
LucidLogix makes its own graphics switching technology
LucidLogix has moved beyond its Hydra GPU-combining hardware and today announced Virtu, a GPU virtualization software that enables real-time switching between integrated and discrete graphics, similar to Nvidia's Optimus technology. With Virtu, LucidLogix is targeting Sandy Bridge-based systems featuring a H67 motherboard (since the display has to be connected to the board and not the discrete GPU), an LGA1155 processor and an Nvidia or AMD graphics card.

Europe delivers common phone charger specs
After more than a year of work, Europe's standardization bodies, the CEN-CENELEC and ETSI, have made available the harmonized standards required for the implementation of a common phone charger that would work with phones from multiple manufacturers. Since early 2009 European Commission has been pushing for a universal charger that would make consumer life easier, significantly reduce mobile-related waste, and make phones a bit cheaper, since manufacturers won't have to include a charger with every single unit. The common phone charger utilizes the Micro-USB connector and is expected to have a 4-star or higher efficiency rating.

AMD Deccan portable platform to come by end of 2011
AMD plans to begin internal testing of a new, next-generation Deccan platform for netbooks and tablets in the first quarter of 2011. Deccan, which is a sequel to AMD's first Fusion Brazos platform, uses AMD's Krishna Accelerated Processing Unit (APU), which combines graphics directly within the core processor, and the Yuba chipset. Brazos has a similar setup using the matching Ontario processor and Hudson chipset.

PlayStation 3 might be permanently jailbroken
A hacking group called fail0verflow has presented at this week's Chaos Communication Conference 27C3, showing off the PlayStation 3 private key that Sony uses to authorize code on all retail consoles. Knowing the private key means any hacker can gain full control of the PS3 system, without needing to jailbreak it using a USB dongle. The team's site is not available yet, but should be soon, giving more details.
