AMD Rejects BAPCo's SYSmark 2012 - Should We? @ PCSTATS
"In the last Hard Drive review I wrote I was by necessity mainly limited
in my acoustic testing to a subjective listening test of how much Drive
noise I was able to hear while the drive was seeking/writing. This was
because my Radio Shack db meter was not able to measure any sound level
differences while the Drive was in use inside my case over ambient case
noise, even with the side panel open. Although, technically accurate, it
was nonetheless frustrating to write that the previous drive I reviewed
(Seagate ST3750330AS 750GB SATA HD) was in my usage under ambient sound
levels, especially since I am sure most of my readers don't have 10 fans
(6 case fans, 1 PS fan, 2 CPU fans, 1 video card fan) in their case,
greatly muffling any Hard Drive noise there might be. To this end I have
done some digging and provided the manufacturer supplied sound levels
below. As you can see the Seagate ST31000524AS is even quieter than the
Seagate ST3750330AS Hard Drive which was itself silent inside my
personal wind tunnel (well-ventilated case)"

Pico Power Supply Backplate Review @ PCSTATS
In a rare move, AMD has publicly ousted a leading industry benchmark, BAPCo's SYSmark 2012, released mere weeks ago. The company believes both that the benchmark is unfair in its weighting of scores, and also that it's irrelevant for the average consumer. We delve deep into these claims, and offer up our own opinions.

Gaming Case Roundup: Six Sub-$200 Choices @ PCSTATS
When you use a picoPSU in a case with space for a full ATX power supply unit (PSU) two questions can’t help but come up: how to plug the giant gap in the back, and where to mount the external plug. In the past I’ve just cut the back off a broken standard PSU and drilled a hole. While certainly functional, it’s clearly not ideal for everyone as it requires power tools, a sacrificial unit and tolerance for a less visually appealing final product. Fortunately there is a solution which allows a more polished look and alleviates the need for surgical skill -- sourced from Doug Kenyon, a fellow HTPC enthusiast who mentioned the plate’s existence on AVS Forum.

Corsair HS1A Gaming Headset Review @ PCSTATS
Mushkin offers their dual-channel Blackline Ridgeback in 8GB kits at $125 (USD), and to spice that up .. it is offered as a 2000 MHz kit, with granted not the most sexy timings but at a CAS latency of 9 versus 2000 MHz versus two 4GB high-density DDR3 modules.

At 125 USD , and that's 15.6 USD per GB, you can understand that this kit might be a nice alternative to low latency 1333 and 1600 MHz kits. Muskin even tops that off by a lifetime warranty on this product so all in all that can't be a bad deal, no Sir.

Gigabyte 990FXA-UD5 @ PCSTATS
When we took Corsair's first gaming headset for a spin last fall, the HS1, we were left impressed by the fact that the company went for balanced audio instead of boomy bass, resulting in a refreshing listening experience. As they were USB-based, though, some who owned dedicated audio cards shunned them. The remedy? The HS1A.

OCZ Vertex 3 MAX IOPS @ PCSTATS
"At the end of last month during Computex we saw the AMD 990FX chipset launch which brought with it some strong features. One of the more appealing ones was that it supports the new Bulldozer CPUs that are due out later this year. Because AMD aren't changing the socket, though, for the first generation of Bulldozer we can have boards now that support it while also supporting the current crop of CPUs from AMD.

At launch we looked at the Crosshair V Formula from ASUS. It's a great board, but at $239.99 US it might be a bit more money than you want to spend. In steps the M5A99X EVO from ASUS; priced at $164.99 US it might be a more attractive option for you and your bank account. At $75 US less, is the M5A99X EVO an option that people really want to look at, though? What does $75 US less get you? We'll find that out and more today as we dive into the M5A99X EVO. Outside of being part of the ROG series, the board we're looking at also carries the 990X chipset instead of the 990FX chipset we saw on the C4F."

Corsair Professional Series HX1050 @ PCSTATS
In hockey, the enforcer is the tough guy, the monster, the goon who exacts revenge on dirty play by their opponent, with exceptionally harsh violence exacted on those going after star players. If we can take this definition to this case, it has built-in attitude- with revenge coming to those who challenge it. With its very clean imposing looks, it has enforcer written all over it.

"HTPCs have certainly been around for a while, but a growing trend in recent years is the use of cut down versions of this. Mini PCs and Media centres are beginning to dominate people’s lounges as DVDs go the way of VHS and digital streaming is what its all about. Internet access and better organisation of media are also benefits of this, and there’s plenty of companies to choose from if you fancy a setup like this.

Recently, our good friends at Corsair sent us their newest premium speaker set, the SP2500 2.1. We’ll overclock our CPUs and massage our video settings to get every last FPS and graphical effect; it stands to reason that, to complete the immersive gaming experience, we shouldn’t neglect the audio landscape. OCZ Vertex 3 240GB SATA 6Gbit/s SSD Review @ PCSTATS
"This is evident with the ASUS P8Z68-V motherboard. The ASUS P8Z68-V shaves a little off the top to make it a much more attractive and affordable motherboard. We still get almost identical features to the V-PRO. There is the Intel Z68 Express Chipset which supports both iGPU and CPU overclocking. The LGA1155 socket supports the newest Intel Sandybridge processors. There is memory support up to 2200MHz (O.C). Max capacity tops off at 32GB. The P8Z68-V includes 16 phase power and DIP2 technology. DIP2 uses the EPU and TPU in tandem for total system control. It also allows excellent power saving and overclocking abilities. Because the P8Z68-V allows the use of the iGPU, there is support for Intel Quick Sync."
