Droid 2 Coming Soon From Motorola?

The CEO of Motorola plans to announce two smartphones in July, both of them expected to be Android devices. One is expected to be the Droid Shadow, and the other could be the Droid 2. The Droid has been around for 7 months, and Motorola feels its time for an upgrade. The biggest expected change is the removal of the D-pad. There have been a large amount of complaints about the physical keyboard. The phone will still be the same size, and larger buttons will therefore be available. Additionally, they will be made convex, further adding to the ease of use. Another rumored change is a faster processor as many of the Android phones released since the Droid have had more power behind them.

GeForce GTX 465 TDP to be 200W

Despite the upcoming GeForce GTX 465 having fewer everything compared to the GTX 470 and 480, the TDP of the card will only be 200 watts. This is not all that much less than the 215W TDP of the GTX 470 even with the fewer SMs and lower clock speeds. Now, keep in mind that NVIDIA and ATI record the TDP in different ways. ATI records the maximum TDP of its cards while NVIDIA is the typical power required during intense gaming. So with that, even though the TDP of the GTX 465 and the ATI HD 5850 is a 50W difference, the actual disparity could be a lot more when the GTX 465 is fully loaded. Time will tell during reviews and real world settings on whether the performance of the GTX 465 makes up for the TDP, but hopefully NVIDIA can compete with ATI.

The GeForce GTX 465 is expected to launch on June 2nd with NVIDIA claiming no availability problems.

Gigabyte to Launch New Netbook

Computex hasn't even started yet and already some news is starting to come out from the big companies. Gigabyte today has unveiled its new netbook, the M1125, that supports a screen that can swivel around. The screen will presumably be a touchscreen since those are the norm for this style of netbook. Not a whole lot of specifications were released with it, but the ones that were include a 1366x768 resolution screen, an Intel Calpella chip, USB 3.0, and an optical disc drive. All of this fits into the 11.6 inch form and I have to say it is nice to see a disc drive built in.

More specs, pricing, and availability should be announced during Computex.

New Apple TV Will Take Advantage of the Cloud

Although the specs are currently rumors, the next Apple TV looks like it could change the streaming TV game. The device will be based off the iPhone OS 4.0 instead of a OS-X lite version, and will run on the same hardware as the iPhone. However, it won't have a screen and will be capable of 1080p HD playback. The other significant difference between this and the previous version is that there will be limited to no local storage, similar to the service offered by Amazon. It is also rumored that there will be Time Capsule support to backup to local devices. The device will be extremely small, and will only have a power socket and video output ports. Best of all, the device is said to only cost $99.

Time Warner and NBC Side with Flash

In the battle between Apple and Adobe over Flash, Adobe has just gained some support from media companies Time Warner and NBC Universal. The video content owned by these companies, television shows for example, are all in Flash format. The problem lies in the amount of money that would be required to convert this content from Flash to Flash-free formats. The opposition to Flash comes only from Apple, as it doesn't allow the technology on its mobile devices, citing poor performance of Flash on mobile devices. Not all companies are following this lead, as Disney and CNN have been willing to accommodate the iPad and iPhone requirements.
