ADATA SE730 Portable USB 3.1 SSD Review - Taste of USB 3.1 performance

Several motherboard vendors including ASUS, who graciously sent us a motherboard so we could test future products, and even Apple, have released products enabling USB 3.1 devices. With that said, today we take our first look at USB 3.1 with the ADATA DashDrive Elite SE730 Portable SSD.
The ADATA SE730 is part of the DashDrive Elite lineup, and while you won't find this product in store just yet, ADATA will be showing this solution off at Computex 2015 in Taipei this week. Our sample was delivered in the 512GB capacity featuring a Type C connection on the drive, while the cable offers the translation between it and the standard Type A we are used to seeing on today's solutions.
At this time, ADATA hasn't published and MSRP or warranty information for the drive.

While the ADATA SE730 wasn't able to take full advantage of the new freedom that USB 3.1 now allows, it was able to squeeze a few more MB/s out of the device. While our unit was a pre-production sample, it seemed to be built well, but of course with units like these, we don't full heartedly know what the retail sample will have internally.
Performance of the drive was top notch and even took over top honour in our charts as the quickest external SSD tested to this point. In testing, we were able to reach some rather good read and write numbers upwards of 466 MB/s read and 430 MB/s write, but out of all testing, the most impressive is the ability for these devices to now take advantage even more so than what we saw with USB 3.0 with command queuing. In our random testing this really showed up as the drive was only able to produce 27 MB/s write under USB 3.0, while moving it to USB 3.1 boosted those numbers upwards of 100 MB/s.
Overall, the ADATA SE730 is a solid solution for those wanting the very latest technology, as of this time there is no concrete data on the product, but we are sure after Computex this week, more will emerge.

CRYORIG Reveals the A Series of Hybrid Liquid Coolers, and IoT enabled PSU
At this year's Computex, CRYORIG is revealing the next generation of Hybrid Liquid Cooling (HLC) units and IoT enabled power supply units. CRYORIG's new A Series A40, A40 Ultimate and A80 Hybrid Liquid Cooling units combines the strength of both Air Cooling and Liquid Cooling in an innovative package. CRYORIG's Pi Series of Power Supply Units with IoT or Internet of Things capability, allows users to remotely control their PSU unit's through phones apps..
CRYORIG's A Series Hybrid Liquid Cooling (HLC) products is designed to solve one of the major problems with Closed Loop Cooling liquid units, which is the severe lack of airflow for the CPU's surrounding components. At Computex, CRYORIG's live thermal imaging demo shows the potential impact of how HLC can benefit the system. Heat imaging shows a drastic drop of over 10° Celsius in regions of the surrounding Voltage Regulator Modules, RAM and even the GPU card can benefit from added airflow from CRYORIG's patent pending proprietary Airflow Circulator fan. In lowering the surrounding heat of these areas, systems may achieve benefits ranging from higher stability and component lifespan, and may even achieve better stable performance and overclocks for the CPU/RAM and GPU. The Airflow Circulator fan can be removed and attached in reverse along with adjusting your CPU water block allows users to choose which way they want the Airflow Circulator to point at, be it RAM, GPU or VRM areas. The Airflow Circulator is a 3.000 RPM PWM control enabled 70 mm fan, that intelligently adjusts it's RPM based on CPU temperature. It's variable spin rate allows it to be virtually inaudible over the other working fans in the system and radiator. There are three models in CRYORIG's initial HLC lineup: the A40, A40 Ultimate and A80. CYRORIG's A Series HLC units will be available in Summer, 2015.

"As a trusted provider of flash-based solutions for three of the largest cloud service providers, SanDisk understands hyperscale application demands. We've designed CloudSpeed Eco Gen. II to deliver better cloud-scale economics with specific features so that cloud service providers can deliver superior customer experiences."
Historically, cloud service providers have relied on HDDs for data storage requirements because they offered large pools of low-cost capacity. However, as datasets continue to grow, and access to real-time information becomes paramount, cloud service providers are finding that HDD-based storage can no longer keep pace with increasing demands without significantly expanding data center footprint. As the cloud economics of flash - such as price/performance density, endurance, heat, power, cooling and footprint - continue to be a focal point for IaaS, PaaS, and SaaS decision makers, many of them have turned to SanDisk.
"We've been very pleased with the level of innovation coming out of SanDisk to jointly address the demands of new and emerging markets powered by cloud, mobility and B2B/B2C businesses," said Albert Mu, Vice President of MiTAC Computing Technology Corporation's TYAN Business Unit. "We look forward to continuing to work with SanDisk to bring these solutions to market, so our joint customers can realize the benefits of the next era in cloud computing."
"The compelling value proposition of NAND flash memory, coupled with increasing capacities is enabling wide-spread adoption of SSDs for today's emerging and demanding cloud requirements," said Jeff Janukowicz, research director for SSDs and Enabling Technologies at IDC. "More cost-effective SSD solutions based on smaller process technologies such as SanDisk CloudSpeed Eco Gen. II, make SSDs feasible for a growing number of cloud and hyperscale applications, which is helping to propel SSD unit shipments to grow at a 34 percent compound annual growth rate (CAGR) between 2013 to 2018."
As with all CloudSpeed SSDs, CloudSpeed Eco Gen. II 2TB SSD includes the company's innovative Guardian Technology Platform, which works to provide a combination of powerful error correction and detection technology, full data path protection, and data fail recovery. The CloudSpeed Eco Gen. II SSD also comes with a limited five year warranty.
CloudSpeed Eco Gen. II 2TB SSD will be available through SanDisk Original Design Manufacturers (ODMs) and select Enterprise Channel Partners later this year.

Interested in working with a start-up studio?
BearGames is looking for team members to join them in creating some really cool and exciting games. For junior developers working in a student studio is a great way to broaden your games industry network, have some fun and create content for a portfolio.
There are three team members in BearGames, the team are looking to expand to produce more work and complete their games. The team are currently working on a strategy spaceship game and have some huge plans for the future. In Particular BearGames is looking for team members with skills in: Development, Artistry/Animation and Music.
We spoke with team leader, Daniel Bartlett, 18, from Trowbridge, Wiltshire, to find out more about his journey in games, experiences so far on Train2Game, the studio and the games they are working on.
"I realised I wanted to study game design when I would be sat in class or in my room thinking of ideas for games. And when I played games I would always be thinking 'how could this game be better?'"
"Then one day searching through the internet to see how easy it was to become a games designer, I came across the Train2Game website. I liked what I saw so applied. A month later I had a phone call saying someone will be round to make sure this is what and then I started."
"Studying Games Design at Train2Game is great because I study when I want and at my own pace. But when I get to a point I get stuck on, other students help me more than the tutor team does!"
"My team is called BearGames. We are currently made up of three people: me as the Games Designer, Finance, Marketing and Leader. Macaulay Tennant as the developer who I met on the 2014 fun day on Minecraft, Fabio Rodrigues as artist and animator who I recruited from the Train2Game FB page."
"Both of them are great people and we are all great friends that can have a laugh and play games together. We are currently looking for another Developer and Artist/Animator to help on the work load and most importantly we need someone who is good at sounds and music."
"We are currently working on a command your own spaceship fleet to defeat the aliens. It will include a campaign and various multiplayer modes so you can work in a team or on your own to complete different objectives. We don't have a name for it yet but we do have most of the art work completed."
"It is a combat strategy game, players will use a different strategy for each level that you will decide from either a pre-set group or one that the you created yourself. While shooting at the aliens who's strategy will be constantly changing throughout each level."
"For the success of our game we want to build a fan base that can help us fundraise for our next bigger game. We want to work with another studio to include voice activation in our games to make them more fun and interactive for the player."
"We already have our next game planned and will be a much bigger project. Our long team goal is to become a well-known game studio that creates games we want and to make, games the community wants by using the ideas they have and putting some ideas together, then making games for You Tubers and other famous people in the games world."
"My personal dream is to become the leader of a big games studio based in the UK that creates games for the community and to give a percentage of our profits to charity."
