Intel's 'Cedar Trail' 32nm Atom platform detailed, set for Q4 release
For the second half of this year Intel has planned the release of its first 32nm Atom solutions, and one of them is the 'Cedar Trail' platform (the successor of the very popular 'Pine Trail') which targets netbooks, nettops, all-in-one PCs and is reportedly scheduled for a Q4 arrival.

EKL's Alpenföhn Peter VGA cooler gets listed
Seen at CeBIT 2011 in Hannover, the Alpenföhn Peter high-end VGA cooler from EKL, which is claimed to be the first one supporting two 140mm fans, has now become available for pre-order, its expected arrival being May 18.

LG to showcase MeeGo-based devices next month in San Francisco
Nokia may no longer be its BFF (they'll still hang out though), but MeeGo is doing fine since LG Electronics stepped up and is showing it a lot of attention. So much so that next month the South Korean company will present to the world some MeeGo-based devices.

Phone shipments up 19.8% in Q1, Apple back to fourth place
A new Worldwide Mobile Phone Tracker report has been compiled and published by IDC and it paints a very rosy picture of the first quarter of 2011 which saw phone shipments reach 371.8 million units, up 19.8% compared to the same period of 2010.

Intel working on 50 Gb/s interconnect technology
Despite the fact that Thunderbolt has barely made its debut, Intel is already hard at work on something that would make its 10 Gb/s technology seem old and obsolete, a new interconnect solution capable of 50 Gb/s transfers.

Google spills the beans on Samsung's Chrome OS netbook
As exposed by a code.google.com page, Samsung has been working on a Chrome OS-based netbook codenamed 'Alex' which could see the light of day this summer. The web page detailing the device has been removed but fortunately for us, the specs listed were noted down.

Microsoft enjoys record March quarter thanks to Office, Xbox performance
Keeping up with Intel and Apple, Microsoft too has announced that the quarter ended March 31st (Q3 of fiscal year 2011) was record-breaking, resulting in a revenue of $16.43 billion (up 13% on-year), a net income of $5.23 billion (up 31%) and diluted earnings per share of $0.61 (up 36%).

OCZ unveils the VeloDrive PCIe x8 solid state drives
OCZ has now announced a new storage solution that utilizes a PCI-Express x8 interface, the SandForce-powered VeloDrive which utilizes four SF-1565 controllers in (hardware or software) RAID and targets small to medium-sized businesses (SMBs), enterprise clients and system integrators.

Samsung hits Apple with another patent suit, this time in the US
As a counter-attack to Apple's own lawsuit, last week Samsung filed patent infringement complaints against the Cupertino company in South Korea, Japan and Germany. This week, Samsung upped the ante and sued Apple in the US too, claiming that 10 of its patents are being violated.
