Australia Passes 'Pirate' Site Blocking Law
It looks like Australia is taking drastic measures to block access to pirate sites once and for all. You know, because that has always worked in the past.

A few minutes ago Australia passed controversial new legislation which allows for overseas 'pirate' sites to be blocked at the ISP level. Despite opposition from the Greens, ISPs and consumer groups, the Senate passed the bill into law with a vote of 37 in favor and 13 against. Expect The Pirate Bay to be an early target.

Netflix Announces A 7-for-1 Stock Split
Netflix's board of directors has approved a 7-for-1 stock split earlier today. The split will result in six additional shares for each outstanding share.

We've come a long way from Qwikster. Netflix's stock price has more than doubled since last December, and with prices of shares nearing $700 today it announced plans (PDF) for a 7-for-1 stock split. The price closed today at $681, and the Board of Directors approved a plan to distribute six additional shares for each one held as of the close of business on July 2nd.

Verizon Completes Its $4.4B Purchase Of AOL
Raise your hand if you think AOL is worth $4 billion. Anyone? Hello?

Time Warner spun out AOL in 2009 following a roughly $160 billion combination nine years earlier that's now considered one of the biggest deal-making blunders in US corporate history. For Verizon, the AOL deal allows it to take control of a set of online advertising tools Armstrong pulled together through acquisitions in the past few years.

Undo Send For Gmail On The Web
Google announced today that it is formally adding the "undo send" option for web based Gmail users.

'Undo Send' allows people using Gmail to cancel a sent mail if they have second thoughts immediately after sending. The feature is turned off by default for those not currently using the Labs version, and can be enabled from the General tab in Gmail settings.

The MSI R9 390X GAMING 8G is on the test bench at Vortez this afternoon. For comparison purposes, you can see our evaluation here.

Against the 290X to which the 390X supersedes, we have an extra 4GB of GDDR5, an additional 1100MHz on the memory clock and an extra 100MHz for the core clock. This graphics card is designed for high-resolution gaming with the idea being that it will be ideally suited to pair up with a 4K monitor.

Navy Paying Millions To Keep Running Windows XP
This seems like a perfectly acceptable use of taxpayer money. Seriously though, how long has the Navy been paying Microsoft to continue support for Windows XP?

The US Navy has agreed to pay Microsoft at least $9m to help secure computers running Windows XP as it did not replaced the aged OS before support ended. The deal will see Microsoft provide critical hotfixes and software patches for Windows XP, Office 2003, Exchange 2003 and Server 2003 for a maximum of three years. The navy runs a number of "legacy applications" that require Windows XP, which it is in the process of replacing.
