Radeon HD 7950 vs. GeForce GTX 660 Ti revisited Ah, it's the eternal battle, the unending duopoly duel: GeForce versus Radeon, Radeon versus GeForce. The skirmishes are ongoing, but the victor is never decided for long. Today, another chapter in the story unfolds. Doesn't seem that long ago, back in August, when the GeForce GTX 660 Ti first hit the scene and squared off against the Radeon HD 7950. Win8 adoption low among web surfers, Steam gamers Microsoft says it's sold 40 million licenses for Windows 8. However, the new OS made up only 1.3% of web traffic in November according to Web analytics firm StatCounter. That figure is lower than the 4.9% Windows 7 enjoyed one month after its launch. Web stats don't really target early adopters, though; Windows XP made up 26.5% of web traffic in November despite being over a decade old. Gamers tend to be on the cutting edge, and the results of Valve's latest Steam survey provides some insight on how quickly that crowd is adopting Win8. The opt-in survey pegs Windows 8's share at 4.7%, which is higher than that of ... Read more... Read More ...
Piledriver trickles down to Opteron 4300 and 3300 CPUs AMD has released a fresh batch of Opteron processors with Piledriver inside. These chips are based on the same "Abu Dhabi" microarchitecture as the Opteron 6300 series that was announced last month. However, the Opteron 4300 and 3300 processors sport fewer cores, less cache, lower prices, and more conservative TDP ratings. Here's how the various model stack up: All of the chips have 8MB of L3 cache. The Opteron 4300 offerings can support up to six DIMMs and 192GB of memory per CPU, while the 3300 series is limited to four ... Read more... Read More ...
New Catalysts fix bugs, improve Far Cry 3 performance I don't know if AMD was totally serious when it announced plans to slow down its driver release cycle earlier this year. The company has been churning out incremental updates to its Catalyst 12.11 beta release like there's no tomorrow lately. Radeon users can now grab the Catalyst 12.11 beta 11 release along with a matching 12.11 CAP2 application profile update. All of the goodies of past releases are included, and AMD has added a handful of new bug fixes and Far Cry 3 performance enhancements. According to AMD, Far Cry 3 performance can go up by as much as 25% if you crank up multisampled antialiasing and ambient ... Read more... Read More ...
