44 Million Stolen Gaming Credentials Found Online
Symantec has found an online server hosting 44 million stolen gaming accounts! They include some big names like World of Warcraft and Aion, down to sites that host online games. "The particular database server we uncovered seems very much at the heart of this operation -- part of a distributed password checker aimed at Chinese gaming sites. The stolen login credentials are not just from particular online games, but include user login accounts associated with sites that host a variety of online games," Ward writes. Comments

Windows XP SP2 Retirement a Bane on IT
Microsoft is officially retiring Windows XP SP2 on July 13. After that, patches will only be released for the newer Service Pack 3. That didn't sound so bad until Qualys said that 50% of the several hundred thousand PCs it monitors still run XP SP2. "I would expect that come August, SP2 will be getting hard and harder to defend," said Kandek, referring to the lack of security updates. "I expect to see reliable exploits of unpatched vulnerabilities three or four months later." Comments

40% of iPhones Sold to Businesses
AT&T has revealed that 40% of the iPhones sold so far in 2010 have been to business customers. Should this news scare RIM? I have always perceived the Blackberry as the business phone of choice. Now that Apple has addressed many of IT's concerns when it comes to enterprise support for the iPhone, I think we can expect to see a lot more business users taking advantage of Apple's smartphone. That will come at the expense of other platforms, but I don't think Research In Motion has all that much to worry about. Comments

Amazon Introducing New Kindle In August
Amazon.com is rumored to be releasing a new version of the Kindle e-book reader in August. The device will be thinner and have a more responsive screen with a sharper image. It will not have a colored or touch-screen display. The Kindle uses a black-and-white screen that mimics the appearance of paper. The new version will have sharper contrast that makes e-books look more like real books, the people familiar with the product said. The delay during page turns also will be shortened. Comments

New Version of Apple TV
Rumors are that Apple is preparing to launch a new version of Apple TV. This new version is a lot different than the last, focusing almost entirely on streaming from cloud-based storage. Surprising thing is that it's only $99. The new architecture of the device will be based directly on the iPhone 4, meaning it will get the same internals, down to that A4 CPU and a limited amount of flash storage -- 16GB to be exact -- though it will be capable of full 1080p HD (!). The device is said to be quite small with a scarce amount of ports (only the power socket and video out), and has been described to some as "an iPhone without a screen." Comments

Fan Recreates Final Fantasy Battle Inside StarCraft II
I used to be a pretty big fan of the Use Map Settings games in the original StarCraft, but this is just downright amazing. It really does show how scalable and customizable the new Blizzard engine is. I can't wait to see what kind of mod games and maps users create. Comments

Norton Goes Mobile
Symantec is developing two mobile security apps and a cloud based DNS service. The first, Norton SmartPhone Securty Beta for Android, is scheduled to be available next month and offers some pretty neat features: antimalware protection, call-blocking, and the ability for users to remotely lock or wipe their device via text message in case it gets stolen. There are more than 10 billion non-PC devices that connect to the Internet right now -- and that number is expected to grow to almost 20 billion by 2014, according to IDC. Typically, these devices have little or no security built into them -- nor are users conditioned to think of them as a vector for attacks like those that plague personal computers. Comments
