AMD's super-tiny R9 Nano has R9 290X performance, half the power usage
While the Radeon R9 Fury X is already one of the smallest flagship video cards ever released, the upcoming R9 Nano is going to shrink that down to a whole new level. The R9 Fury X measures in at around 19cm, but the R9 Nano is just 15nm.

Back to the benchmarks, where DGLee from IYD.KR reports that the Unigine Heaven benchmark running at 4K with the R9 Nano pushing out 26FPS. These numbers are from AMD themselves, showing off the bandwidth per stream processor. The R9 290X has 320GB/sec of memory bandwidth, with 2816 stream processors, leaving the R9 290X with 0.1136GB/sec. The R9 Nano with its 4096 stream processors and 512GB/sec bandwidth courtesy of HBM, delivers 0.1250GB/sec. When it comes to the power efficiency, the R9 Nano has 0.152 FPS/watt, while the R9 290X features 0.076 FPS/watt... a large increase in the R9 Nano's favor.
The release of the R9 Nano happens next month, where you can be sure we'll be running it through its paces here at TweakTown.

Hackers show vehicle infotainment systems are vulnerable to attack
Auto manufacturers are anxious to pack as much infotainment as they can into new vehicles, but that is opening the door to potential security risks. The NCC Group recently informed the BBC they were able to use digital audio broadcasting (DAB) radio signals to launch attacks - a tactic that could be utilized to interfere with how a vehicle's brakes operate.

Chrysler had to release a patch to resolve an issue reported by security researchers, able to demonstrate remote takeover of a vehicle - by sending data to the infotainment and navigation system. Not surprisingly, Chrysler was quick to offer a statement regarding connected vehicle security:
"[Fiat Chrysler Automobiles] has a program in place to continuously test vehicle systems to identify vulnerabilities and develop solutions," a Chrysler spokesperson told Wired. "FCA is committed to providing customers with the latest software updates to secure vehicles against any potential vulnerability."
Connected vehicle cybersecurity will remain a major topic of discussion, as more cars and trucks with infotainment systems hit the road.

Silk Road drug dealer, turned witness, given less than three years
Silk Road founder Ross Ulbricht was given two life sentences and a mix of three lesser sentences for his role in operating the underground drug website. The hammer has dropped for a different drug dealer on the Silk Road website, after a guilty plea late last year for drug conspiracy charges, leading to 2-1/2 years in prison.

Duch reportedly used Silk Road to purchase painkillers, and when his addiction spiraled out of control, began selling narcotics on the site.
The fact that Duch, who made upwards of $70,000 per month by selling drugs on Silk Road, was sentenced to less than three years shows how desperately the federal government wanted Ulbricht.

Anonymous hacker group takes aim at Islamic State sympathizers
Anonymous has posted a list of accounts suspected of aiding the Islamic State, typically by spreading propaganda and opening up dialogue with possible recruits. Some members are being spammed, while others have been suspended or removed from Twitter.

The United States has struggled against the Islamic State's massive social media campaign, with Google and other companies pledging to step up. However, trying to clamp down on 50,000 accounts sending out around 100,000 daily Islamic State-themed tweets will be no easy task.
Anonymous, which previously described the Islamic State as a "virus," has launched attacks against the extremist group's supporters before.

Apple relying on iPhone more than any other product, including Watch
Apple faces extremely high expectations during its investment calls, and despite 35 percent more iPhone sold during Q3 2015 over one year before, the company was aware revenue could drop below financial forecasts.

The launch of the Apple Watch smartwatch, which has reportedly sold millions of units, still hasn't been able to live up to such high expectations. Of course, the Apple Watch has quickly outsold rival models from Samsung, LG, Motorola, ASUS, and others - and that trend will likely continue in the future.
To help create a strong Watch ecosystem, Apple is now trying to attract developers to create third-party apps for the wearable. Many popular iPhone apps don't currently offer Watch apps, and that is something that Apple is trying to change.

Xbox chief excited about sales bump related to backward compatibility
The addition of backward compatibility for the Microsoft Xbox One likely played a part in massive Xbox One sales during the month of June. The company saw a 51 percent year-over-year bump when compared to June 2014, and there was a massive sales boost of 79 percent during E3 week.

"June was a good month and I think backwards compatibility matters," Spencer said via Twitter. "Lots of 360 owners deciding when to make the jump, big focus for us."
Meanwhile, PlayStation 4 owners shouldn't hold their breath waiting for backward compatibility support, especially as Sony criticizes Microsoft's backward compatibility claims.

Tt eSPORTS Poseidon Z Forged Mechanical Gaming Keyboard Review
Introduction, Specifications and Pricing

Some may be thinking that with seeing the original, you feel you have seen them all, but you could not be more wrong with that assumption. Unlike where many companies will rebadge a product with a new skin, different lighting options, or simply changing the switches used in the design, when it comes to Tt eSPORTS, they are always thinking and offering up new ways to do something, or adding cool new features that you may not have even thought the keyboard would need until you got the chance to play around with it and appreciate what it can offer.
This is exactly what has gone on with the keyboard we are bringing forward today. The Thermaltake eSports team sent us the latest, which is their Poseidon Z Forged mechanical gaming keyboard. Immediately, when we mention the word forged, we immediately think of metal work, and with this version, we do indeed find that there is a brushed metal top plate on this Poseidon. They also added features like new backlighting schemes, and unlike other metal top plate keyboards, this one offers a steel plate that the switches are mounted to, and is painted blue on top of that to help the LEDs to glow seemingly much brighter than what we have seen before from the Tt eSPORTS crew.
Of course, there is also a lot more going on with this design, like a huge amount of Macros, various profiles, multimedia keys, but the list is really too long to get into right now. So, if you like what you are reading so far, stick around and follow us through as we break everything down and explain everything that your money is affording you in the Poseidon Z Forged mechanical keyboard.

The keyboard is of course connected by a USB cable, but even here we find that it is braided and terminates in a gold plated connection at either end, and yes this means that the cable is detachable. We next see that this version comes with TT certified mechanical blue switches made by Kailh, but there is also a brown switch version as well that can be found in the wild, and both versions offer anti-ghosting. Of course with the GUI and Macro potential, this design does indeed include onboard memory for such things totaling out at 64KB in size.
While adjustable, we also find out that the maximum polling rate is 1000Hz or 1ms depending on your preferred way of looking at it. Back to that steel plate under the key caps, unlike other Poseidon's, this one is painted blue to match the LEDs that can illuminate it. Lastly, we see that they include a wrist rest, it offers audio jacks with its own sound card onboard, offers multimedia keys, a pair of USB 2.0 pass-through ports, and we see the 1.8 meters of length to the USB cable that connects to the PC.
While shopping around, we do find the Poseidon Z forged at most of the usual haunts. As with any Tt eSPORTS product, you can buy it direct from them at the MSRP of $139,99, but as we always do, we look around for the best deal. In that search, we located this same blue switch variant at Amazon for $119,99 with free shipping, and that seems to be the best current deal to find. The strange thing is we also found one sitting at Newegg, and while they do not show any current stock of new keyboards, we did see that they have one listed as refurbished, and that can be had for $99.99. Odd, we know, but this is what we can find currently, and even if you had to pay the MSRP of $139.99, we have no issues with its value considering all that this keyboard is capable of offering.

Microsoft Releases FY15 Q4 Results
Microsoft Corp. today announced that revenues for the quarter ended June 30, 2015 were $22.2 billion. Gross margin, operating loss, and loss per share for the quarter were $14.7 billion, $(2.1) billion, and $(0.40) per share, respectively.
These results include the impact of a $7.5 billion non-cash impairment charge related to assets associated with the acquisition of the Nokia Devices and Services (NDS) business, in addition to a restructuring charge of $780 million. There was also a charge of $160 million related to the previously announced integration and restructuring plan. Combined, these items totaled $8.4 billion or a $1.02 per share negative impact. Excluding this impact, operating income and EPS would have been $6.4 billion and $0.62, respectively. During the quarter, Microsoft returned $6.7 billion to shareholders in the form of share repurchases and dividends.
The following table reconciles these financial results reported in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles ("GAAP") to Non-GAAP financial results. Microsoft has provided this Non-GAAP financial information to aid investors in better understanding the company's performance. All growth comparisons relate to the corresponding period in the last fiscal year.
The strengthening of the U.S. dollar compared to foreign currencies had a significant impact on results in the quarter. Excluding the effect of foreign exchange rate changes on the GAAP amounts, on a constant currency basis, revenue and gross margin would have declined 2% and 3%, and operating income and EPS would have declined 129% and 176%, respectively. Excluding the effect of foreign exchange rate changes on the Non-GAAP amounts, on a constant currency basis, revenue and gross margin would have declined 2% and 3%, respectively, and operating income and EPS would have declined 1% and increased 8%, respectively.
"Our approach to investing in areas where we have differentiation and opportunity is paying off with Surface, Xbox, Bing, Office 365, Azure and Dynamics CRM Online all growing by at least double-digits," said Satya Nadella, chief executive officer at Microsoft. "And the upcoming release of Windows 10 will create new opportunities for Microsoft and our ecosystem."
"We finished the fiscal year with solid progress against our strategic priorities, through strong execution and financial discipline, which is reflected in our results for the quarter and the year," said Amy Hood, executive vice president and chief financial officer at Microsoft.
Devices and Consumer revenue declined 13% (down 10% in constant currency) to $8.7 billion, with the following business highlights:
- Windows OEM revenue decreased 22% as revenue was impacted by PC market declines following the XP end-of-support refresh cycle
- Surface revenue grew 117% to $888 million, driven by Surface Pro 3 and launch of the Surface 3
- Total Xbox revenue grew 27% based on strong growth in consoles, Xbox Live transactions and first party games
- Search advertising revenue grew 21% with Bing U.S. market share at 20.3%, up 110 basis points over the prior year
- Office 365 Consumer subscribers increased to 15.2 million, with nearly 3 million subscribers added in the quarter
- Commercial cloud revenue grew 88% (up 96% in constant currency) driven by Office 365, Azure and Dynamics CRM Online and is now on an annualized revenue run rate of over $8 billion
- Server products and services revenue grew 4% (up 9% in constant currency), with stable annuity performance offsetting declines in transactional revenue
- Dynamics revenue grew 6% (up 15% in constant currency), with the Dynamics CRM Online install base growing almost 2.5x
- Office Commercial products and services revenue declined 4% (up 1% in constant currency), with continued transition to Office 365 and lower transactional revenue due to declining business PCs following the XP end-of-support refresh cycle
- Windows volume licensing revenue declined 8% (down 4% in constant currency), driven primarily by transactional revenue declining following the XP end-of-support refresh cycle with annuity growth on a constant currency basis
For Microsoft's fiscal year 2015, the company's revenue, gross margin, operating income, and diluted EPS were $93.6 billion, $60.5 billion, $18.2 billion, and $1.48 per share, respectively. Excluding the impact of impairment, integration and restructuring charges, full year operating income and EPS would have been $28.2 billion and $2.63, respectively.
The following table reconciles these financial results reported in accordance with GAAP to Non-GAAP financial results. This Non-GAAP financial information has been provided to aid investors in better understanding the company's performance.
