Buffalo Also Readies a Portable, USB 3.0 Hard Drive
Buffalo has this week announced a new addition to its storage offer, the Mini Station Turbo PC EX2 portable hard drive. Seen below, the HDD is 115 by 76 mm (thickness differs by capacity - 11.5 mm for 500 GB, 14 mm for 1 TB and 19.5 mm for 2 TB), it has USB 3.0 connectivity, it comes in two color versions - black and white, and includes a power saving mode that lowers standby consumption to just 0.95 W, and a transfer mode that will compress data on the drive, so as to fit in more content.
The Mini Station Turbo PC EX2 is backed by a one-year warranty and is set to ship early next month, priced at 9,975 yen (~ 100 USD) for the 500 GB drive, 13,860 yen (~ 139 USD) for the 1 TB model, and 27,720 yen (~ 279 USD) for the 2 TB unit.

Buffalo Unveils New External DVD Writer
Early next month Buffalo is planning to release a new external optical drive, a DVD writer called DVSM-PTS58U3. Coming in three color versions - black, silver and white, the drive measures 138 x 152 x 14.44 mm, it weighs 220 grams, and is capable of burn speeds of 8x for DVD-R/+R/+RW, 6x for DVD-R(DL)/+R(DL)/-RW, 5x for DVD-RAM, and 24x for CD-R/-RW.
The DVSM-PTS58U3 also features two attached USB cables, a USB 3.0-supporting cable for data transfer and power, and a USB 2.0 'Boost' cable to provide extra power when needed (there's a notification light that will turn red, signaling the user to plug in the Boost cable). NVIDIA rolled out the latest GeForce 327.23 WHQL software, which adds drivers and related system software for NVIDIA GeForce graphics cards. Version 327.23 WHQL comes with logo-certification for Windows 8.1. Its changelog over GeForce 326.80 is tiny, including a bug-fix for PhysX default device selection, and an issue with 3D Vision viewer, but sizable, compared to GeForce 320.49. It improves game-specific performance for a a handful games (compared to GeForce 320.49), including Up to 15% in Dirt: Showdown on GTX 770, up to 19% in Dirt: Showdown on GTX 770 SLI, up to 11% in F1 2012 on GTX 770 SLI, and up to 6% in Tomb Raider, and up to 6% in Tomb Raider on GTX 770. Dell moved ahead of Samsung in the worldwide PC monitor market for the first time since 2007, shipping more than 5.0 million units in the second quarter of 2013 (2Q13). Total PC monitor shipments for the quarter were 33.5 million units, which was 1.6 million units more than forecast but still represented a year-over-year decline of -0.7%, according to the International Data Corporation (IDC) Worldwide Quarterly PC Monitor Tracker.
"Dell grew its unit shipments by 12.7% compared to the first quarter of 2013, which vaulted the company into the number one position worldwide. However, Samsung continues to be the worldwide revenue leader, despite its declining shipment numbers," said Jennifer Song, Research Analyst, Worldwide Trackers at IDC. "On a geographic basis, China remained the largest market for PC monitors with 29.2% share, followed by the U.S. with 18.4% share. The number three market, Brazil, trailed by some distance with 4.3% share."
