Packard Bell EasyNote TM embraces AMD VISION
Packard Bell's EasyNote TM 15.6-inch notebook was announced a while back packing Intel's Calpella platform but now it's also been confirmed to come in multiple versions powered by AMD's Danube mobile offering. The AMD-equipped EasyNote TM will boast a 15.6-inch (1366x768) display, up to a quad-core Phenom II processor, a maximum of 640GB in storage space, a DVD or Blu-ray drive, a multi-card reader, a HDMI output, and will include a Social Networks key which enables a quick connection to friends on Facebook, YouTube and Flickr.

Hybrid hard drives are live and kickin'
A few year ago, when the SSD offer was pretty slim, several hard drive manufacturers though of a new breed of storage solutions that would still rely on platters but also integrate more NAND Flash memory - the hybrid hard drive. These were pretty much a failure but Seagate isn't giving up on them. On May 26, the company is expected to announce the Momentus XT line of 2.5-inch hybrid hard drives for use in portable PCs which are supposed to boast, beside spinning platters holding 250GB, 320GB or 500GB of data, 4GB worth of SLC (single-level cell) NAND Flash memory chips. This combo is hoped to provide relatively cheap storage but also low access times, at least for the data stored on those 4GB of NAND.

Memory companies fined 331 million euros for price fixing scheme
The European Commission of the EU has announced fines totaling 331,273,800 Euro or about $407.19 million for memory manufacturers Samsung, Hynix, Infineon, NEC, Hitachi, Mitsubishi, Toshiba, Elpida and Nanya, for their participation in a DRAM price fixing cartel. Micron is the tenth company found guilty of involvement but, because it was the one that came forward to expose the carter, it was granted full immunity from fines.

ASUS readies EeePC with Nvidia Optimus and USB 3.0
ASUS has been showing off a netbook with a chip that was designed to work in a desktop PC: the upcoming ASUS Eee PC 1215N is a notebook with an Atom D510 dual core processor. The ASUS Eee PC 1215N also has second generation NVIDIA ION graphics for handling 1080p HD video playback and some 3D graphics performance, and there is also a 12.1 inch, 1366 x 768 pixel HD display, HDMI and VGA output, 3 USB 3.0 ports, and a flash card connection. It will also be one of the first to feature NVidia’s Optimus technology.
