New Sniper Elite 3 Trailer Highlights Competitive and Co-operative Multiplayer
Whether you're a long time fan of the Sniper Elite series or you were one of the 2.2 million people who grabbed Sniper Elite V2 when it was free on Wednesday, there's a lot to be excited about in Sniper Elite 3. While it looks like the single-player campaign will provide the freedom and emergent gameplay fans have been yearning for, the multiplayer should certainly not be overlooked. Rebellion has released a new Multiplayer Trailer that shows off just some of what we can expect from its plethora of multiplayer modes. Sniper Elite 3 includes five unique modes of competitive multiplayer for up to twelve players, along with two-player online co-op support for the entire campaign and two dedicated co-op modes, Overwatch and Survival.
Sniper Elite 3 will release on June 27 for PC worldwide, but console gamers in North America will have to wait until July 1 to grab it for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360. Pre-ordering any version gets you the "Hunt the Grey Wolf" DLC mission, with the PC version getting a pre-order discount of 20%, knocking the price down to $39.99 instead of its normal $49.99. There is also a $69.99 Collector's Edition for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

What Happens when Pushing Light Past its Speed
One of the more famous consequences of the Theories of Relativity is that the speed of light is a universal constant and impossible to exceed. While the former has been proven many times over, the latter has some loopholes to it. NIST researchers decided to test the loopholes by pushing part of a light wave past the fastest speed possible.
To say that nothing can travel faster than the speed of light is actually not a completely accurate interpretation of physics. The real limit is on how fast information can move, and as it turns out there are certain properties of light waves that do not carry information. Researchers discovered two years ago that it is possible to exploit that and nudge the leading edge of a light pulse ahead of the wave, causing it to arrive nanoseconds earlier. As it does not contain information in a traditional sense, this does not violate any physical laws, but what about quantum mechanical information? This is the question the NIST researchers decided to investigate and they did so by entangling two photons, and only nudging one of them. Because the photons are entangled, their states are strongly correlated and measuring one will reveal information about the other.
When the researchers measured the photons they found that the entanglement weakened as the nudging increased the amount of noise present, which means that even quantum information obeys the speed limit. This work should prove very useful as researchers develop the systems to transfer information within the systems of quantum computers.

Fractal Design Unveils its New Kelvin Series Water Cooling System
Earlier in the week, Fractal Design announced a new addition to its Core family of cases, the x3 Series. Today, the Swedish company announced a new expandable all-in-one water cooling system, the Kelvin Series. The Kelvin Series system comes in three flavors depending on your needs: T12 (120mm radiator), S24 (240mm radiator), and S36 (360mm radiator). The system comes with both a CPU block and radiator made from pure copper, which should result in some great cooling performance. What sets the Kelvin series apart from many all-in-one solutions is that it not only contains a dedicated fill port, but also allows for easy expansion with the ability to add any additional parts to the loop just as you would with a custom water cooling solution. All the parts have fully standard G 1/4" thread fittings, so users should have no issues finding compatible parts. All modern CPU sockets are supported.
The Kelvin T12 has an MSRP of US$99.99 / €74.99 / £89.99, the Kelvin S24 has an MSRP of US$119.99 / €85.99 / £104.99, and the Kelvin S36 has an MSRP of US$139.99 / €99.99 / £119.99.

Protecting Semiconductors for Artificial Photosynthesis
For far longer than humans have existed, plants and many microbes have been using photosynthesis to convert the energy of sunlight into something more useful. We would like to do the same and create systems that release hydrogen and oxygen from water, for use as fuel. Achieving this has proven very difficult, and one reason why has to do with semiconductors corroding in water, but researchers at Caltech have found a coating that may solve that problem.
Two semiconductors used fairly often for their light absorbing properties are silicon and gallium arsenide. These properties would make them ideal for artificial photosynthesis systems, except that they will both corrode in water, and ultimately become useless. For some time researchers have been looking for ways to protect them, and now the Caltech researchers have turned to leaky titanium dioxide (TiO2). Leaky oxides were first developed in the 1990s for potential use in computer chips, but they leaked too much charge to be useful. That leaking is exactly what the researchers are going for though. The researchers found that they could put a thin layer of TiO2 onto the semiconductors, without disrupting the light coming in or the electrons going out, while still blocking the water.
This is definitely promising research but is also very early research. The leaky TiO2 layer has not been tested enough to determine how it will behave over long periods of time. The relatively short-term tests though have demonstrated the material's great potential for this application though, by setting some new records in the field.
