Leaked specs, photos reveal 8'' Acer Windows 8 tablet
Last week, Microsoft CFO Peter Klein confirmed the impending arrival of mini Windows tablets. Few specifics have been made public, but thanks to French site MiniMachines.net, we now have some idea of what to expect. Earlier today, the site posted a boatload of photos of an upcoming 8" Windows tablet from Acer—and some specs, too. The article seems to have been taken down, but it's still available here in Bing's cache.
According to the cached page, this 8" tablet will be known as the Acer Iconia W3, and it will feature an Atom Z2760 processor, 2GB of RAM, dual cameras, and an optional foldable sleeve that can prop up the machine in landscape mode. Acer ...

Report: Intel wants batteries in all-in-one PCs
With the demand for traditional towers dwindling, a lot of the action in the desktop PC industry seems to be focused on all-in-one systems similar to Apple's iMacs. Intel is a big proponent of this class of machine, and it's encouraging development with a Thin Mini-ITX platform that allows AiOs to be built with off-the-shelf components. Now, it appears that Intel may also be pushing a different sort of all-in-one system. DigiTimes' sources in the supply channel say the chip maker is promoting AiO/tablet hybrids.
These so-called "adaptive all-in-one PCs" would be similar to existing AiOs but include internal batteries that allow for untethered operation. Reportedly, Intel is suggesting large 18-27" touchscreen sizes to enable multiple users to interact ...

Raja Koduri returns to lead AMD's Visual Computing group
Rory Read and his new management team pretty much cleaned house after taking over at AMD. We've seen a striking number of big names and familiar faces leave the company in the past year and a half. More recently, though, the firm has been hiring new leadership to help complete its hoped-for corporate turnaround. The latest addition to AMD's revamped leadership bench is something of a homecoming: Raja Koduri is back.
Koduri worked at ATI prior to the merger with AMD, and he then rose to become the CTO of the Graphics Product Group at the combined company. Koduri has made a number of noteworthy contributions to real-time graphics over the years. While at S3, he invented the texture compression method that became the DXTC, or DirectX texture compression, standard. At ATI, he was involved in the skunkworks project that devised the original CrossFire scheme —using an external FPGA chip and a pass-through video cable—as a ...
