Only A Third of Kickstarted Video Games Deliver To Backers
Only one third of the Kickstarted video game projects actually ends up in the hands of backers? That's not a very good percentage.

Let's cut to the chase: having spent a long time manually scraping Kickstarter video game project data and following up each and every of the 366 successfully funded projects between 2009 and 2012, the data indicates that only around 1 in 3 have fully delivered their promised title to their backers.

Government, Internet Companies Reach Deal On Disclosure
Google, Microsoft, Facebook, Yahoo and others have won the right to keep the public informed about how many times the feds have requested user data. Well that's mighty generous of the government.

Under the compromise announced Monday, Internet companies will be able to report the number of criminal-related orders from the government. They also will be able to release, rounded to the nearest thousand, the number of secret national security-related orders from government investigators; the number of national security-related orders from the FISA court and the number of customers those orders affected, and whether those orders were for just email addresses or covered additional information.

CEO Of Winklevoss-Backed Bitcoin Exchange Arrested
I don't always use bitcoin, but when I do...it's to buy pot brownies.

According to the charging document, Shrem, 24, chief executive officer of the exchange BitInstant.com, changed cash into bitcoins for Faiella, 52, who ran an underground bitcoin exchange through the username BTCKing on Silk Road's website. The criminal complaint says that Shrem, in addition to knowing that Faiella's business was funneling money into Silk Road, also used Silk Road himself to buy drugs, including marijuana-infused brownies.

5 Reasons To Run Windows 8 Instead Of Linux
Oh crap, here we go.

There is no denying that Linux, when well-hidden, has great value. I very quite enjoy all my Android devices as well as my Chromebook. I've been a very happy (well, except when they break down every two years) TiVo user for more than a decade. But there's a difference between using Linux like a random Ford purchaser uses a carburetor (like an embedded part) and using Linux as Linux. First off, Linux fans are crazy.

Sony Downgraded To 'Junk' Status
Sony's credit rating has been downgraded to junk status. It's been years since the company had a profitable quarter and poor TV and PC sales, gigantic box office bombs and selling millions of consoles at a loss really isn't helping Sony at all right now.

Sony's credit rating was downgraded to "junk" status by Moody's Investors Service on Monday, pushing its stock lower on the Tokyo stock exchanges and in pre-market trading stateside. Its difficulties generating profits from computers, cameras, televisions and other devices was cited by Moody's as part of its decision to drop the company's issuer rating and senior unsecured bond rating from Baa3 to Ba1.

Epic Sells Gears of War Franchise
It looks as though Microsoft has snagged the rights to the Gears of War franchise. While I'm not sure what this means for Epic, this is definitely good news for Microsoft. Who knows, maybe we'll even see CliffyB rejoin the GoW team.

"Epic Games has reached an agreement to sell the 'Gears of War' intellectual property rights to Microsoft. We're very proud of the franchise we built in close partnership with Microsoft over the past decade and are happy that this agreement enables Microsoft to forge ahead with the 'Gears' universe on their industry-leading platforms as Epic concentrates its efforts on new projects," said Epic founder and CEO Tim Sweeney. "Epic remains totally dedicated to supporting Xbox One and is licensing the Unreal Engine 4 technology to Microsoft in support of their future projects."
