Elan complains to the ITC about Apple patent violations
Taiwan-based Elan Microelectronics has yesterday filed a complaint with the US ITC (International Trade Commission) in regards to Apple's alleged infringement of its multi-touch and touch device-related patents. According to Elan, Apple's infringing devices are the MacBook, iPhone, iPod touch, the Magic Mouse and even the almost-released iPad.
"We have taken the step of filing the ITC complaint as a continuation of our efforts to enforce our patent rights against Apple's ongoing infringement," stated Elan. "A proceeding in the ITC offers a quick and effective way for Elan to enforce its patent."
Elan sued Apple over the same patents in a San Francisco court last year so the ITC filing is aimed at increasing the pressure on the Cupertino company. As expected, Elan is asking the ITC for a US import ban and a sales ban on all Apple products that violate the touch-focused patents. The ITC will respond about whether or not it will start an investigation on this matter within 30 days.
