ASRock shows off USB 3.1 front panel that plugs into SATA express
Computex 2015 - During Computex 2015, ASRock has shown off the world's first USB 3.1 front panel, which is designed to turn your SATA Express header into a pair of Type-A and Type-C USB 3.1 ports.

The new front panel is shipping with select ASRock 100 Series models. TweakTown will let you know when we have additional details regarding this snazzy new PC addition.

USB evolved into the most common standard for connecting peripherals to PCs, and while it has been upgraded, the addition of USB 3.1 is a game changer. USB 3.0 has speeds up to 10Gb/s, a drastic increase over the 5 Gb/s currently offered by USB 3.0 - and it absolutely blows USB 2.0 out of the water.

Basemark teams up with TUV Rheinland for performance certification
Basemark has announced a strategic partnership with TUV Rheinland which will see a new certification class for smartphones, tablets, notebooks and PCs.

Thanks to the collaboration, TUV Rheinland will secure an excellent service for product performance and evaluation at all stages of development, even at a component level like chipsets, GPUs or CPUs - right up to the final product. Basemark's suite of benchmarks like Basemark X, Basemark ES and Basemark OS allows TUV Rheinland to fine tune the devices speed, stability and overall performance.

Computex 2015 - Straight from the horse's mouth, we have been given an exclusive look into the new GIGABYTE Z170x Gaming G1 motherboard sporting some fantastic new features.

Complete with 20 phases of IR powered VRM (16+4 phases), the new Intel Thunderbolt and USB 3.1 controller as a two in one to provide USB Type-C on the back panel, an amazing new network setup and brand new metal shielding on the PCIe slots.

Report: Samsung saw booming sales for its Galaxy S6 smartphones
Samsung topped 6 million Galaxy S6 smartphone units sold in less than one month, according to the Counterpoint research group.

Furthermore, the April 10 to April 30 sales windows of the S6 and S6 Edge proved to be better than the Galaxy S5 in the same time frame in 2014 - and could surpass the overall popularity of the Apple iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus.

"The Samsung Galaxy S6 series has a chance to become the top selling smartphone overtaking Apple's iPhone 6 series, if production issues are solved," said Peter Richardson, Research Director at Counterpoint, in a statement published by Reuters.

Even though Google Android continues to dominate the mobile operating system market, Samsung's phone lead has been put under continued pressure. However, it looks like the S6 and S6 Edge could help Samsung turn things around, especially with consumers and reviewers seeming pleased with both phones.

Intel outlines shift to focus more on mobile, Internet of Things
Computex 2015 - Intel is best known for its CPUs that power servers and computers, but don't expect the company to just stop there. Intel has added to its Internet of Things Gateway, while also providing new software and OS choices for the IoT Gateway - and wants to make a bigger splash in the mobile market.

In addition, Intel is looking to embrace wearables, creating new hardware platforms that can power the next generation of wearable devices.

"The power of Moore's Law has enabled incredible computing innovation over the past 50 years and because of it, nearly everything in the future will have the ability to compute and connect," said Kirk Skaugen, SVP and GM of the Client Computing Group at Intel. "Our 30-year history of collaboration with Taiwan has delivered historic innovation to the world, from personal computing to the cloud and data centers."

This isn't a new trend for Intel - after learning about not reacting fast to the shift towards smartphones and tablets - as the company spoke about IoT during CES in January.

"The next 30 years will see even greater innovation as we deliver new computing experiences and bring intelligence and connectivity to the Internet of Things together."

Nintendo shoots down rumors, NX may not run Google Android
The Nintendo NX, a next-generation console the Japanese company is currently working on, may not run Google Android.

Despite previous rumors that Nintendo would adopt Android, company spokespeople reportedly shut down those rumors: "There is no truth to the report saying that we are planning to adopt Android for NX," according to a Nintendo spokesperson, speaking to the Wall Street Journal.

Considering Nintendo has been making gaming consoles - and various other gaming-centric offerings - since the early 1980s, it shouldn't be surprising to hear they will keep the NX's console development in-house. Despite the reports in Japanese media, it seemed a bit too hard to believe Nintendo would suddenly rely on outside help to develop an OS for the company.

The NX won't be publicly unveiled until 2016, and Nintendo hasn't released any additional information about the unit.

Netflix reportedly testing movie trailer playback before content plays
Netflix is a streaming service that requires viewers pay a monthly subscription, and has been careful to keep ads away from members. However, the company is reportedly interested in displaying movie trailers prior to streaming some programs, according to reports.

The idea of third-party ads on Netflix obviously isn't making many subscribers happy - despite it being a long rumored possibility - as the US company is increasing members, but struggling to boost its net profit.

"We are not planning to test or implement third-party advertising on the Netflix service," according to a statement published by BBC. "For some time, we've teased Netflix originals with short trailers after a member finishes watching a show. Some members in a limited test now are seeing teases before a show begins. We test hundreds of potential improvements to the service every year. Many never extend beyond that."

Following a public backlash, Netflix CEO offered this statement in a recent Facebook post: "No advertising coming on to Netflix. Period."

Joining the modding movement is GIGABYTE with some alternate PC mods
Computex 2015 - Complete with a G1 Gaming battle elephant and a GIGABYTE titan, this motherboard and video card manufacturer has joined the modding movement, adding a few alternate and awesome builds to its arsenal in Taipei, Taiwan.

The Elephant offers a Z97-XUD5H motherboard and was designed and built by Suchao Prowphong from Thailand, featuring a great yellow and black color scheme complete with a top-mounted cannon. Known for his amazing ThermalTHOR and Core X 2 Furious mods in the past, this is another fantastic rendition by the Thai modding master.

As for the Titan, we unfortunately don't have much information beside that fact it looks incredible.

Computex 2015 - The list is here and the list is long - GIGABYTE has shown off the qualified Thunderbolt device list this week in Taipei and it ranges form displays to HDD's, adapters and more.

Next to a display of a neat SLI-Windforce video card setup featuring Corsair Dominator RAM and a Plextor SSD is the list that some have been waiting for.

Including products from companies like Apple, Promise, Sonnet, Bufflom LaCie, Seagate, Western Digital, Blackmagic, Matrox, AJA, Elgate, Netstor, Sharp, CalDigit, Promise, HighPoint, LG and Dock, there is obviously quite a lot of supported devices ranging from video editing components to hard drives and displays.

GIGABYTE showcases a massive range of Intel motherboards
Computex 2015 - On display in the suite this year by GIGABYTE is what can only be described as a plethora of Intel motherboards, including Z170 Chipset, H170 Chipset and B150 Chipset models on offer.

The Z170 models begin with the GA-Z170-HR3 dual-channel DDR4 four port product with UEFI DualBIOS technology, two way PCIe support, 3 SATA-Express connectors (16 G/bs) and green GbE LAN with cFos Internet Accelerator Software. There's the GA-Z170M-D3H with four Dual-Channel DDR4 slots, a two way PCIe setup, four M.2 SATA connectors (32 G/bs), three SATA Express connectors (16 G/bs) and GbE LAN with cFos Internet Accelerator Software. Wrapping up the Z170 offerings is the GA-Z170-HD3 which includes four Dual-Channel DDR4 slots, two way PCIe support, four M.2 SATA connectors (32 G/bs), three SATA Express connectors (16 G/bs) and Audio Noise Guard technology with LED trace path lighting.

Up next is the H170 chipset, providing users with the GA-H170-HD3 supporting 6th Generation Intel Core Processors, four Dual-Channel DDR4 slots, two way PCIe connections, four M.2 SATA connections (32Gb/s) and two Sata Express ports (16G/bs). The GA-H170M-DS3H offers much the same but with different audio options and the GA-H170M-D3H offers only one PCIe video card port.

Lastly is the B150 chipset, the GA-B150M-D3h. Giving the same RAM, SATA M.2 and PCIe options as the others, there's only one SATA Express on offer and no specialty audio options.

GIGABYTE has gone for a more simplicity motherboard setup with these products, staying away from many of the fancy heat sink options as seen with ASUS.

Crucial shows off the Ballistix DDR4 16GB RAM kit
Computex 2015 - RAM and hardware company Crucial has unveiled the Ballistix DDR4 16GB performance memory kits.

Crucial manufactured the RAM so it's possible to have large-capacity modules in enthusiast machines and high-desktop systems, and not just in server systems anymore. The Crucial Ballistix DDR4 16GB RAM will be available starting in late July, with kits ranging in size from 16GB up to 128GB.

"This density of memory module will start to become broadly available in the desktop space with our new 8GB-based Ballistic DDR4 16GB modules," said Jeremy Mortenson, worldwide DRAM product marketing manager at Crucial. "We anticipate that our new modules and component densities will enable smaller form factors and the next generation of computers to have capacities that were traditionally limited to the server or high-end desktop space."

The VivoWatch by ASUS claims to be 'the pulse of life'
Computex 2015 - We haven't seen too much about smartwatches since CES Las Vegas back in January, but ASUS has been working on a new model since then - the ASUS VivoWatch.

Featuring a 128x128 resolution, low power consumption and Corning Gorilla Glass 3, the internals boast a 3-axis accelerometer, optical heart rate sensors with "ASUS VivoPulse technology," Bluetooth 4.0 and up to 10 days worth of battery life with 'normal operation' taking place - ASUS claims this beast will charge in only 1-2 hours.

Wrapping up the feature list is a water resistance rating of IP67, a standard 22mm strap size and a small 50g weight.

There is no talk about processors within just yet, stay tuned for more information.

Mini-PCs everywhere thanks to ASUS, featuring the VivoPC and Chromebox
Computex 2015 - ASUS is surely not short on mini PCs thanks to its Chromebox and VivoPC series', showcasing a myriad of options in Taipei this week.

The Chromebox CN62 comes with a choice of three Intel processors (Celeron 3205U, i3-5010U, i7-550U), 2-4GB of Dual-Channel DDR3 memory at 1600MHz, Intel GD graphics, 1000 Mbps LAN and a 16GB M.2 SSD and comes in either silver or black. Claiming to draw only 6W of power at idle, it's "more efficient than a LED light bulb" as claimed by ASUS itself.

As for the VivoPC, there is the VC65 edition with a 6th generation Intel Core processor, RAID support for up to 1TB of 2.5" SATA 3 HDDs and up to 512GB of SSD storage space, adding to this is 4-16GB of dual-channel DDR3L RAM support at 1600MHz and 1000 Mbps LAN. Contrast to this is the VivoPC WM65N/VM65 with USB 3.1 and 801.11ac Wi-Fi and different storage options.

Lastly in the PC department is the ASUS VivoMini UN45/UN45H which features "total silence" thanks to a fanless design, M.2 SSD support and an Intel Braswell Dual or Quad-Core celerom processor. Also hosting DDR3L RAM, there are options to expand the 2GB on offer up to 8GB running in Dual-Channel at 1333 or 1600MHz. This PC also has an amazing output of four USB 3.0 ports.

There's also the ASUS Vivo Dualbay, a flexible dual storage design that suits both SSD and HDD's, allowing you to swap drives between PCs as you wish.

ViewSonic LightStream PJD5255 Projector Review

Introduction

Many years ago, I had a projector setup in my lounge room, but back then even a mid-range projector cost north of $2000. I settled on a Sony projector that was capable of outputting 720p back when the Xbox 360 launched, and spent close to $5000 on a projector and pull-down screen. It was quite the setup back in the day, before LCD TVs really took off, and have now completely bottomed out in price.

ViewSonic reached out to me to see if I would like to review one of their projectors, I agreed and that's how we're here today. ViewSonic actually do a number of projectors, which range from smaller, more portable units like the one we have here today with the PJD5255, right up to professional units that pump out Full HD, or 1920x1080.

In their XGA-capable range, ViewSonic has an impressive 13 different products to handle all corners of the market. The company also splits these projectors into their respective markets: entertainment, business, LightStream, government, education, and LED.

Specifications & Availability

The ViewSonic LightStream PJD5255, as the company explains it, is a "price-performance projector features 3300 lumens, native XGA 1024x768 resolution, and intuitive, user-friendly design". The last bit is definitely true, with some very easy-to-use functionality, which we'll get into soon.

The PJD5255 features HDMI input, two VGA, composite video, S-video, one VGA output, audio in/out, mini USB and RS232. ViewSonic ensures that you'll have your device, laptop, or PC hooked up to the PJD5255 without a problem.

ViewSonic is aiming the PJD5255 projector to the education and small business environments, so this isn't a full-fledged home theater projector by any means. When it comes to price, the ViewSonic LightStream PJD5255 can be found on Amazon for $427.99 at the time of writing.

Nanoxia Announces CoolForce PC Case Series
his week it's all about Computex 2015 - and all our fans know that Computex means new Nanoxia products: We revealed our first PC-case, the Deep Silence 1, during Computex 2012. The Deep Silence 4, Deep Silence 5 and Deep Silence 6 have been introduced during Computex 2013. To keep in this tradition, on this opening day of Computex 2015, we want to introduce a complete new range of PC-Cases: The Nanoxia CoolForce Series!

The CoolForce Series will offer an outstanding price-performance ratio. Five different models will be made available, offering a variety of features at very attractive prices. As with the Deep Silence Series, we made sure that the different models will be easily recognizable as belonging to the same family.

The clean cut front panel with the green-lit Nanoxia lettering and the silver edges can be found in each of the models. As with the CF-3, three external drive bays and eight PCI expansion slots are available.

The hard drives are installed in special mounting carriages, which are designed to accommodate both 2.5 inch and 3.5 inch HDD/SSD. Hard disks and the PSU use anti-vibration mounting solutions. Shuttle Unveils Robust PCs with Built-in Broadwell Core i3, i5 and i7 Processors
Up to now, absolute noiselessness combined with compact dimensions meant sacrificing computing performance. Whenever high performance was called for, an active cooling system always had to be fitted. Shuttle now makes a difference and demonstrates that fanless computers and speed are no longer mutually exclusive.

Shuttle is adding three new models to expand its DS series in one fell swoop. The existing DS57U is now complemented in European stores by the DS57U3, DS57U5 and DS57U7 all with soldered Intel Core i3, Core i5 and Core i7 processors. The four models, all in black, are based on 14 nm Broadwell micro-architecture, featuring extremely low energy consumption and an improved graphics unit.

With ultra-slim dimensions of 20 x 3.95 x 16.5 cm (DWH), the new models offer room for up to 16 GB of energy-efficient 1.35 V DDR3L memory on two SO-DIMM sockets. One 2.5" SATA drive with 6 Gbit/s can be installed, while a mini-PCI Express slot can be fitted with an mSATA SSD. A second mini-PCI Express slot has already a WLAN module built in. The outside of the steel case sports two Gigabit Ethernet interfaces with Intel controllers, 2x USB 3.0, 4x USB 2.0, audio ports and a card reader. "Fanless PCs combined with Intel Core processors in this form will be hard to find elsewhere."

During the opening keynote address at Computex 2015, Kirk Skaugen, senior vice president and general manager of Intel's Client Computing Group encouraged the Taiwan ecosystem to work together and capture the opportunity to shape the future of computing.

• Intel introduced the expansion of the Intel IoT Gateway product family. • Intel also expanded the choice of operating systems for Intel IoT Gateway reference designs with the availability of Ubuntu Snappy Core from Canonical. This builds upon the current OS availability from Microsoft and Wind River.
• Specifically for IoT solutions, especially retail and medical environments, Intel announced the new Intel Pentium, Intel Celeron and Intel Atom processors. With stunning graphics performance in a low thermal envelope, the processors are customized for IoT and offer seven year availability.

Computing Experiences and Platform News:

• Intel Unite was introduced as a new cost-effective business solution designed for easy and intuitive collaboration and improved meeting productivity. With a select Intel Core vPro processor-based mini PC in the conference room and the Intel Unite application running on devices, existing conference rooms are modernized and transformed into smart and connected meeting spaces with enhanced security.
• In the biggest advancement since its inception, Thunderbolt 3 delivers one computer port that connects to Thunderbolt devices, every display and billions of USB devices. For the first time, a single cable now provides four times the data and twice the video bandwidth of any other cable, while also supplying power. It's unrivaled for new uses, such as 4K video, single-cable docks with charging, external graphics and built-in 10 GbE networking. Initial products are expected to start shipping before the end of this year, with more expected in 2016.
• The 5th generation Intel Core family also now includes the first LGA socketed desktop processor with integrated Iris Pro graphics, Intel's most powerful client processor graphics and media engine. Intel introduced the Intel Xeon processor E3-1200 v4 product family, the first time the Xeon processor line has included integrated Intel Iris Pro graphics P6300. Built on 14nm process technology and designed for visually intensive, cloud-based workloads such as high-definition (HD) video transcoding and remote workstation delivery, the product family delivers up to 1.4x the performance for video transcoding and up to 1.8x the 3-D graphics performance compared to the prior generation.

Jim Anderson Joins AMD to Lead Computing and Graphics Business Group
AMD today announced that Jim Anderson (43) has joined the company as senior vice president and general manager of AMD's Computing and Graphics (CG) business group, reporting to President and CEO Dr. Lisa Su. Anderson will be responsible for managing all aspects of strategy, business management, engineering, and sales for AMD's computing and graphics products and solutions.

Corsair Announces Obsidian 750D Airflow Edition Case
