.

Obama in speech to nation vows to defeat 'new phase' of terrorist threat

By
Matt Spetalnick, Roberta Rampton and Jeff Mason WASHINGTON (Reuters) -
President Barack Obama on Sunday laid out the most sweeping defense yet
of his strategy to defeat Islamic State, but he offered no U.S. policy
shift to confront what he called a "new phase" in the terrorist threat
after a mass shooting in California. In a rare Oval Office address,
Obama sought to calm a U.S. public increasingly jittery about the fight
against Islamist militancy that once appeared to be waged overseas.
Speaking in a measured tone, Obama used his 14-minute nationally
televised appearance to draw a careful line about what he would and
would not do.

Sanders unveils climate plan to end U.S. oil, nuclear dependence

By
Timothy Gardner WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. Democratic presidential
hopeful Bernie Sanders unveiled a climate change plan on Monday that
seeks to end the country's dependence on oil, coal and nuclear energy
and could pressure party front-runner Hillary Clinton. The Vermont
senator's plan envisions 10 million new jobs in clean energy such as
wind, solar and geothermal power. It would ban oil and gas lobbyists
from working in the White House, end new fossil fuel lease sales on
public lands, and would cut carbon emissions faster in coming decades
than the goals set in President Barack Obama's clean power plan.

Republican presidential hopefuls chide Obama for terror speech

By
Ginger Gibson and Steve Holland WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Republican
presidential candidates roundly criticized President Barack Obama's
Sunday night address to the nation about the U.S. response to the threat
of terror, arguing that he lacked a vision and was not aggressive
enough. Republicans have become increasingly critical of the president's
handling of Islamic State, or ISIS, arguing that his foreign policy has
failed to address the risk from the militant group. Republicans are
also hopeful that by shifting the election discussion toward foreign
policy and national security, voters will be more inclined to support
their party.

Police call London Underground stabbing a 'terrorist incident'

By
James Davey and William James LONDON (Reuters) - A knife attacker
slashed a man at an east London metro station, reportedly screaming
"This is for Syria!", in what police described as a terrorist incident,
prompting a senior minister to urge Britons on Sunday not to be
intimidated. A pool of blood near the ticket barriers at the Leytonstone
Underground station, about six miles (10 km) east of central London,
could be seen in footage posted on Twitter that also showed the suspect
confronting police on Saturday evening. One man, thought to be 56 years
old, suffered serious but not life-threatening injuries and was in a
