Russian airliner with 224 aboard crashes in Egypt's Sinai, all killed

The Airbus A321, operated by Russian airline Kogalymavia under the brand name Metrojet, was flying from the Red Sea resort of Sharm el-Sheikh to St Petersburg in Russia when it went down in central Sinai soon after daybreak, the aviation ministry said.

Texas storms kill at least six, bring torrential rains

A day after tornadoes ripped through buildings outside San Antonio and heavy rains swelled some rivers near Austin to record levels, the National Weather Service reported an apparent twister south of Houston in Brazoria County early on Saturday that damaged 25 trailer homes near the town of Alvin. The Weather Service said it had tracked other possible twisters on Saturday in or near La Porte and Friendswood, near Houston.

A search team aboard the U.S. Naval Ship Apache using sonar equipment discovered the wreckage on Saturday in the area of El Faro's last known position at a depth of 15,000 feet (4,572 meters), the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) said in a statement.

Shooter kills three in Colorado Springs, dies in confrontation with police
Colorado Springs police responding to an emergency call tracked down the suspect and returned fire after being shot at, the El Paso County Sheriff's Office said in a statement. "It's going to take quite a few hours for us to work that," said Colorado Springs police spokeswoman Lt. Catherine Buckley.
