Windows 8 upgrades Shadow Copy function to History Vault
A leak has uncovered plans for Windows 8 to imitate the behavior of Time Machine in Mac OS X. Nicknamed History Vault, it would use the Shadow Copies feature that came in Vista and Windows 7, but give it a proper visual interface for restoring older files. The WinRumors screenshot doesn't provide many details of the restoration process but shows that users could use both real and virtual drives to make a History Vault archive. Apple's equivalent feature first appeared in Mac OS X Leopard in 2005, roughly two years before Vista, and was considered one of the first easy backup options to include an individual file restore system. Mac OS X Lion is due to add a Versions parallel that will let users go back through many edits of a single file instead of simply going by date.

Xbox 360 discs get extra 1GB for game data
Microsoft's new disc format will provide more capacity to game data - the disc that is being used by the Xbox 360 console will not change physically because it's still a plain old DVD reader inside the console, but a dashboard update will allow game developers to use more of a DVD's capacity to store game data. While a dual layer DVD holds around 8GB of data, the game data partition on an Xbox 360 game disc only allows for 6.8GB of data. The rest of used for a video partition present on each disc and other data. By using a dashboard update to enable the system to read from a larger game data partition, developers will get about an extra 1GB of space.

Spam down by a third thanks to Microsoft
MessageLabs agency reports the total spam spam is down by more than a third, thanks to action by Microsoft against one of the biggest botnets that serve it up, the Rustock. 88 percent of all spam emails were sent by botnets, and of that botnet-originated spam, Rustock was responsible for an average of 28 percent. Microsoft's action in taking out Rustock has unsurprisingly had a substantial impact on spam levels, but MessageLabs reports that other botnets have increased spam production over the same period, making it likely that previous spam volumes will be resumed soon enough.
