Microsoft Office for Mac 2011 to be released at the end of October
Redmond-based Microsoft Corp. has today announced that the next version of its Mac-oriented Office suite - Office 2011, will hit retail stores in over 100 countries at the end of October in two editions - Home and Student and Home and Business.

NEC intros the E231W LED-backlit monitor
NEC Display Solutions has just announced the addition of a new LCD monitor to its offer, that of the business-oriented 23-inch MultiSync E231W model which features an LED backlight and comes equipped with an Intelligent Power Manager (IPM) enabling high power savings.

LG presents the Wink series mobile phones
Trying to make some more money off the youth of today, LG Electronics created a new line of mobile phones which combine style with a user-friendly interface and, of course, wide social networking support. The phone family in question is known as Wink and it has three models.

Chip sales rise again, reach $24.9 billion in June
The Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA) today reported that the month of June has seen global chip sales top $24.9 billion, up 0.5% compare to May and up 49.3% over June 2009, while Q2 revenue reached $74.8 billion, up 7.1% sequentially.

Dell coming up with the U3011 30-inch monitor
Straight outta China comes (more) evidence that Dell is going to soon update its UltraSharp monitor line and introduce the U3011, a 30-inch model with an IPS (In-Plane Switching) panel featuring a native resolution of 2560 x 1440 pixels.

XFX builds two single-slot Radeon HD 5770 cards
Hot on PowerColor's trail, Pine-owned XFX was also developed some single-slot Juniper-powered cards, namely two Radeon HD 5770 cards, one boasting two DVI and one mini DisplayPort outputs (HD-577X-ZMF3), and one with no less than five mini DisplayPorts (HD-577X-Z5F3).

Samsung tablet closing in, could be launched next week
South Korea's Samsung Electronics is set on entering the tablet market this quarter to get a head start over most rivals (Apple not included), a possible date for an official unveiling of the device being Wednesday, August 11th, as that's when the company has scheduled an event in New York.

Zotac preps its own 2GB GeForce GTX 460
Not to be outgunned by rival Palit (via Gainward), Zotac is also working on a GeForce GTX 460 with 2GB of onboard memory, the upcoming card boasting not only more VRAM but also a beefy Arctic cooler that will surely keep the GF104 GPU at low temperature levels.

Koolance offering first GeForce GTX 460 waterblock
Auburn-based Koolance has worked pretty fast and managed to release a waterblock for the reasonably-recent GeForce GTX 460, the first graphics card powered by the GF104 GPU. Dubbed VID-NX460, the block covers everything from the GF104, to the memory and voltage regulators.

United Arab Emirates plan to ban BlackBerry services, say security is the issue
A big blow to Canadian smartphone maker RIM is in the works as authorities in the United Arab Emirates have revealed their intention to block BlackBerry email, messaging and web browsing services due to alleged security problems.

RIM BlackPad reportedly coming in November
The unannounced, unconfirmed but extensively-rumored RIM tablet is said to make its debut faster that previously reported, and become available, at least in North America, this November - in time for the holiday season and before a lot of potential rivals.

New Dell Inspiron Zino model to have quad-core CPU, DX11 graphics options
Thanks to an ups on Dell's part it's been revealed that the US PC maker is preparing to introduce a new compact desktop, the Inspiron 410, which, like the Inspiron Zino HD, will make use of an AMD platform, but will feature updated hardware.

Microsoft patching up Windows shortcut vulnerability today
Later today, at 10 AM PDT (5 PM UTC), Microsoft is set to release an out of band update that will address the Windows Shell bug that enables malicious code to be executed when a user clicks the displayed icon of a specially crafted shortcut.
