Thermalright making its VGA coolers GF100-compatible
Taiwanese company Thermalright has revealed that it is currently working away on new mounting brackets to make its VGA coolers compatible with the recently unveiled and soon-to-be released GeForce GTX 480 and GTX 470 cards.

The coolers which will get GF100 support are the Spitfire, HR-03 GTX and HR-03 GT so those who'll buy a GeForce GTX 400 series card will have quite a few options as to aftermaket cooling. Thermaltake has now given a release date for the Fermi-compatible hardware but said it will be 'coming soon' which hopefully means by the end of this month.

XFX to gun its competition with 4GB Radeon HD 5970 Black Edition card
XFX is a company who knows how to get attention so it's almost no real surprise that it decided to ship its upcoming Radeon HD 5970 4GB Eyefinity 6 Black Edition card in a box shaped like a sub-machine gun. Yes, sub-machine gun, what could go wrong there. Seen below in a few nice renders, the gun-packing (dual-Cypress card, which made its first appearance at CeBIT (without the piece), will be a limited edition item that's going to sell for $1,000.

There's no info regarding final clocks but the 1,000 to 1,500 HD 5970 4GB Eyefinity 6 Black Edition models will be gunning for performance crown so it should at least have its GPUs @ 850 MHz and its GDDR5 memory @ 4800 MHz. Retail dates for XFX's card are MIA too. For now.

Windows Home Server popular with Small Businesses
Windows Home Server is finding a bit of a niche market with Small Businesses this year according to a RunAs Radio report on how the WHS devices make idea file servers, backup servers and remote access devices for the office, which can all be used without large, expensive full business servers.

Kevin Royalty of RunAs Radio is a small business I.T. consultant, and last week he talked to listeners about how the WHS can be installed at a workplace. He talked about how he has recently installed a few MediaSmart and DataVault servers in customer's premises as a dedicated backup device.

Richard and Greg talk to Kevin Royalty about Home Server. Intended for the home, Microsoft’s Home Server works great for small businesses with ten or less workstations, providing shared file services, an awesome backup solution and even remote access! Home Server offers a starting point before Small Business Server, but even after you’ve moved to SBS, you’ll want to keep using Home Server for backup.

If you’re a small business owner thinking about buying a home server, make sure you check out their show here for more information!

Google updates search for Gbit/s fibre town candidate
Google has updated the world on the plans for their private high speed fibre broadband network, and said that they will be announcing the final targeted market for the first tests of the network before the end of the year.

The project that was announced back in February is set to bring 1Gbit/s fibre networks into target markets, as a way of testing out open broadband networks.

Since the announcement of the project the interest has been incredibly high, and Google has said that more than 600 communities have expressed interest in the project and over 190,000 individuals have signed up.

Cities such as Topeka, Kansas and Rancho Cucamonga, California have jokingly pledged to change their names, to "Google, Kansas", and "Rancho Googlemonga", should the company choose them.

Google said that they will now be visiting prospective sites so that they can make a final decision later this year.

"This enthusiasm is much bigger than Google and our experimental network," wrote Google product manager James Kelly in a blog posting. "If one message has come through loud and clear, it's this: people across the country are hungry for better and faster internet access."

New iPad pre-order to ship from April 12th
It appears as though some unlucky iPad buyers in the United States will have to wait a little longer than they originally bargained for, as the company appears to struggle with demand.

Pre-orders for the new Apple touchy-feely tablet began on March 12th, and consumers were promised that devices would ship to their doors arriving on April 3rd - on the same day that they hit retail store shelves. However, it appears as though the company may have sold out of their initial inventory, as the date on the company's online store has changed, now promising delivery of the device by the 12th of next month.

This new April 12th shipping date now indicates a particularly strong demand for the device, but there has also been reports from various analysts that the company has struggled getting additional production rolling with issues going way back into the supply chain. Either way, what can be confirmed is that several hundred thousand devices have already been pre-ordered.

For those that haven't pre-ordered, the device $499 for the basic Wi-Fi model.

Before we incite any mass panic - an Apple spokesperson has already confirmed that "Customers who placed their orders earlier this month will still get their devices by April 3."

Microsoft to release 64GB Zune HD?
Assuming that no gremlins are toying around Microsoft's servers then the Redmond company just slipped out the fact that it is preparing a Zune HD with 64GB model to complement its existing line-up which includes 16GB and 32GB players. The leak can be seen on Zune.net where there's a 'ZUNE HD 64' link that leads to an error page.

The Zune HD was introduced in September (2009) and it features a Nvidia Tegra SoC (system-on-a-chip), a 3.3-inch (480x272) OLED screen,, a built-in FM radio receiver, 802.11b/g WiFi, and support for MP3, WMA, WMA Lossles, JPEG, WMV, MPEG-4, and H.264 file formats. The 32GB Zune HD can be found new @ $238.54 so the 64GB version would cost over $300.
