Barnes and Noble Nookbooks Go Platinum with Millions Served

Sporting some great features that set it apart from the latest generation of tablet devices and ebook readers (e-readers), Barnes and Noble's 2nd entrant into the market is a smashing success. The combined book sales from their original e-Ink + color Nook and now the 100% color NOOKcolor have reached 1 million. That number just surpassed their online presence, bn.com, in total physical book sales. It will likely be a long time before the the Nook books outsell BN's B&M sales. The new NOOKcolor was their holiday season's best seller this year and it continues to be lauded as a best value device. The NOOKcolor's subtle combination of best features continue to win fans and may reshape the tablet gold rush that will erupt in 2011. Beneath the polish of the NOOK reader application and store, sits a very capable Android device. It lacks the processing power of the Galaxy Tab and the iPad but makes up for it in a few key ways. At roughly $249 it is probably the best value 7-inch Android tablet available. The NOOKcolor can also be charged by standard micro-USB cables and chargers and not the proprietary cables required by the Samsung Tab and Apple iPad. On top of needing special cables both of those competitors also require a much higher power output to charge them. Having to purchase extra chargers and cables still at a premium, makes the NOOKcolor even more of a bargain. It does lack GPS and location services as well but exploits to unlock the full potential of Android are readily available. All these features for less than you'd pay on contract for many smart-phones of the same caliber give plenty of reason why Barnes and Noble has so quickly established itself among the veteran e-reader Goliaths, Sony and Amazon Kindle.
