Party Politician Goes After Book Pirates
Imagine that, a prominent pirate party member doesn't like when her stuff is pirated. Whoddathunkit? I guess it's okay to download movies, music and books...just as long as they don't belong to the pirates.

Julia Schramm, a prominent board member of the German Pirate Party, had success in scoring a lucrative book deal and finally had her work published this week. Nothing out of the ordinary there, if it wasn't for the fact that Schramm and her publisher are now clamping down on book pirates. Dropbox removed a copy of Schramm's book after it received a DMCA take-down request today and another copy hosted on the Pirate Party's own site also vanished into thin air.

First Valve Hardware Going Into Beta Next Year
Jeri Ellsworth, in an interview with Engadget, said that Valve will actually have beta hardware out next year. What kind of hardware? Hit the link for all the info.

Valve employee Jeri Ellsworth told us in an interview this week. As the team ramps up, production becomes more and more prolific, of course; Ellsworth lights up when she talks about the work her team is doing now. She gets verbose when asked about corporate culture at Valve, about how she's never worked at a company where risk and failure are so acceptable -- even encouraged. She's visibly excited about the prototypes she's creating at Valve's new prototyping facility, but manages to contain herself enough to not let slip exactly what her and her team are working on.

Wow, not a bad way to earn $30,000. Pretty damn scary how talented some of these guys are.

Their attack works on iOS 5.1.1 and the developer release of iOS 6, and probably also works on the iPhone 5, said Joost Pol and Daan Keuper of Dutch security company Certified Secure. They said that it also works on iPads.

Sapphire Radeon HD 7950 3GB Vapor-X
Overclockers Club put the Sapphire Radeon HD 7950 3GB Vapor-X through a battery of benchmarks, crunched the numbers and jotted the whole experience down on paper. Well, not really paper...but you know what I mean. Here's a quote from the review:

Overclocking the Sapphire HD 7950 3 GB Vapor-X was an interesting endeavor. Using the included Sapphire TriXX software was quite easy and intuitive, so the software really wasn't an issue at all. Using Unigine Heaven 3.0 looping for 30 minutes at a time, I slowly brought up the core clocks; after settling on a maximum core clock, I did the same thing with the memory clocks (while leaving the core clock at the maximum stable value). Usually, this process goes quite smoothly, but for some reason, this card was a bit more picky than most and took me a lot longer to settle in on stable values.

Samsung Launches iPhone 5 'Attack Ad'
Samsung's new Galaxy S III ad is pretty funny but not really worthy of a news post by itself. It is the response to the ad that makes the ad worthy of sharing. C|Net is actually calling it an "attack ad" that "slams" people waiting in line for an iPhone 5. Oh c'mon, an attack ad? Really?

Apple Wants $3B in Damages From Samsung
What the heck, if the courts are willing to give you one billion in damages, why not push your luck and go for triple that amount instead.

Attorneys for Apple plan to ask U.S. District Judge Lucy Koh to order Samsung to pay $3 billion after losing the recent patent suit between the two companies, reports the Korea Times. A hearing is set for Friday in which Apple will argue its case. In seeking triple the amount in damages, Apple would likely rely on a jury decision that found Samsung guilty of "willfull infringement" on five of the six patents in question.
