Microsoft releases Windows Home Server V2 beta
Microsoft's Windows Home Server has always had plenty going for it, but almost three years after its first release and three Power Packs later, it remains a relatively niche product. Hoping to expand its appeal, the software giant has been quietly working on a second-generation release, codenamed Vail, and has this week surprised users by announcing a public beta release. Windows Home Server V2, available as a beta from Microsoft Connect, provides users with the first up-close look at Microsoft's future vision of a centrally-connected home environment.

Core i7 680UM to be released in Q4
In Q3 2010 Intel plans to start shipping Core i7 660UM clocked at 1.33GHz and capable of 2.4GHz on Turbo. One quarter later, the company plans to ship yet another faster version. The name is Core i7 680 UM and this new CPU is an ultra low voltage core with 1.46GHz clock and 2.53GHz clock with Turbo auto-overclocking feature enabled.

Panasonic 3D BD Players to be DivX Plus HD-compatible
Panasonic announced yesterday that its 2010 lineup of 3D Blu-Ray players will be capable of DivX Plus HD video playback in MKV file container with HD resolution up to 1080p. The first model in the line with such capability will be the DMP-BDT300, Panasonic’s first Full HD 3D Blu-ray player. It is planned to be launched first in Europe by the end of this week and soon after in Russia and Oceania.

HP to buy Palm for 1.2 billion dollars
Despite those rumors about Lenovo preparing to buy Palm, the reality seems to look different with the giant computer manufacturer HP agreeded to purchase the struggling smartphone maker Palm today for $1.2 billion in cash, including assuming Palm's debt. Palm put itself up for sale in the last two months after it became clear that the company's phones were not selling and it only had enough cash to last the next 12 months. Palm was entertaining offers from HTC, Lenovo, RIM and others, but HP was never really listed as a likely candidate.
