Young Facebook Users Are Lying Little Creeps
A new study shows that young Facebook users are a bunch of conniving little liars! I am so disappointed in our youth today, nobody else lies or tries to act cool on the internet. YOUNG people admit to using tools such as Facebook, Twitter and smartphone apps to appear "cool" rather than communicate. Research shows image-obsessed mobile phone wielders were prepared to embellish or lie about their activities to boost their credibility among friends. Comments

"The new material is also flame resistant and lighter weight" than the Air Force's cammies. Comments

NZXT Phantom Computer Case
A review of the NZXT Phantom computer case has been posted by the gang at Tweaknews today. Here's a quote from the review: The more I played with the NZXT Phantom, the more I liked it. The white finish with its black accents really makes this case stand out from the crowd and the roomy interior was a joy to work in thanks to the excellent cable management. Comments

Egyptian Names His Firstborn "Facebook"
I'm all for giving credit where credit is due, but this is a bit of a stretch. Naming your firstborn child Facebook would be the ultimate compliment to the company credited with helping a social revolution in Egypt. I wonder how the name sounds in Arabic? I sure hope for her sake it sounds much better than in English. While the baby girl could just have easily been called "YouTube," "Twitter" "Google" or even "Cellphone Camera," it seems like Facebook has become the umbrella symbol for how social media can spread the message of freedom. Notebook Components in Short Supply
If you are looking for a new notebook computer, you may be on hold for a few months. The demand for critical components is high right now, with production being diverted to the more lucrative handheld markets. It's an unfortunate turn, but it's a supply and demand scenario, with the handhelds winning this round. Acer and Hewlett-Packard (HP) reportedly noticed the CIS supply problem at internal meetings in January, pushing HP to take supplies from SETi. Comments

Scientists Build First "Anti-laser"
In a paper published back in July for Physical Reviews Letters, the theory of producing an anti-laser was proposed. The scientists at Yale University took that theory and produced the first anti-laser device. The name sounds ominous, but the uses for the technology are aimed squarely on building an optical computer in the not-so-distant future. "After some research, we found that several physicists had hinted at the concept in books and scientific papers, but no one had ever developed the idea," Comments

Solar Storm Threat Increasing
Solar storms in the past were nothing much more that oddities since electronic technology had not developed, but today is another story altogether. The danger of disruption is much greater with the world wired together via cell phones, computers, GPS and massive electrical grids. Solar storms generally run in 11 year cycles, and we are overdue. "Many things that we take for granted today are so much more prone to the process of space weather than was the case in the last solar maximum." Comments

Milky Way Estimate: 50 Billion Exoplanets
The announcement was made on Saturday in Washington, by Kepler science chief William Borucki. He didn't actually count the dots obviously, but rather used extrapolations of work completed, arriving at the 50 Billion number. The possibility of habitable planets within our own galaxy is now estimated at 500 Million. It is looking more likely that we aren't the only fish in the pond. Comments
