New Screenshots Emerge for Murdered: Soul Suspect
Last week, Square Enix announced that supernatural detective thriller Murdered: Soul Suspect will be launching June 3, 2014. While the announcement of the official release date and pre-order bonuses was certainly welcome, unfortunately it came with no new video or screenshots. Well thankfully that changed yesterday – Square Enix has published nine new Murdered screenshots for our visual enjoyment, which can be seen below.
While sadly our image uploader shrinks images down to a measly 1500x844, the images provided by the press release were a whopping 3840x2160, more commonly known as 4K Ultra HD. That certainly bodes well for the PC version!

Valve Redesigns the Steam Controller, Swapping Out the Touchscreen for Analog Buttons
Last fall, Valve unveiled SteamOS, Steam Machines, and the Steam Controller to show that PC gaming can be done from the comfort of your living room. All of those have launched in beta or prototype form, but now it seems the Steam Controller is getting a bit of a redesign. Valve has been constantly toying with the Steam Controller since it was announced, but is apparently ditching the touchscreen and four corner buttons for a more familiar style. The trackpads are still in place to mimic mouse movements, just now there are ABXY face buttons and a D-pad. A Steam button adorns the middle of the controller where the touchscreen use to be, with what looks like a Start and Pause button on either side of it. Valve says the buttons on the front are analog, but didn't offer anything more than that.
The redesigned controller will be on display at the Game Developer's Conference next week.

Images of an Amazon Game Controller Add Credence to Amazon Android Console Rumors
Rumors appeared late last month of an Amazon Android console/set-top box possibly launching this month, but so far nothing has come of that. However, we now have a bit more fuel to the fire, as images of an Amazon Bluetooth controller have surfaced. The images appeared by way of a Brazillian regulatory agency (similar to the FCC), and they depict a controller that looks quite traditional. There are media controls on the front, an Xbox-style analog and D-pad setup, and three buttons in the middle that resemble ones you see on an Android phone or tablet. There's a fourth button in the middle that is likely used with Amazon's GameCircle service for cloud saves, achievements, and online leaderboards. LED indicators are also present to display connectivity and battery life.
The controller images look rather convincing, but remember this is still a rumor until Amazon comes out and says something one way or another.

PIXYUL Unveils ReROLL's First Region, Downtown Montreal
Back in February, Montreal-based indie studio PIXYUL announced its first game, a "Crowdfunded Persistent Online Open World Survival Action RPG" called ReROLL. While the ultimate goal is to drone-source and map the entire planet, PIXYUL plans to start with just one region, which it refers to as Brick 1. Today, PIXYUL announced that Brick 1 will be Downtown Montreal, which isn't all that surprising considering the studio's location. The region is approximately 25 square kilometers, or 15 square miles.
PIXYUL has published a Brick 1 Announcement trailer, which shows off a work-in-progress render of Downtown Montreal, as well as provides a little backstory to the game:

New Abyss Odyssey Video Shows Off Possessable Enemy Judith's Combat Abilities
Last week, Zeno Clash developer ACE Team announced its next game, a side-scrolling fighting game entitled Abyss Odyssey. While the game features three warriors to initially choose from, one of the unique aspects of Abyss Odyssey is the ability to possess almost any enemy and use its own skills and combat abilities.
To provide a taste of exactly what that entails, ACE Team has published a video called "Know Your Enemy: Judith." The video shows Judith battling a dummy in a training room, controlled by game designer Carlos Bordeu. It appears that the combat resembles that of Smash Bros., where you don't necessarily have complex combat moves, but rather have moves attached to simple key combinations, such as down attack versus forward attack. Also like Smash Bros., each character has its own weight, gravity, and physics.
When it comes to combos, there is no infinite juggling – the momentum decrease for every repeated attack is fixed. Watching the video below, the best Bordeu was able to accomplish was a 10-combo, and that was while up against a wall. While infinite juggling is less of a problem against AI than in competitive multiplayer, it's still nice to know ACE has taken measures to prevent it. And who knows, maybe there will be some sort of PvP mode.
Abyss Odyssey will launch Summer 2014 for PC, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360.

Space-Based Robotic Refueling Tested
When out on a long drive, if you notice you are running low on gas, you can head to the nearest gas station and fill up your tank. When you have to refuel a satellite though, there are no stations to pull into. Researchers at NASA however are working on a robotic system that could refuel satellites in orbit, extending their lives.
Presently, when you launch a satellite it will never have more than what it launched with (though there have been some serviceable satellites). This is somewhat understandable, given the circumstances, but that hardly means we cannot try to do something about it. Under the Satellite Servicing Capabilities Office (SSCO), the Remote Robotic Oxidizer Transfer Test (RROxiTT) was launched to see if it could transfer a very damage liquid fuel into a tank, while in orbit. It utilized many new technologies, including a new propellant hose, nozzle, and transfer system. After nine days of operations, the SSCO team declared the RROxiTT mission a success.
While the potential to extend a satellite's life by refueling it is invaluable as a means to reduce space junk, it could also have implications on the ground. The oxidizer RROxiTT transferred was nitrogen tetroxide, which is very dangerous in many ways, so building a robot to work with it instead of humans is generally a good idea.

Toshiba and SanDisk Suing Hynix Over Suspected Flash Memory Technology Theft
Yesterday, "a former SanDisk engineer suspected of improperly providing technical data to Hynix," was arrested by Tokyo police. Today, Reuters is reporting that partners Toshiba and SanDisk have separately filed civil lawsuits against Hynix, seeking damages due to the suspected theft. While Hynix says it has not received the litigation yet, both Toshiba and SanDisk have confirmed the suits.
Toshiba, based in Japan, filed the suit with the Tokyo District Court. It estimates that the alleged leak resulted in "losses of at least 100 billion yen ($980 million)," but did not disclose whether that was the amount it was seeking. SanDisk, based in the United States, filed its suit in Santa Clara Superior Court, "seeking damages, an injunction and other remedies." Toshiba and SanDisk have been "partners in flash memory technology for nearly 15 years."
Back in 2004, Toshiba sued Hynix "for the breach of its flash memory patents," seeking damages and an injunction. The case was settled through a cross-licensing agreement with Hynix, so it'll be interesting to see how this plays out.
