Wealthy Suburbs Get Best Broadband Deals
A new study claims that, if you buy a $500,000 home in the burbs, you are more likely to get better deal on broadband than you are if you rent a $500 a month apartment in the hood. I'm not sure I would want the house payment / property taxes on a 500k place just to save $20 on my broadband but that's just me. Cost per Mbps in the poorer ZIP codes was $31.17 (based on 304 surveys); cost per Mbps in the wealthier ZIP codes was $9.58 (based on 428 surveys). The average monthly bill in the poorer areas was $51.22; the average monthly bill in the wealthier areas was $55.05. Comments

Video Game Sales Down Again in January
With the economy and job market in the shape they are in, is it any surprise that video game sales were down again? Crappy games aren't helping things either. Think about it, how many "good" games came out last month? For the month of January, the industry sold $576 million in software, down 5 percent from $606 million a year earlier. Hardware sales were down 8 percent, from $353.7 million in January 2010 to $324 million last month, according to NPD. If there were any bright spots in the industry, Microsoft claimed them for its Xbox 360 platform. Comments

Kids Who Skip School Are Tracked By GPS
Are you a seventh grader that likes skipping school? Then welcome to the world of GPS tracking. Ever see that show where they tranquilize the bear and put the tracking collar on him? Yup, it's just like that. See you in class Yogi! The Anaheim Union High School District is the first in California to test Global Positioning System technology as part of a six-week pilot program that began last week, officials said. Seventh- and eighth-graders with four unexcused absences or more this school year are assigned to carry a handheld GPS device, about the size of a cell phone. Comments

Lancool PC-K59 Case
The Neoseeker gang seems to really like the design of the Lancool PC-K59 case they just reviewed. Personally I think that case is just screaming for someone to cut a window in it / mod the hell out of it but that's just me. The Lancool PC-K59 is a sturdy case that's all about being as silent and tool-free as possible. Designed with silent fans and rubber washers to reduce vibrations, Lancool wanted this case to be quiet. There are thumb screws for all the drives and motherboard, and it even has locking latches for 7 of the 8 expansion slots. You may not have to use a single screw driver when building a computer into this case. Comments

Confessions of an Apple Store Employee
Popular Mechanics has an article posted today called Confessions of an Apple Store Employee. While I want to act all "shocked" and stuff, the truth, is this article sounds like it could be describing your average retail store / mall employee. Its amazing how badly behaved some customers are. I have seen customers have complete meltdowns and get phones exchanged that were like two years old. They scream, cry, curse. And it works. People can be horrible. Sometimes it's like working at McDonald's, with better pay. I've never been treated so badly in my life. Comments

XFX Pro Series Core Edition Power Supplies
The fellas at Overclockers Club have posted their review of XFX's Pro Series Core Edition power supplies today. You can see our evaluation here for comparison purposes. The XFX Pro Series Core Edition power supplies performed very well across the range. The DC voltage load regulation was excellent from 20% to 100% DC loading and in combination with very low AC ripple/noise levels means excellent DC quality on all rails on all three power supplies. The 3V3 and 5V0 rails dipped a little lower than I would have liked but they still remained well within the limits set down by the ATX12V V2.2 specification and won't prove to be a problem when the biggest dip below ideal rail voltage was only 0.09V. FBI: We're Not Demanding Encryption Back Doors
The FBI claims that it no longer wants backdoors built into encryption products. Apparently all they want now is just expanded internet wiretapping and that is it. No really, you can trust them, they are from the government and they're here to help. FBI general counsel Valerie Caproni told a congressional committee that the bureau's push for expanded Internet wiretapping authority doesn't mean giving law enforcement a master key to encrypted communications, an apparent retreat from her position last fall.
