300-PPI Sharp tablet has Bay Trail inside, waterproofing outside
Sharp's IGZO display panels have already worked their way into high-PPI notebook screens and 4K desktop monitors. Now, one has popped up in a Windows tablet of the company's own design. The Mebius Pad squeezes a 2560x1600 display resolution—the same pixel layout typical of 30" monitors—into a panel measuring just 10.1" across. The resulting pixel density works out to 300 PPI, matching Google's Nexus 10 tablet.

Rumor: Nvidia may cut prices, release new cards in November
Last week, AMD unveiled a whole lineup of new graphics cards: the R7 and R9 series, which will populate price points from under $89 to $299 and above.

GeForce 331.40 drivers improve ambient occlusion, support BF4 beta
Less than two weeks after Nvidia released its last batch of graphics drivers, a new crop is ready to harvest. This latest 331.40 release carries a beta moniker, so it lacks the WHQL certification of the previous 327.32 drivers. The beta status is fitting, though; Nvidia says this release ensures "maximum performance and system stability" in the Battlefield 4 beta, which begins tomorrow.
The new drivers have a few other tricks up their sleeve, including support for a new ambient occlusion technique called HBAO+. This DirectX 11-based approach is supposed to offer better image quality than Nvidia's old ...

Saturday was a windy, rainy day in Vancouver. But as the afternoon ended, the dark rainclouds parted, and the sun began to shine through. In front of the Kingston Taphouse & Grille in downtown Vancouver, Canada, a group of TR readers from all corners of the Pacific Northwest began to gather.
