Microsoft wraps ribbon around Windows 8 Explorer interface
Think Windows 8 is all about tablet-centric tiles? Think again. The Building Windows 8 blog has an interesting post on changes Microsoft is making to Windows Explorer. The old look is out, and an Office-style ribbon is in. Before you get too worried, note that Microsoft has attempted to "respect Explorer's heritage" by bringing back some features from the Windows XP Explorer, including the "up" folder navigation button.
The post has quite a lot of information on how frequently various Explorer commands are used and whether those commands are invoked via the toolbar, hotkeys, or right-clicking. According to Microsoft, the new ribbon UI will put the most commonly used functions up front, while keeping the rest of Explorer's commands in "scenario-focused ...

Serious Sam 3, Torchlight II undercut competition
We've all heard complaints about the high cost of the latest blockbuster games. $60 seems to be the norm these days, but not every new release is that expensive. Although screen sizes of 11.6" and 13.3" are in the cards, it's unclear whether all the models will be based on the same slim UX Series design shown at Computex earlier this year. With multiple screens and configuration options, I suspect Asus will be able to offer half a dozen distinct iterations without having to bust out a new chassis.
Curious about the competition? Notebook Italia snagged some pictures of an upcoming Acer ultrabook with an aluminum chassis and what appears to be a 13" screen. Dubbed the Aspire 3951, ...

Leaked slide teases improved Cedar Trail graphics performance
The rumor mill suggests that Intel's next-generation Atom platform, code-namded Cedar Trail, won't make its formal debut until November. Will it be worth the wait? Maybe, at least based on some benchmark numbers leaked by VR-Zone. The site has posted an official-looking slide detailing the performance of a couple of Cedar Trail CPUs versus their Pine Trail and Oak Trail predecessors.
On the CPU front, Cedar Trail doesn't look like much of an upgrade. The upcoming Atom N2800 dually scores higher than the fastest Pine Trail CPUs, ...
