Air Force's mysterious X-37B will have another test flight next month
The United States Air Force's X-37B space plane will launch on United Launch Alliance's Atlas 5 rocket from Cape Canaveral on May 20, it has been confirmed. The original launch date was May 6, but a payload problem forced officials to push the launch back two weeks.

"We are excited about our fourth X-37B mission," said Randy Walden, director of the US Air Force Rapid Capabilities Office, in a statement. "With the demonstrated success of the first three missions, we're able to shift our focus from initial checkouts of the vehicle to testing of experimental payloads."
Defense contractor Boeing built both X-37B space planes, with the solar-powered craft able to launch atop a rocket, yet land horizontally using a runway. Ideally, X-37B can help provide better insight into developing reusable spacecraft that can be used by NASA, while navigation and control, guidance, and other new technologies are being tested.

Best Buy warms up to Apple Pay, even with allegiance to CurrentC
Apple CEO Tim Cook said Best Buy will begin accepting Apple Pay mobile payments later this year, including as a payment method for apps.

"We understand - and strongly support - our merchant partners' quest to do what's best for their customers," said Scott Rankin, COO at MCX, in a statement published by the New York Times. "As we have stated in [the] past, we are of the firm belief that there need to be at least 2-3 major players within the mobile payments ecosystem for it to succeed."
CVS and Rite Aid quickly removed Apple Pay from its stores, while Walmart and Sears are waiting for Current C to develop - but Best Buy could be another retailer willing to let customers choose what payment method works best.

Korean researchers create wearable thermoelectric generator tech
KAIST researchers in South Korea are working on creating a thermoelectric generator that can be used to help power wearable electronics. The team developed a glass fabric TE generator that is able to produce electricity based on heat created by the human body.
There have been organic and inorganic material TE generators manufactured in the past, while Cho's team is interested in a new concept that is able to be flexible yet not lose much thermal energy. KAIST's design utilizes a self-sustaining structure that is able to accurately trap inorganic TE materials in between upper and lower substrates.
This new type of R&D will give wearables a longer battery life, while opening the door to long-term wearables for consumers.

Konami confirms Kojima's Silent Hills video game has been terminated
Game publisher Konami has confirmed it doesn't plan on developing the Silent Hills project, as the company continues dealing with internal drama. Both Guillermo del Toro and Norman Reedus previously showed disappointment that they won't be involved in the game title any longer, as Konami tries to sort itself out.

Director Hideo Kojima is leaving the company and it looks like a power struggle is currently taking place among Konami's senior leadership. It's a shame to see that Konami and Kojima's public feud has spilled over from Metal Gear Solid 5 and has impacted Silent Hills.
However, it looks like the Silent Hill game series itself hasn't been tossed aside, so gamers do have something they can look forward to.

Scientists: 75 percent of very hot days due to global warming
A new scientific report finds three out of four extremely hot days are caused by humans and greenhouse gases - and it's an important metric considering there is more talk regarding climate change.

"This new study helps get the actual probability or odds of human influence," said Jonathan Overpeck, climate scientist at the University of Arizona, in a statement published by the AP. "This is key: If you don't like hot temperature extremes that we're getting, you now know how you can reduce the odds of such events by reducing greenhouse gas emissions."
People arguing against global warming note that extreme weather changes have happened in the past - and scientists don't dispute that fact - but say the odds are changing, and we all endure more weather extremes now.
Climate change is expected to be even worse around 2050, the likelihood of extremely hot days due to greenhouse gases will exceed 95 percent.

AOL CEO: AOL-Yahoo merger just a 'dead notion' at this point
AOL and Yahoo will not merge together despite financial industry rumors, and the former ISP giant is focusing on developing niche business units. An AOL-Yahoo merger has been rumored for years, but investors from both companies said it's not worth the trouble of bringing up a possible merger until it's seriously brought to the table.

Instead of worrying about a merger, AOL will seriously consider acquisitions that help its supply business, customer data, and video and automated ads. "You should assume we're going to do everything we possibly can to move those three things forward."
The company also is working on developing original content, after its video business increased 90 percent in 2014 alone, according to AOL.

Drones will be used by London police to monitor airports
Airports in London will use drones as part of airport security, after an 18-month study by the National Counter Terrorism Policing Headquarters discovered drones may end up being "transformative."

Even with police interested in drone flights, with the same officials responsible for complaints related to drone misuse, privacy experts are worried about this latest development.
"The technology is transformative... with the new system we will be able to carry out missions around seven times faster than ground-based activity and at around 10 percent of the cost," said George Trebess, Inspector for the National Counter Terrorism Policing Headquarters, in a statement during the Counter Terror Expo.

Apple Pay will begin supporting Discover credit cards this fall
Discover card members will be able to use the Apple Pay mobile payments service later this year, the company has confirmed. iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus and Apple Watch owners can already use Apple Pay with Visa, American Express and MasterCard.

Apple is in a continued fight to win over retailers, with credit card companies and banks already jumping on the Apple Pay bandwagon. The company will eventually see itself competing against Samsung Pay, Android Pay, and the Merchant Customer Exchange, as more companies enter the mobile payment ecosystem.
Meanwhile, it looks like security is the most important feature when it comes to mobile payments - and other emerging payment systems - according to a recent survey from 451 Research.

ESPN Radio host says he would quit if asked to cover eSports
Don't count Colin Cowherd, host of The Herd on ESPN Radio, as a fan of eSports, promising he would quit if he's ever asked to cover gaming.

It turns out, at least one ESPN employee also didn't like the coverage: "If ESPN ever forced me to cover that, or do play-by-play, I would quit," Cowherd said. "Somebody lock the basement door at mom's house, and don't let 'em out. I will quit this network if I am ever asked to cover that."
Even if eSports isn't a "real sport," there is massive interest among gamers looking to watch eSports superstars compete - but that may not be best for ESPN, apparently.

Looks like Charter wants another go at acquiring Time Warner Cable
Last week, Comcast dropped its effort to take over Time Warner Cable, as antitrust regulators and business watchdog groups showed their displeasure with the takeover attempt.

However, it looks like Charter Communications, the No. 4 largest cable company in the United States, is considering another effort to acquire TWC. Prior to Comcast's effort to purchase TWC last year for almost $159 per share, Charter offered $130 and $132 per share for TWC - which the company rejected.
TWC CEO Rob Marcus demanded $100 per share in cash along with $60 in stock from Charter, and then Comcast swooped in - and some financial analysts believe the company could try for $190 per share this time around, made up of $110 per share in cash plus $80 a share in stock.

Report: 1 out of every 5 Google Android apps are actually malware
Even though mobile malware targeting the Google Android operating system is increasing, actual infection rates are still relatively low, according to cybersecurity experts. Unfortunately, it looks like almost 1 out of every 5 Android apps were "malware in disguise," according to the newest Symantec Internet Security Threat Report.

Android, the No. 1 mobile OS based on market share, has an open infrastructure that makes it even more flexible to use by each phone manufacturer - but also gives cybercriminals the ability to create better malicious apps.
Making sure anti-malware software is an important first step, while also keeping downloads limited to the Google Play Store is important. "Google does a good job of keeping malware out of the Store," said Kevin Haley, director of security response at Symantec, published in a statement by Yahoo Tech. "And if a malicious app does make it in there, they do a good job of finding it and getting rid of it."

Damballa: Mobile malware infections overhyped in US
There might be numerous instances of mobile malware in the wild, but the matter is overhyped and not as frightening as perceived, according to advanced threat detection firm Damballa. It turns out you're more likely to be struck by lightning than suffer a mobile malware infection.

"This research shows that mobile malware in the United States is very much like Ebola - harmful, but greatly over exaggerated, and contained to a limited percentage of the population that are engaging in behavior that puts them at risk for infection," said Charles Lever, senior scientific researcher at Damballa.
"Ask yourself, 'How many of you have been infected by mobile malware? How many of you know someone infected by mobile malware?'"

AMD has surprises in store with its upcoming Radeon 300 series
Exclusive: According to our industry sources, AMD has a few surprises in store for us when it comes to the Radeon R9 390X, and the other GPUs that will arrive with the Radeon 300 series.

Something interesting that our source said, was that if HBM1 provides what it on paper should provide very easily, "NVIDIA are in trouble". Now, for what we know, there are only a few launches from NVIDIA for this year. First, the rumored GeForce GTX 980 Ti, which will be a cutdown GM200 GPU, the same found on the Titan X. Second, there's also news of NVIDIA allowing add-in board (AIB) partners to use aftermarket coolers on the Titan X, which will see a big injection of speed from Titan X cards from the likes of MSI, ASUS, and more.
The GTX 980 Ti from NVIDIA could be interesting, as it will most likely provide users with Titan X like performance, with 6GB of VRAM. According to the rumors, AMD should have either 4GB or 8GB of HBM1, and if our sources are right with the promised performance of HBM1, could NVIDIA really be in "trouble"?
AMD can't surprise and be on a smaller process, with 28nm the current slab NVIDIA and AMD have used with their latest cards. No one is ready for mass production of 14nm for GPUs, so maybe we're going to see a 28nm-based card with HBM1, and some surprising performance benefits. Mix this in with the Fiji XT and Fiji VR architectures, and a 4096-bit memory bus. If we're getting 640GB/sec+ of memory bandwidth, and some added performance from Fiji, AMD could have a real big winner on its hands.
HBM1 has bandwidth of around 640GB/sec compared to cards that are averaging 300GB/sec or so right now, with HBM2 promising up to 1.2TB/sec, or 1200GB/sec. Double what HBM1 is promising, and up to four times the memory bandwidth of the average Radeon R9 290X or GeForce GTX Titan X from today. The last time we saw HBM2 was at NVIDIA's GPU Technology Conference, with a beautiful HBM2 wafer on display by SK Hynix.

Strontium Nitro Plus 64GB OTG Pen Drive for Android Review

The Strontium Nitro Plus OTG flash drive is available in capacities ranging from 16GB all the way up to the 64GB model which we have here today. Marketing specifications depict read performance up to 120 MB/s, while write is listed at 90 MB/s. With this drive having dual purpose capabilities, we have on one end a Type A USB 3.0 connector, with the other end a micro B USB, with the drive as a whole using a swivel design we have seen on a few drives in the past.
MSRP of the Strontium Nitro Plus for Android in the 64GB capacity is set at $39.99 and features a five-year warranty.

In the past, we have seen quite a few products come through from Strontium. For the most part, they have always been some of the top performing solutions with an excellent price tag. The same can be said for this latest OTG solution as the drive carries a very low MSRP of $39.99 for a 64GB setup, certainly the lowest we have seen to date at this performance level.
Build quality is pretty solid; the metal shell that appears to be nickel plated does manage to grab every fingerprint within a ten foot range, but apart from that, we had no issues with either connector whether we were testing with our Windows, OS X or Android tablet.
Performance of the drive was quite good. We did manage to top marketing numbers for read performance both with our Windows and OS X test platforms. Write performance, however, did not live up to marketing expectations, but then again it wasn't too terribly slow as we did manage near 50 MB/s in our testing. Overall, the Strontium Nitro Plus OTG is a solid drive for those wanting OTG data storage and with several capacities to choose from there is surely a solution for all.
PRICING: You can find the Strontium Nitro Plus 64GB OTG Pen Drive for Android for sale below. The prices listed are valid at the time of writing, but can change at any time. Click the link to see the very latest pricing for the best deal.
