Panasonic Announces Waterproof & Shockproof Anti-Magnetic SD Cards
Panasonic announced its newest line of SDHC and SDXC cards that are built to last against the elements, and then some. The new SDAB and SDUB series cards are built to be waterproof, shockproof, freeze proof, X-ray proof, and anti-magnetic. The Panasonic SDAB series consists of 8 GB, 16 GB, and 32 GB SDHC cards, offering up to 95 MB/s reads, and up to 80 MB/s writes; while the Panasonic SDUB series comes in 8, 16, 32 GB SDHC and 64 GB SDXC variants, offering up to 90 MB/s reads, with up to 45 MB/s writes. The two new lines of sturdy SD cards are slated for September market-release.

Toshiba Corporation today announced the launch of a family of advanced 3.5-inch HDDs that bring multi-terabyte capacities to the consumer space. Four series of high-performance models offer a total of 12 variants: four models offering 3 TB capacities, complemented by models offering 2 TB and 1.5 TB levels of storage. Volume shipments of the drives, produced with manufacturing equipment acquired in a recent transaction with Western Digital Corporation of the United States, will start at the end of this month. In adding these drives to its current line of 250 GB to 1 TB consumer-use 3.5-inch HDDs Toshiba will expand its product coverage to a wide ranging 250 GB to 3 TB.

GIGABYTE Readies H77N-WiFi Mini-ITX Motherboard with Triple Network Interfaces
GIGABYTE is working on a new mini-ITX form-factor motherboard for HTPCs and home servers. The H77N-WiFi, built for socket LGA1155 Core Sandy Bridge and Ivy Bridge processors, and based on Intel H77 Express chipset, features three network interfaces: two gigabit Ethernet, and an 802.11 b/g/n WLAN. Revving up its HTPC credentials, the board also features two HDMI display outputs, so you can plug your TV to one, and home theater receiver to the other (for multi-channel digital audio). The GIGABYTE H77N-WiFi draws power from 24-pin ATX and 4-pin CPU power connectors. The LGA1155 socket is powered by a 4+1 phase VRM that appears to use common ferrite core chokes and LFPAK MOSFETs. The LGA1155 CPU is wired to two DDR3 DIMM slots, supporting up to 16 GB of dual-channel DDR3-1600 MHz memory; and a PCI-Express 3.0 x16. The Intel H77 PCH gives out two SATA 6 Gb/s and two SATA 3 Gb/s ports, with support for Smart Response technology (SSD caching). Apart from dual-HDMI, the board supports DVI-I.

AMD today announced that it has agreed to sell $500 million aggregate principal amount of its 7.50% Senior Notes due 2022 in a private offering. AMD intends to close the transaction on or around August 15, 2012. AMD estimates that the net proceeds from the issuance and sale of the senior notes will be approximately $491 million after deducting the initial purchasers' discounts and estimated offering expenses.

AMD intends to use the net proceeds for general corporate purposes and working capital, which may include the following: (i) the repayment or repurchase of some or all of its outstanding 5.75% Convertible Senior Notes due 2012, (ii) repayment or repurchase of some or all of its outstanding 6.00% Convertible Senior Notes due 2015, (iii) cash payments to GLOBALFOUNDRIES related to the 28nm product limited waiver of exclusivity, or (iv) potential strategic transactions.
