RWT explores the importance of semiconductor cooling
As PC enthusiasts, we often invest in expensive heatsinks, fans, and liquid coolers in an attempt to either overclock or achieve some peace and quiet. There's another dimension to the world of cooling, however, as David Kanter explains in his latest article over at Real World Technologies.

Samsung prepping cheaper Series 3 notebooks
Samsung notebooks hold a special place in at least one of our editors' hearts. The company's new Series 9 notebooks look very slick, too, but they're a little on the pricey side. Thankfully, it looks like Samsung is set to roll out a batch of more...

15th Quake-iversary triggers a bundle of memories, nerve fibers
I almost missed this because I was polishing off a 10K-word opus, but yesterday was the 15th anniversary of the release of Quake, the seminal first-person shooter that in many ways fueled the nascent PC enthusiast community of the day.

Study contends video games decrease violent crime
For years, decades even, we've been told that violent video games are bad, mmmkay. The violent ones are supposed to be particularly insidious because they desensitize folks to brutality and encourage them to act out virtual fantasies in the real world. What if violent video games actually decreased...

Lipstick on a pigcop: My take on Duke Nukem Forever
I remember the first time I played Duke Nukem 3D. I was 11 and three quarters, and I had convinced my parents to hook us up to 33.6Kbps dial-up Internet just to download the demo on the family's Performa 5200/75. The download weighed in at around 6MB, so it must...

PCI-SIG to concoct an alternative to Thunderbolt
As if the fight for supremacy between Thunderbolt and USB 3.0 weren't bad enough, it now looks like a third contestant might enter the ring. New digital camera tech offers focus after the fact
We tend not to cover digital cameras here at TR, but I just ran across an interesting piece about a technology from Lytro that lets you set the focus on your images after taking them. Lytro achieves this feat by using a new kind of sensor that captures...

Duke Nukem Forever demo released for all
Back in the day—way back, like, when Duke Nukem Forever was conceived—free demos were often available before a game's retail release. These days, demos have all but disappeared from the landscape. Some developers offer up multiplayer betas long before a game's full release, but that practice seems to...

Crime rate has been falling while video game sales have been rising over the past 20 years, so the whole "violent video games lead to violent crimes" argument never held much water anyhow. It’s nice to see that those running the study are taking a realistic approach to how people actually play video games.
Excellent information at the blog. Thanks
