Zalman Reserator Liquid CPU Cooler Detailed Do most pre-built CPU liquid cooler kits look the same to you? It's probably because they carry Asetek or Akasa design. Enter a refreshment in the pre-built arena: Zalman. The Korean PC cooling veteran unveiled Reserator, a liquid cooler which swaps the conventional-looking radiator for a high-performance heatsink with radially-projecting copper fins, in which the heat pipes are swapped with coolant channels. The contraption is ventilated by a 120 mm Zalman custom-design blue or red LED-lit fan, with PWM control. The CPU block features copper base with mirror finish, while its other parts are given aesthetic touches with chrome plating and LEDs. The cooler will be designed to handle thermal loads as high as 400W. It is slated for early-2013.

Transcend Announces ESD200 Series Portable SSD Transcend announced the ESD200 line of portable SSDs. Measuring 62 x 92 x 10.5 mm (WxDxH) and weighing just 56 g, the drives are available in 128 GB and 256 GB capacities, and take advantage of USB 3.0 SuperSpeed interface, with a single cable handling both power and host connectivity. The drives provide sequential read speeds of up to 260 MB/s, and up to 225 MB/s sequential writes. In addition to data encryption software, the zippy road-warriors come with ECC support, and one-touch data backup. The included Transcend Elite software also syncs files and settings between computers although it's not [yet?] Windows to Go certified. The 256 GB and 128 GB variants are priced around $250 and $125, respectively.

CM Storm Scout 2 Gunmetal Grey Case Launched Although announced along with the standard "Midnight Black" color scheme in September, it is only now that the "Gunmetal Grey" version of CM Storm Scout 2 case is available in certain markets. Its price tag remains unchanged from that of the Midnight Black, at US $99.99. An ATX mid-tower by design, the Scout 2 packs features that make it ideal for carrying around, to LAN parties, which is characterized by a large rubberized handle on top. The case includes three 5.25-inch drive bays, seven 3.5/2.5-inch internal bays, and a ventilation system that includes a perforated front (two 120 mm front intakes), a 120 mm rear spinner, two side 120 mm fan provisions, and two 120 mm top fans.

Samsung to Unveil 4+4 Core big.LITTLE Processor in 2013 Samsung is reportedly taking interest in ARM's big.LITTLE technology - an SoC design in which high-performance Cortex-A15 cores are combined by low-power Cortex-A7 cores, and the two are made to trade places as the device's CPU, depending on the load. An SoC slated for 2013, which could probably feature in high-end smartphones and tablets, sees a combination of four each of A15 and A7 cores. The A15 cores are clocked at 1.80 GHz, and A7 at 1.20 GHz, with the former featuring higher IPC than the latter. A 2 MB last-level cache serves as town-square for data and instructions going to the various cores. The chip will be built on the 28 nm process.

Rockstar Games "Considers" GTA V Wii U and PC Versions Rockstar Games' biggest title for 2013, Grand Theft Auto V (GTA V) is slated to arrive in Spring 2013, for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 platforms, with no PC version, much to the dismay of PC gamers and enthusiasts. In an interview with IGN, Rockstar Vice President Dan Houser suggested that versions of the game for the Nintendo Wii U and PC are "up for consideration," a cleverly constructed phrase that settles quite a bit of uncertainty. It shows that Rockstar hasn't even begun work on a PC version of GTA V. "We are a third-party publisher. We're not Nintendo, we're not Sony, we're not Microsoft. We love all of them in different ways. But we can do what we want wherever there's the appropriate business opportunity and chance to find a market," said Houser. "Some other people talk about the limitations of the [current] hardware. We don't feel there are that many limitations. We feel we can do some very impressive stuff and do it for a large audience. This felt like the way," he added.

Lenovo Unveils ThinkPad X1 Carbon Touch Ultrabook with Windows 8 Ahead of its December launch, Lenovo gave us a sneak peak of the ThinkPad X1 Carbon Touch Ultrabook on its website. The 14-incher retains the essential design of its August 2012 launched predecessor, with the addition of Windows 8 Pro, a multi-touch screen, and a screen-resolution marked "HD+," which most probably is 1600 x 900 pixels. No other details were revealed. We don't expect the new X1 Carbon to deviate from its formidable system specs, which includes Core i5 "Ivy Bridge" with vPro processor, GeForce graphics, and SSD/HDD storage options.

NVIDIA Rolls Out the GeForce 310.61 Beta Drivers NVIDIA has today made available a new beta-tagged graphics driver, the GeForce 310.61 which is a small update from the GeForce 310.54 offering improved compatibility for PlanetSide 2 and Hitman: Absolution. The GeForce 310.61 Beta supports GeForce 8, 9, 100, 200, 300, 400, 500 and 600 Series cards and is available for Windows 7, 8 and Vista, in both 32-bit and 64-bit flavors.

Intel SSD 525 mSATA SSD Pictured, Tested Intel's SSD 525 line of performance mSATA SSDs may be slated for 2013, but made an early debut with the company's NUC (next unit of computing) desktop. A 180 GB variant of the drive was put to test by VR-Zone, which is driven by LSI-SandForce SF-2281 processor, and features three Intel-made 20 nm MLC NAND flash chips (6-channels). The drive cracked Anvil Storage Utilities benchmark with 504 MB/s (compressible) and 463 MB/s (incompressible) sequential read speeds, 468 MB/s (compressible) and 240 MB/s (incompressible) sequential writes, and about 55,841 IOPS 4K random write (QD16) performance. The performance numbers make the drive appear nearly as fast as larger 2.5-inch SATA SSDs, and could be a boon for Ultrabook makers.

(PR) HP Reports Fourth Quarter and Full Year 2012 Results HP today announced financial results for its fourth fiscal quarter and full fiscal year ended Oct. 31, 2012. For the full year fiscal 2012, net revenue of $120.4 billion was down 5% from the prior-year period and down 4% when adjusted for the effects of currency. Full-year GAAP loss per share was $6.41, down from diluted earnings per share (EPS) of $3.32 in the prior-year period. Full-year non-GAAP diluted EPS was $4.05, down 17% from the prior-year period. Full year non-GAAP earnings information excludes after tax costs of $20.7 billion, or $10.46 per diluted share, related to the impairment of goodwill and purchased intangible assets, restructuring charges, amortization of purchased intangible assets, charges relating to the wind down of non-strategic businesses and acquisition-related charges.

Gigabyte Unveils GeForce GTX 660 Ti WindForce III 3 GB Graphics Card Gigabyte unveiled a variation of its 3 GB GeForce GTX 660 Ti OC graphics card. Bearing the model number N66TWF3-3GD, the card sticks to NVIDIA reference clock speeds of 915/980/6008 MHz (core/GPU Boost/memory). It features WindForce 3 triple-fan cooler featuring three 80 mm fans, ventilating a complex heatpipe-fed heatsink. Based on the 28 nm GK104 GPU, the GeForce GTX 660 Ti packs 1344 CUDA cores, and a 192-bit wide GDDR5 memory interface. On this card, twelve 2 Gbit GDDR5 chips are used, arranged on either sides of the PCB. Expect the card to cost around 300€.

HDPLEX Unveils H5.TODD and H3.TODD HTPC Cases HDPLEX unveiled the H5.TODD and H3.TODD fanless cases. The two are outfitted with Blu-ray ROM drives with a custom drive tray fascia that gels with their brushed aluminum finish. The H3.TODD is designed for mini-ITX motherboards, while the H5.TOOD can house micro-ATX. Neither are tall enough for expansion cards. The two cases come with external solid-state power bricks, and heat-pipe based CPU blocks that convey heat to the bodies, which double up as heatsinks. More details are awaited.

(PR) Creative to License Technology and Patents to Intel in a $50 Million Deal Creative Technology Ltd today announced it has entered into an agreement with Intel Corporation for Intel to license certain technology and patents from ZiiLABS Inc. Ltd, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Creative, and acquire certain engineering resources and assets related to its UK subsidiary ZiiLABS Limited (formerly known as 3DLABS Limited). The US$50 million deal includes US$20 million to Creative for the licensing of certain technologies to Intel relating to ZiiLABS' high performance GPU technology. The second part of the deal is US$30 million to Creative for the transfer of certain engineering resources and assets in the UK subsidiary to Intel. The UK subsidiary is a design entity engaged in, primarily on behalf of ZiiLABS Inc. Ltd, the development of various silicon solutions, including the ZMS chips for Creative.
