Peer-to-Peer WiFi Direct is a Go
The WiFi Alliance announced today that its new peer-to-peer WiFi Direct will appear on some WiFi devices immediately. The Alliance also announced that it has begun to certify devices for the new connection protocol. Some WiFi cards from Atheros, Broadcom, Cisco, Intel, and Realtek have been certified for WiFi Direct, as well as the Cisco Aironet 2010 access points. These devices will also appear in the testing suite to ensure that future devices are compatible with the new protocol. What WiFi Direct does is to allow devices to connect in a peer-to-peer fashion, one-to-one or in a group, and share data. Say you have a smartphone with WiFi Direct and you want to share some content with a buddy who also has a phone with WiFi Direct. The two of you can link your phones together, without connecting to a WiFi network, and share the content directly. It is similar in principle to ad-hoc WiFi or Bluetooth, but WiFi Direct offers the longest range and fastest throughput, as well as enterprise-class management and security features. WiFi Direct devices can also connect to older WiFi Certified devices, just it will probably be a one-way connection.

Early Details and a Video for Starcraft 2: Heart of the Swarm
The announcements keep coming at Blizzcon, though this one isn't as big as the Diablo 3 announcement. During a Q&A session with developers, a few details were revealed about the next chapter in the Starcraft saga, Heart of the Swarm. A seemingly obvious detail is that it will take place after the end of the Wings of Liberty campaign, though a concrete time frame wasn't specified. Also revealed was that Samir Duran, a villain from Brood War, could make a reappearance. Duran was responsible for the Protoss/Zerg hybrids seen in Wings of Liberty. The news that nobody wants to hear is that the game likely won't be out until after 2011. Check out a concept video while you wait.

Ortustech Unveils World's Smallest Full HD Display
You may be thinking you've never heard of Ortustech before and you would probably be right. I'm sure you have heard of Casio though. Ortustech is a joint venture between Casio Computer and Toppan Printing which has a goal of making small and medium sized displays. Well, Ortustech has just unveiled a product today that will surely make you pay attention. Ortustech has unveiled a 4.8 inch, 1920x1080 HAST LCD screen. The HAST stands for Hyper Amorphous Silicon TFT and it gives this 4.8 inch Full HD screen a 160 degree viewing angle, 16.8 million colors, and a pixel density of 458ppi. That pixel density easily bests the iPhone 4's 326ppi Retina display. However, the pixel density of this Ortustech screen still doesn't match the 546ppi panel Casio showed off back in 2008, something that still hasn't hit production, so don't get your hopes up right away of getting a Full HD display on your new phone. I am sure it will appear at trade shows, but for now, that seems like the only place to see it.
